Super busy day 17 stables mucked out 3 fields poo picked and 2 ponies lunged! 🥴 but my last job of the day was too ride the lovely Tamallen and he was such a good boy and had a blast round the field in the beautiful sunshine❤️

I was teaching him too do a nice collected canter one side of the field and the other side too have a good gallop! He’s a superstar ⭐️

Do you love taking photos?

Have you ever thought of making a career out of it but don’t know where to start?

Ever wondered how many established professionals got started?

I was asked this very question today!

I “dabbled” for years, and got a lot wrong 🙈 I actually took my first photos of horses in 1995 aged 12 on a disposable camera, and sent one off to a competition and got runner up! The t-shirt and badge are framed on my wall as a reminder of where it all began!

Fast forward to 2017 and I wanted to do it as a job. So I started by offering free/cheap shoots to “build my portfolio”. Hindsight has told me doing that attracted the wrong type of clients (people wanting something for nothing) and only makes it harder to raise prices later!

That same year I got lucky and managed to get work as a freelancer for several established photographers, but I felt a bit like a fraud. Who was I to have my photos sold at professional prices? But on the job training saw my confidence grow to new levels and I took on my first multi ring show! We had lots of trial and error, and I cringe looking back on my time “winging it” but I learned so much! If only there were someone back then offering trainings and support in both the photography and business areas…

So how would you like to skip the “trial and error” and pain I went through, learn from professionals, and start getting paid almost straight away?

Well you’re in luck! I’m running another event photography workshop in Bucklebury near Newbury so you can learn the best angles, timing and how to work with the sun for professional looking shots.

There has never been a better time to get trained and confident as a freelancer, as there is a shortage this year with many photographers searching for people!

The lovely Cortens Equestrian attended our October workshop, and has been taken on as a member of the team! She earned back her workshop investment in less than 2 days with us!

Feeling super proud of Tam! His lovely owners allowed me to take him out for his first little outing and he was such a superstar! He had one little baby moment to begin with but once he got going he was such a good boy and was at the front of the ride the whole time leading the way being such a brave boy! Considering this was his first outing I couldn’t be more pleased with how he went 😊 he even earned his first rosette! ❤️

Slightly new addition to my business I am now also doing equine photography alongside freelance grooming/riding. I’m very lucky to say I am now the official photographer for Mortimer Riding Club! One of the best parts of my job is bringing on these amazing horses, the first time I rode tam he was a very nervous horse who struggled to hack alone and would spin and feel very uptight when he got anxious… Now Tam hacks alone and in company and he is foot perfect and takes no notice of anything! ❤️
