What is Friday Training Club....and is it right for you and your dog?

🐶 Friday training club is a small (no more than 6) mixed age dog training class.

🐶 Each week we focus on one or two key topics, this could be loose lead walking, recalls, leave exercises, doggy parkour, dog yoga, focus work, groups walks etc. We start with basic exercises then build from here once each dog is ready.

🐶 It offers flexibility as it doesn't run as a course. You can come to multiple in the month or just one that takes your fancy.

🐶 The idea is to build a social group away from class where people may choose to meet up and share experiences in their own time too.

🐶 Designed to be different from the normal run of the mill training class being more flexible and allowing socialisation for dogs that are a range of different ages.

✨️Please check out some of my recent reviews to see if Canine Gems could be right for you ✨️

Group walking is a great way for dogs to bond and get to know each other without lots of face to face contact which can be confrontational.

It's also nice to speak to other owners and realise that other people are often going through the same issues as what you are!!

Our next group walk will take place on Friday 7th March at 945am.

Please pop me a message or comment below if you are interested in joining us ❤️

This is very interesting, and part of the reason a few years back there was a whole range of dogs toys that were blue and yellow.

I did a really interesting study on this when I was studying at university, dogs definitely see blue to yellow spectrum of colours best 💙💛

Dog senses: Eyesight

'Is it true that dogs see in black and white?'

I recently had a one to one where the owner asked me this question.

I find the dog’s senses SOOOO fascinating as they are so different to ours!

The quick answer the question ‘do dogs see in black and white’ is - no.

Dog’s DO see colour, but the spectrum of colours is very different to ours.

Take a look at this picture which was taken from an article written by Beth Finke in 2012 (the full article can be found here https://www.thewildest.com/dog.../what-colors-do-dogs-see )

As you can see, compared to the human spectrum, dogs are limited to only seeing shades of blue, yellow and grey.

Have you ever wondered why your dog can’t find the green tennis ball in the green grass? This is likely the reason!

How do we know that dogs only see these colours compared to humans?

The answer to this lies in the photo receptors in our eyes.

There are two main photo receptors in the retina – the rods and the cones.

Rods are responsible for seeing in low light, and cones are responsible for seeing different colours.

There are three main types of cones which humans interpret colour – these cones filter blue, red and green light.

Your dog will only have two of these three cones, making up the spectrum above.

Dogs however have evolved to be able to see much better in the dark than humans, thanks to their higher number of rods in the retina than humans.

Fascinating stuff!

I need you help please!!!!

I have lots of people giving me great reviews to my face....but very few recent ones on my page.

Seeing reviews enables new clients to see how I work and choose if they wish to work with me or not. It's a HUGE part of my business.

If you've had a good experience with Canine Gems, and haven't put a review on the page, please please when you get 5 minutes free can I ask you to do so? It would mean the world to me ❤️❤️❤️

To do so, you can scroll down from the hope page to the 'details' section. Here you can see all of my reviews and leave a new one if you haven't already ❤️❤️

Thanks in advance and have a lovely Sunday 🌞

✨️P U P P Y P R I M A R Y W E E K 2✨️

These gorgeous little puppies continued their fantastic work during week 1 onto week 2 this week ❤️

We worked on loose lead walking, leave exercises, self control as well as continuing learning how to 'lure' behaviours. There were some very tired puppy eyes by the end of class this week 🤣🤣

It really was beautiful weather for training today, which is always a bonus 🌞 ☀️

I just had to share these fantastic videos with you from my 121 session today!!!!

I had the most amazing session with beautiful Ava and her owner today. I've been working with Ava for some time, she definitely likes the sound of her own voice 🤣 but can also be very anxious in some situations. Back when I met her, every dog, person, pram and jogger would have caused her to bark.....ALOT!!!

While this is still a work in progress as she is still quite loud on her normal daily walks, I was so impressed with her behaviour out on our walk today. And she has shown us what she is capable of!!! She absolutely SMASHED it, I am so so proud of her. We pretty much encountered everything on our walk, ducks, children, joggers, dogs, prams and people out on their daily walks.

Plus....this meant a much more enjoyable walk in the sunshine 🌞 ❤️❤️
