Swansea Community Farm - the only city farm in Wales, run by the community for the community.

As the only city farm in Wales we help to reconnect people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities with their food, their environment and each other through a unique and exciting range of educational, volunteering, training and play opportunities. Our 3.5 acre fully accessible site demonstrates a range of sustainability and nature conservation management techniques as well as hosting a range of rare and rare-Welsh breed farm animals.

✨ Exciting Awards News! ✨

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that our incredible young volunteers have been shortlisted as finalists in the Environment Champion category for the St David Awards 2025 – such an honour given by the Welsh Government to those making a real difference! 🌍🏆

A few of our young people, along with staff members, travelled to Cardiff for the official finalist announcement, which took place at Welsh Parliament and was presented by First Minister Eluned Morgan AS/MS. It was an inspiring evening celebrating the achievements of individuals and groups across Wales who are making a real impact.

We are so proud of our young volunteers for their dedication and hard work in protecting our environment, and we can't wait for the awards ceremony on March 27th at the Senedd.

🔧 Repair Cafe and Seed Swap – Saturday 1st March. 🔧

Got something broken? Don’t throw it away – bring it to our FREE Repair Cafe! Join us on Saturday 1st March, 10:30am – 1:00pm for a few hours of fixing. Our volunteers can help with household items, clothing and jewellery repair, computer equipment. Plus, we have a pop-up recycling point to help dispose of any items responsibly.

Seeds to Swap? Spring is coming so if you’re looking to grow something new this season, bring along your seeds to swap and take home something fresh for your garden.

The cafe will be open for light refreshments so you can relax with a cuppa while you wait.

🌿 Huge Thanks for a Fantastic AGM! 🌿

A massive thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday for our Annual General Meeting! It was a wonderful day, and we loved hearing from our trustees, staff, and volunteers about the amazing projects happening at the farm and what’s coming next.

A special shoutout to our incredible volunteers who bravely stood up to share how the farm has positively impacted them—it’s not easy speaking in front of a room full of people, and we truly appreciate it! 💚

💬 "My mental health had been poor all the way through my life. Coming to the farm has ignited my interest in life, being a part of other people’s lives. Coming here, I feel like I have purpose, I have meaning. I can have feelings here safely and not worry about who I talk to. It is a safe place to share and be listened to. I experience strength and hope.”

💬 "My confidence and mental health had gone down. I was feeling a little bit lost and lonely. I emailed in and it was the best email I sent. I’ve never felt so welcomed and appreciated at a job. I genuinely now feel a part of something, and I have a purpose. My confidence has started coming back. I go out more now and I’ve started to think about going back to university. I love it here and I really appreciate what the farm has done for me."

✨ Make a Difference Monday – Pay It Forward! ✨

Today is Random Acts of Kindness Day, and you can celebrate by supporting our Pay It Forward scheme at Swansea Community Farm Café! ☕💛 For just £3.50, you can buy a lunch voucher for one of our incredible volunteers—who work tirelessly to keep our community thriving. This small act of kindness makes a big impact!

Our café is now open to the public on Thursdays & Saturdays 🎉—providing hot meals, snacks, and vital food training. Since October, we’ve served:
🍽 210+ adult volunteer meals
👦 150+ child & youth meals
🎄 45 Christmas dinners

What our volunteers and community says:
🗣 "It's the only time in the week where I eat a proper meal."
🗣 "I don’t get the opportunity to learn to cook in school because not enough people were interested. If I didn’t come to the Farm, I wouldn’t get to learn to cook."

🌟 Make a Difference Monday 🌟

February is Boost Your Self-Esteem Month—a time to focus on confidence, personal growth, and believing in yourself. 💪 At the farm, we see firsthand how learning new skills can transform self-doubt into self-belief. Recently, volunteer Anthony stepped out of his comfort zone and took on a new challenge: operating a digger for the first time during our Green Skills training week. Anthony has been attending the farm as a volunteer for a few years now and credits the farm for building his confidence to take on a new challenge.

"I felt really good and proud of myself for giving it a go. Two years ago, I wouldn’t have had the confidence to try something like that—I would have been too scared of making a mistake. I did make a mistake, but I’m not even beating myself up for it. In fact, we all had a good laugh about it!"

This is what the farm is all about—learning, growing, and finding the courage to try new things (and laughing our way through them). The skills and confidence gained here can open doors to new opportunities, whether it’s getting back into work, tackling new challenges, or simply believing in yourself again. Every small step counts. 💪

This Children’s Mental Health Week, we’re reflecting on the importance of time spent outdoors and how it supports young people’s wellbeing. At the farm, we see first-hand how fresh air, hands-on activities, and being part of a community help children and young people grow in confidence, resilience, and happiness.

