Can rabbits see in the dark? 🤔

Rabbits are not nocturnal animals, so their vision isn't adapted for seeing in the dark. 🐇

Unlike other animals like cats and dogs, they lack a tapetum lucidum in their eyes. This layer of tissue is usually right behind the retina, and works as a retroreflector, enhancing visual sensitivity at low light levels.

In complete darkness, rabbits have to depend on their other senses, using their hearing and sense of smell to navigate what they cannot see.

Cold and damp days are not the best conditions for joint pain, and this has a huge impact on for senior dogs with a lifetime of wear and tear! ❄️🐶

Chronic health conditions such as osteoarthritis are more common with age, and you might notice your golden oldie has a lot more stiffness in their movements these days, especially as they get out of bed in the morning or are out for walks.

Here are some ways to help:

🦴 Avoid going on long walks or engaging in rough playtime, as it might put undue strain on their joints and muscles.

🦴 Improve their resting time by ensuring their bed is as comfortable as possible and away from cold drafts.

🦴 If you notice your furry friend is struggling, don’t hesitate to contact us, as there’s a lot we can do to ensure your golden oldie is pain free.

Did you know that January is Walk Your Dog Month? 🐾🐕

Exercise is a vital component of our dogs’ happy lives, and going for frequent walks is one of the best ways to ensure your furry friend has all the physical and mental stimulation they need!

Here are some top tips for the best walks of the season:

❄️ On very cold and windy days, consider keeping your walks shorter to avoid discomfort due to the temperature.

🔦 As the daylight hours are still reduced, ensure you and your dog have reflective material that allows you to be seen by passing cars.

Did you know hyperthyroidism is one of cats' most common hormonal diseases? 🤔

It usually affects middle-aged to older cats, and it’s caused by a nodule in the thyroid gland that increases thyroid hormone production.

If your cat has hyperthyroidism, you might notice these signs:

🐱 Weight loss with increased appetite
🐱 Increased water intake and urination
🐱 Restlessness or even aggressive behaviours
🐱 Vomiting and diarrhoea
🐱 Unkempt fur

😺 Increased vocalisation

If you recognise these signs, book an appointment for your cat. It's important to diagnose hyperthyroidism early on to prevent complications, such as hypertension.
