Static eye contact
My border collie puppy, Oshi, had a photoshoot with the fantastic Mucky Pup Photography last Sunday. Sarah gave us some homework š. Iām working on a noise that will give me eye contact without Oshi moving towards me. In this video Iāve upped my criteria from 2 seconds eye contact, which weād already practiced, to 3 seconds which she struggled with a tiny bit. Sheās also getting used to her brand new āignore meā jacket.
Strat Onna String
This is my border collie puppy, Oshi, playing the sprat onna string game in the front garden. Tie a sprat to a shoe lace and take the sprat for a walk in the garden. Leave some sprats st the end of the trail. Let you dog sniff the sprats out. Purposeful sniffing (where the dog is looking for something with their nose) raises the dogās respiratory rate from approximately 30 bpm to approximately 180 bmp! Dogs use about 40% of their brain when sniffing. Scentwork is both mentally a physically tiring. It also releases dopamine, the neurotransmitter thatās associated with reward and motivation. Weāre looking forward to our next Mantrailing session with Afan Adventure Dog š

Osianās doing some CPD with me š.
Rocket recall
Osianās first trip to Singleton Park today. We practiced recall and met lots of people and dogs. Her confidence is great with people now and frowning with dogs.
Bonfire night
Osian is 14 weeks old. There are a few fireworks going off, not much at the moment, but thereās a big display in an hour. I have a Kong and a lickimat prepared. Sheās has sounds played from an early age in order with the desensitisation process, and Iāll continue to do that randomly. Doing things right from a really early age, in Osianās case from about a week old thanks to Lowena Diment š, makes a massive difference to how much easier to raise a pup, particularly a sheepdog!
I was trying to clean the sofas and Osian wanted to help, so I thought Iād try a bit of boundary training trainingā¦ weāll see š

Boundary work
Osian, an 11 week pup, staying on her boundary whilst there were many distractions. Celyn, Marshall and Hugo all playing ball.
Scatter feeding
Celyn is learning to tolerate the pup and Osian is learning to respect the older dog, Celyn. Sniffing promotes serotonin, which promotes calm.
Puppy play area