Last weekend our Child & Youth Farm Clwb volunteers, were lucky enough to enjoy a brilliant bushcraft session thanks to the awesome Dryad Bushcraft CIC🔥🌱 From fire lighting to nature skills, the session was full of adventure, teamwork, and discovery. Sessions like these are so important for mental health. They encourage mindfulness and focus, builds confidence through hands-on skills and provides a break from screens and everyday pressures.

We love seeing how activities like these boost young people’s mental wellbeing—and it’s why our Farm Clwb is so special. ❤️

🗣️ It's Time to Talk Day! 🗣️

Talking about mental health isn’t always easy, but having a space to connect with others can make a huge difference. That’s where farm volunteering comes in.🌱🐑

According to a study from mentalhealth.org.uk - ‘Men are less likely to access psychological therapies than women; only 36% of referrals to NHS talking therapies are for men’. Despite men being statistically less likely to volunteer, Farm volunteering appeals to them, with over 60% of our core volunteers being male.

One volunteer, who struggles with depression, says, ‘it’s something for me to look forward to throughout the week’, while another elderly volunteer who lives on his own, says, ‘keeps your brain active and I find that I am not as lonely.’ A young man with ASD says, ‘if I wasn’t working at the Farm I would be staying at home, probably feeling really lonely’.

We see every day just how important these moments of connection are. Chatting whilst mucking out the animal house, or sitting down for a cup of tea and some lunch after a morning’s work might seem small, but for many, it’s a lifeline. A chance to talk, listen, and just be together. 💚

We’ve been having an incredible time running our free cookery workshops, meeting so many wonderful people, and sharing delicious homemade meals. It's been a joy to see everyone learning, laughing, and enjoying some home cooking together!

🌟 Make a Difference Monday 🌟

Today, we’re celebrating Bec and her two sons, Ajay and Rio – local Penderi residents who are part of the heart and soul of Swansea Community Farm. For over 14 years, Bec has been visiting the farm – first with her eldest, now 13, and today with her younger children, aged 2 and 4. They pop in at least twice a week to see the animals and enjoy the free outdoor play. This safe haven has been a lifeline for her family, offering a space to play, learn, and feel supported.

“If it weren’t for this place, I don’t think we could have survived. When I was unemployed due to not being able to pay for childcare and having two children close together, I benefitted from the food share here because there were some weeks I couldn’t even afford food. The staff here go out of their way to help. It’s not just a farm; it’s a community. Without this place, we’d be at a loss. And I think if everybody stuck together like a community more, just think what our world would change to."

The Farm's Community Pantry is a great asset for our volunteers and local residents, working on the premise that you 'take what you need - give what you can'. Since Bec and her family are now back on their feet, they go out of their way to make donations when they can.

Bec passionately encourages others to visit and support the farm, comparing it to big-name attractions miles away: “People spend hundreds to visit places like Folly Farm, but this amazing place is right here on your doorstep. Giving to a charity like this means so much more.”

🎉 Celebrating 5 Years of Cerys! 🎉

Today marks five fabulous years since our Youth & Community Manager, Cerys, joined the farm – and what a journey it’s been! From day one, Cerys has brought boundless energy, infectious enthusiasm, and a huge heart to everything she does.

Her dedication was rightly recognised last year with a Special Recognition Award at the Early Years and Play Celebration Awards, and of course we celebrated with cake today 😋

Wassail! What an incredible day we had at the farm last weekend for our Penderi Wassail Day! 🎉

Thank you to everyone who came along and walked in the Mari Lwyd procession, banged pots and pans, and joined in the fun to help us bless the orchard and ‘toast’ the trees for a bountiful apple harvest 🍎🌳. From storytelling to fireside activities, arts and crafts to our café, the atmosphere was filled with a real sense of community.

These events aren’t just about tradition (although we love that part too 🐴✨); they’re about bringing people together—connecting with nature, history, and each other. A huge shoutout to our amazing young volunteers who ran the show, gained invaluable experience, and nailed their mini-enterprise projects.

Wassail Day felt like a slice of magic and a celebration of everything we hold dear: heritage, community, and a good dose of outdoor fun. Here’s to starting what we hope becomes a beautiful local tradition.

We’re sending the biggest thank you to CT Lewis Ltd, who came out this morning and moved our storage pod for us – completely free of charge! 🙌 Diolch!

A big thank you also goes to our awesome volunteers and staff, who worked together to empty the pod in record time before it was moved and now face the task of reorganising everything.😅💪

Our clever girl Siany has given birth to two beautiful kids this morning at 7:30am. Mum and babies are doing well and resting. We can’t wait for kid cuddles soon. Well done Siany ❤️🐐

We’d like to say a big thank you to Mumbles Brewery Ltd for their fantastic donation of spent grains. Spent grains are a free, brewery waste product and are an amazing source of food for our pigs, goats, donkeys and chickens. With animal food prices pretty much doubling (and not set to drop any time soon), this is a huge win for us as a charity! Diolch ❤️
