Reward-based dog training and behaviour services There are classes for puppies and older dogs new to training, intermediate and advanced.

Abbey Dog Training provides training classes for dogs and puppies in Swindon, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire. We incorporate obedience, a little bit of fun agility (jumps and tunnel), and some trick training into all of our classes. We also offer puppy home start visits, home visits for training older dogs, and home visits for behaviour problems including aggression and separation distress.

Well, I received an email just a couple of days ago - and isn’t this just the loveliest way to finish off a fantastic year at Abbey Dog Training?!

Justine reached out to us for some help when she had rehomed Snoopita from Greece.

She had (quite rightly) allowed a few weeks for Snoopita to just settle in, but was now looking for some help with recall, and building on their relationship together.

This is what Justine had to say:

“I just wanted to share with you how fantastic our experience of training with Kamila has been. We learned so much more than we could have ever hoped. Kamila did so much to help us to understand our little Snoopita’s world and to try to make sure that whatever we ask of her is done through her eyes.”

I'm happy to say that we have been busy with pups coming through in November and early December - before Christmas.

And now the next pups are coming in January.

Some have already booked their "Pre-Puppy" session. Online with me to ensure that you get off to the best possible start - even before you bring the puppy home.

Very few coming over the manic Christmas period - which makes me happy for the pups!

One of the many things we discuss in Part 3 (Puppy Super Stars) is adolescence in dogs. It can be a very tricky time for dogs, and therefore for the dogs owners.

You are likely to see some changes in behaviour, and some of your previously good training will go backwards! It's normal! But it doesn't make it easy.

Here are two of our recent Puppy Super Star Graduates - Pippa and Maverick 😍🐕

Pippa most definately hit adolescnce during Part 3! So she is taking a little break now with her fabulous owner. And we are here to support them if needed.

Maverick has moved on to our weekly membership classes. He likes to be busy, and really enjoys his weekly sessions with us!

Bertie became a 'Puppy Super Star' this weekend! 😍 Olivia worked so hard too - I feel she needs a graduation cap! 🎓🥳

This weekend I (Rachel) had a grand total of 14 dogs who graduated from their Part 3 "Puppy Super Stars"! (Obviously not all in the same class 😱😂)

Congratulations to all of you. You really are Super Stars! 🥳⭐

Now, I'm afraid I'm a bit rubbish at taking photos! And even if I did, I wouldn't know how to create a montage like Brans! 😍

I love how he's checking the small print 😂

We had a few graduations yesterday - yes, we do work on Bank Holiday weekends when required!

I love this team!

Our Sunday morning online class continues to build bonds with owners and dogs, but for different reasons!

Peppa enjoys her training at home, and even though Lauren is a Mum of 2 young children, she always makes time for Peppa to do some fun stuff on Sunday mornings! It's totally Peppa time!

Lottie lives a little too far away, so Amy enjoys a once a week online 'get together', and some training (when Lottie is up for it!). As an adolescent (Lottie, not Amy😂) Lottie often needs to take a rest. So training from home works well for her to take a break, exactly when it is needed.

Shadow would prefer to not be around other dogs at close proximity, but she loves her training sessions! So the online class on Sunday morning is perfect for her!

So many good reasons why we do what we do for individual dogs, and we do it well!

Big shout out to my Sunday morning class who completed Part 2 of the 3 part puppy programme yesterday. Luna, Bailey, Maverick and Bran. 🥳

And here is Bran (Branston Pickle!) showing off his certificate in his graduation uniform 😍

All 4 dogs are booked for Part 3, so I wonder what Bran will wear for his next photo???

Due to incredibly high demand for puppy and adolescent training, I apologise that I might not be able to get back to you as quickly as I'd like to at the moment.

I still aim to answer all enquiries within 2 - 4 days. Even more reason to get in touch sooner rather than later with puppy enquiries!

But please be patient if you haven't heard back from me. I'll be working on it!

Holly has just completed her Foundation Puppy Training course
(Part 2 of our 3 part programme).

And we think she's quite proud of her certificate 😍

I'll very much look forward to seeing Holly and her owners for Part 3 - (booked for 2 weeks time) when we discuss adolescence (and maybe Rachel will sneak in a 'leave the certificate alone' excersise?) 😂

If you (or anyone you know) are getting a puppy soon, or have recently got a puppy, please don't wait until they are fully vaccinated before contacting us.

Our comprehensive and very popular puppy programme usually books around 4 - 6 weeks ahead. So the very best time to contact us is BEFORE you bring your puppy home. Or failing that, as soon as possible after bringing them home.

Please don't wait until they are fully vaccinated, or you are having problems! Be proactive, not reactive!

Monty's gundog practice

Here's Monty showing off his gundog skills. We've been working on his retrieve and steadiness so that he can wait for the dummy to be thrown without automatically chasing after it and you can judge for yourself how well he's doing. The lead walking is coming along really well now, and although we still have lots to work on, including the delivery to hand, there is so much good stuff in here, considering he's a teenager! The work his mum puts in with him is evident and paying off!!

Last night Cooper did the shopping and tonight Cara puts it away! Teamwork makes the dream work!

Tonight’s bronze class did a bit of work on free-shaping and shaping - letting your dog lead on an interaction with an object and selectively rewarding what you like. After 10 mins Cooper was pushing the trolley across the room! Have you ever tried this method of training? What did you teach? Cara’s video to follow tomorrow!

Wait training with burpees!

In our Puppy Superstars class last week we were progressing ‘wait’ and the homework was to work on something you are struggling with at home that you’d find helpful. Here’s the outcome… dogs who can wait while their humans get dressed/undressed at walkies time, dogs who can wait while we rummage for stuff, and dogs who don’t jump on us while doing burpees!!! 🕵🏼‍♀️👜🤸🏼 It’s amazing what you can achieve with a little practice. The dogs did great, although the humans were reminded about the unnecessary repeated use of the ‘wait’ cue! 🤣

Me and Ted have been working on this since forever! (So it seems!) Amazing what we can do when we actually do our homework with our dogs! So - spend your Lockdown time wisely. Do some fun training with your dogs!

Floki...

Introducing Floki! He used to like digging the garden up... In our "owners-only" session on Sunday, we discussed how this could be managed. I suggested a sand pit (with toys, chews etc. buried in it), and teach him to dig there instead. Within 2 days, Sasha and David built this awesome 'pit' for Floki. I think he likes it!
