Time to introduce our final Student Veterinary Nurse....Meet Celyn!🐾

"I started working at Animal Doctors in April 2022. I have wanted to be a Veterinary Nurse since I first went to Folly Farm when I was 5 years old. In college, I studied level 3 Animal Management and started working at Animal Doctors near the end of my second year of studies. I am now studying Veterinary Nursing and I started those studies in August 2023, and I hope to qualify in 2025. When I qualify I would like to look more into surgeries and the process of these, such as stitch ups as I am interested in these currently. I am also interested in complementary therapies such as physiotherapy & hydrotherapy."🩷

Now it's time to introduce our Student Veterinary Nurses! 🐾

First up...meet Naomi!

"I Started at Animal Doctors at the beginning of April 2022. I have wanted to be a Veterinary Nurse since I was 6 years old, that is when my parents bought me a plastic stethoscope and a massive bag full of teddies. I am currently studying Veterinary Nursing in college whilst still working at Animal Doctors, and I hope to qualify by the end of 2025. It has always been my goal to give those a voice who cannot speak for themselves and working in this industry is giving me the achievement of doing that."🩷

Next up....introducing Gabby, our registered Veterinary Nurse! 🐾

"I'm Gabby, one of the Veterinary Nurses at Animal Doctors. I always knew I wanted to work with animals but knew I didn't want to do surgeries like a Vet, so that's when I looked into Veterinary Nursing.
I went straight from sixth form to study a degree in Veterinary Nursing at the Royal Veterinary College in London. 3 years later I finished my degree and qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2019. I started working in Animal Doctors in 2023.
My Favourite aspect of the job is taking blood samples and running lab work to find out what is wrong with our patients." 🩷

Introducing our Head Nurse Anna!🐾

"I grew up on a small holding where I was privileged to experience taking care of many different animals from chickens, turkeys, pigs, goats, sheep and cows to cats, dogs and horses. I had hands on experience hand rearing calves and lambs which cemented my passion for animals.
Alongside having a pet chicken as a child; who was attacked by a fox and lost her leg so I named her Pegleg, we also had many pet cats and dogs and horses over the years.
I have never wanted to pursue any other career path. My career in the veterinary world started in 1993 where I began working as an auxiliary nurse in Llanelli for 4 years prior to studying vet nursing in Langford, University of Bristol where I then qualified as an RVN in 1998. I started working at Animal Doctors in 2017 as a nurse.
I don't have any specific interests but I do enjoy the consulting aspect of the job where I get to bond with our lovely clients and their dearly loved pets"

It's Veterinary Nurse Month! 🐾

This month we will be speaking all about our wonderful Veterinary Nurses that work within our team to give you an opportunity to see all the amazing work they do and get to know them a little better.

Veterinary nurses do so much for our little furry friends so here's a little insight on what they do:

The duties of a Veterinary Nurse you see could be admitting and discharging your pet, reception duties, appointments such as nail clips, weight checks, puppy/kitten health checks and post- operative checks.
What you may not see is the care they provide for your pets when they are with us.
This varies from taking blood samples and running them to identify any concerns with your pets health. They can dispense, calculate doses and administer medication.
Position patients for X-rays, calculate settings and process x-rays to get diagnostic imaging.
A nurse is responsible for monitoring a patients anaesthetic, ensuring they have the correct gas flow, induction dose, meanwhile monitoring the patients vitals.
They care for them after surgeries, wound management, pain management and general TLC.
These are just a few of a Veterinary Nurses responsibility when it comes to your pet, their patient.
