It’s been a while since I posted. Although we’ve still been running we have started Agility and been on some longer walks. The Agility is fun and Hudson gets so excited. Sometimes it’s like sensory overload

Last weekend we went to a Border Collie Socialiastion session. This was so interesting. To see 6 collies all in the same space inteactimg in the same way was uncanny. There were times when we couldn’t tell which was which!

So Hudson and I ran in the CaniX event at Mayhill woods on Sunday morning. Bit of a learning curve for me, there were no toilets!

Quite a technical course and I have discovered I am no use going downhill, I definitely held Hudson back. Need a bit of practice I think. But we enjoyed it and came 4th again.

Spent a glorious week in the Brecon Beacons last week, who knew the weather could be so good in March? We didn't do any running as we were walking for most of each day. We clocked up 80KM of walking in 4 days. Hudson coped really well with the long walks mostly uphill! The scenery was stunning and it was wonderful to spend so much time in the outdoors.

Had a lovely run out up on the ridgeway yesterday with North Wiltshire Canicross , 12 1/2 km. I'm suffering today though! Hudson is showing no ill effects of our longer run.

It was extremely muddy and I think I ended up more muddy than Hudson after slipping and taking a tumble. No bones broken. this photo was after I had cleaned a lot of the mud off and changed shoes!!

We are currently using an Inlandsis Polar Quest X Back harness, it is extremely light and Hudson seems to prefer it to the others we have, it definitely suits his running.

Took part in our first event today. Thank you Canix.co.uk for a great run at Westonbirt. Hudson was a star, it was so noisy at the start and he was very well behaved.

Feeling much more confident that Hudson can cope with the noise and that many dogs now. It is definitely a learning curve for us both.

Met this beautiful boy Ralph this afternoon for a 1-2-1. Working on commands and how to stop. He’s full of energy and just wants to keep going! Thank you Laura Brooks for bringing him. 🤩

Had a lovely run with Noth Wiltshire Canicross Club yesterday. The weather was stunning. Hudson had a bit of a sunbathe outside when we got home! Had quite a bit of practice on Keep left and Keep right. I’m a firm believer in the more practice you do the more embedded it becomes. I practice these commands when we go out on every walk and every run.

Had a harness fitting with the very lovely Nora the Patterdale Terrier X. Thank you for bringing her Zoe Jeffers. Pictures to follow, She's such a tiny little thing its important that we find the correct harness for her to run in.

Then off out with Hudson onto the fields I can safely say that this was one of our muddiest runs to date! But the weather was beautiful.

Had a lovely run with Hudson this morning, it was lovely to be back out there after a couple of busy weeks and the dreadful weather. Lots of trees and branches to navigate but we managed.

Throw back to a few weeks ago when the weather was cold and beautiful. Hudson and I haven't run together for a few days as I've been away and the weather is a bit rubbish. But a rest is good and as he's still quite young I want to make sure his joints are protected for the future so we have many years of running to look forward to.
I am also conscious that I don't create a very fit dog who needs to run every single day because then MY joints won't last! 🙄

Back at Waterhay for a quick 6k this morning. Not as muddy as Sunday! I’m trying to get Hudson to not stop so often to stuff and see!🤔. I took him out earlier for a short walk to see if that helped and I think it did to an extent but he still loves to stop and sniff!! That’s what I love about Canicross though there is no pressure you are just out running and enjoying being with your dog in the outdoors!!

Had a great run with North Wiltshire Canicross this morning. Very muddy 10k but was worth braving the elements! Used the nonstop line harness again. It’s so easy to wash afterwards too.

Trying out a second harness today, the Non Stop Line Harness. I really liked this one, very light and comfortable for Hudson, it fits him really well and is so versatile it can be used to Canicross, walking, hiking, and all doggy adventures. Comes in a wide range of colours as well. We went for the Orange!

It was an extremely muddy run on the fields today!

Today we had a quieter day, no running but we did venture out for some training and some fun. It was a beautiful day on Tadpole Green. We worked on Wait, Come, Stop. Very important commands for all dogs. I use the command 'Wait" as Hudson responds to it better than "Stay". It was useful on our run on Sunday as we were moving/climbing over walls and stiles and ensuring he could wait on one side and not pull me off the wall was quite essential.

So we ventured out this morning to try out our new Drangrattan Multi Sport harness. All positive, Hudson responded well in it and it stays in place nicely due to the underneath adjustable strap. Definitely a good option when considering a new harness for versatility.

Hudson and I are trying out a new Harness tomorrow, it is really important that the harness you use fits your dog correctly. Not sure where to start come to us for a fitting, we have harnesses for you to try and if we can't find one we will measure your dog and give you your bespoke measurements so that Sportypaws.co.uk can find you the very best fit for your dog.

We will give you the verdict on this harness tomorrow, sometimes you can't tell until you are outside and running.

Canicross Couch to 5K programme.

Our Canicross Couch To 5K programme will coach you through an 8 week training plan to take you and your dog from Canicross beginner through to running a consistent 30 minute jog together upon completion.

Building up your Canicross running together safely is crucial in injury prevention to both you and your dog as well as creating strong foundation training to set you up for a successful Canicross future together.
Your Canicross Couch to 5K includes:
- 1 x in-person Canicross coaching session per week
- 1 x homework task per week to hit your weekly goals
- Our 8 week training plan hand-out
- Certificate upon successful completion
Participants must be in full Canicross kit to participate in our Canicross Couch To 5K programme for safety. You're welcome to either bring your own Canicross kit or loan kit from our kit bag for the session.
Please note: Dogs must be fully grown to participate in Canicross due to it being a high impact sport. This is to avoid damage to the dogs bones, joints and growth plates whilst they are still growing. This is typically around the age of 1 year to 18 months depending on breed size. If you are unsure, please get in touch with us prior to booking to discuss this further.
