Today we had a wonderful surprise!
We were having a lovely coffee in The Kingsdown when I received a message telling me that Nathalie and Lua, Tipie's breeders (Elevage du Clos de la Luette) who are usually in La Rochelle were on their way to see us and were only an hour away! What a lovely afternoon we had!! Tipie was thrilled!!

At 10.55am today it will be 9 long, long, months......and thanks to some amazing, awesome friends I’m still here.
They have text in the wee small hours knowing I would be awake, fed me when they suspected I’m not eating, phoned ‘just for a chat’ on the horrible Sunday lonely nights. They have cleared a full to the brim garage and organised two Yard Sales and cleared wardrobes so that I didn’t break down trying to do it alone. They have supported every weird and wonderful decision I’ve made including the drastic sell up and retire - which the jury is still out on!!
My parents always thought I would be an actress and now I know why – the last 9 months have been one long performance in public, one big painted on smile - while those friends in private know better and they see the smile slip so often. They have sat with me for hours over a coffee in various pubs when I’m sure they would rather be doing something else.....nothing has brought John back, God knows I’ve tried – but I’m still here, still acting, still so so grateful to everyone ###x

Special Puppy Starter Class 🐶

Puppy Starter Lesson!

This will include plenty of opportunity for owners to ask all those burning questions that having a new puppy makes you ask

Your puppy (and you) will be able to meet other puppies and amongst other things will learn the right way to say hello and socialise, as well as the best way to teach recall and walking nicely once they’re ready to go out and about. We’ll have a chat over coffee so that you have plenty of opportunity to ask the urgent questions (house training, biting and mouthing to name just two)

June the 22nd at 9.30 lasting for 60 – 90 minutes

Oh my goodness what a day!! Today was the last day of my retirement week and the last day of the Puppy Skool as we know it. We had wonderful end of course classes today finishing with a party combining the Advanced and Agility classes which was a lot of fun when like the dogs, I was also presented with certificates and rosettes! What I didn’t know was that my wonderful Team with one young lady in particular, Chrissie, had masterminded such a surprise that I now know what gobsmacked really means! She had contacted so many of my students over the years and on a signal from the team they walked so quietly, stretching right along Pond Street with my children and grandchildren and into the Skool smiling and waving and lots of tail wagging – so amazing! So many dogs of all ages who have attended Skool over the last 18 years, even 16½ Skye and 13 year old Clay came to see us! I’m still smiling and re-living this afternoon – thank you Chrissie and the rest of your secret squirrels and thank you to everyone who came today – wasn’t it fun!!

Here we are starting the final week of Janet’s Puppy Skool as we know it. I retire after classes on Saturday and can’t help feeling very sad even a little bit lost and hope very much that I’m doing the right thing.......

When I wondered if there might be new challenges and a new lifestyle for me without John, I’m not sure I really believed or imagined there was, even when I started the ball rolling by putting my house up for sale. I think I was going through the motions as if it was for someone else.

During the 18 years of JPS so many fantastic people and fabulous dogs have been here, and I’ve made so very many friends, some of whom have and in fact are helping me through this odd period and I know we’ll stay friends for the rest of our lives. We have also seen lots and lots of friendships made at classes, met quite a few human babies during the time their Mum’s were here, in fact once we nearly had to be midwives ourselves and have even seen romances blossom from meeting at Skool.
I’ve welcomed children who came to classes with their first puppy who have come back with their own dog as adults and watched so many children grow up as their parents brought the different family puppies to class over all those years.

I would have discussed the decision to retire with John of course who as usual would have given me lots of wise advice – he was the mastermind who pushed me to start my business in the first place, always believing I could make it a success – but this decision I’ve had to make on my own, helped by Mack, Maude, Lark and Tipie who have listened intently and to say it’s a scary time is a huge understatement.
People are viewing the house and the Puppy Skool equipment is starting to be sold - everything is moving so fast.

I’m going to try and enjoy this week of celebration and special classes and will just take a day at a time from next week in my 'retirement'.
I am very very grateful that after all these years my life is so much richer from knowing you all – thank you 😘😘😘😘

PS – I will post soon with some lovely 121 and small workshop training opportunities while I am still in the Farmhouse ..... and beyond!

If you are likely to need a new harness in the next few months or would like your dog to be measured for a first one please do get in touch ASAP.
