Young puppy finale with them all recalling at the same time 🤩. What a super bunch of puppies and humans 🌟
Sundays Grades working in close proximity! This takes hard work and consistent training but these guys knocked it out the park! 🤩
Harts pro hounds and Side by side hosting another walk without worry workshop finishing with 9 dogs walking passed each other without issue.
A walk without worry workshop is designed for dogs who may find the environment and other dogs overly stimulating.
Frustrated greeters that want to bark through frustration because they want to say hello.
Nervous dogs who are maybe a little worried about saying hello.
Both present as the same behaviours but the dogs needs are very different outcomes.
Teaching owners the skills of reading their dogs and other dogs body language, reading that body language and either allowing them so say hello or helping them to disengage keeping them safe to build their confidence.
Huge well done to everyone involved 🥰
Did you know that 20 minutes of Scent work is equivalent of a good hours walk!
One pot has a target scent in it and the other has no scent in it and P has to indicate which pot holds the scent. We’ve not been doing scent work for that long so I was please with this bit homework.
We do our Scent work with Rachel of Happy Dog training because trainers like to train their dogs too!
Ps I was just using her normal meal here and she could’ve at any point helped herself to the bowl but dogs love to work for their food!
Puppy recalls and all the puppies going at the same time 💥
What does a dog trainer do on a day off??…
Heel work v loose lead…. Is there a difference?? Yes! It’s not easy for a little dog with a tall handler but she did me proud today 🥰
Loose lead is the ability to walk in a relaxed fashion with a loose lead in or near you; heel work is a much more controlled focus position that can be good for walking passed distractions for a tiny period of time.
Platform work gives your dog a place to be where they can focus on their job of remaining steady on the platform. We can then add is distractions and here we have high level distractions of another dog walking passed in close proximity. Once your dog is nailing this the platform can be removed and the result will be the same. Great job by all 🤩
Super proud of Logan, Penny and Vincent ❤️💙
This maybe doesn’t look much to the naked eye but when you have a dog that gets frustrated, over excited or anxious this is huge and the 3 of them plus their hoomans did amazing 🤩
When we have a dog that gets a little worried for whatever reason it’s really quick to transfer onto us humans. Yesterday we spent lots of games building confidence for human and dogs, rewarding great choices that our dogs were making and this was the result! Happily mooching around each other without a care of other dogs there 🤩🤩
This was a part of our Walking without worry workshop. The next one is in Thatcham on the 21st August and there is only a couple of spaces left. I will drop the link in the comments below.
When we have a well rehearsed behaviour of pulling we have to get out the good stuff! With chronic pulling we have to motivate our dogs to make good decisions. Last night we were using a tube of primula cheese! Will he need the cheese forever? Absolutely not but there is a journey to go to get there.
Pulling makes walks a bit of a chore for you and your dog, injury can occur for you and the dog with chronic pulling. Why make it such a chore when something as simple as primula cheese can get the desired result!
Good job Jenner and Alfie 😍
Penny had a fairly stressful day yesterday! We are away on a training course; the dogs have to spend a huge amount of time in their vehicle, different and BIG dogs everywhere! I don’t know nor care how smelly whatever this is was! P behaved impeccably and this was lunch and I let her do whatever she wanted to do for some fun 🤩
She’s never stayed in a hotel with me and she found this stressful too so we’ve been up since 5!!!! And we’ve already had a little walk. Day 2 will be less strsssful and I’m sure we will both sleep well when we get home.
So proud of how she has behaved so far this weekend. Ps she’s now sleeping again needless to say 🤣
Hooper fun with P! Thank you Karen we loved today 🥰
What do dog trainers do on a weekend off…. Why train their own dogs of course!
IMDT conference on the Saturday with amazing speakers Sarah Fisher, Rob Hewing and Dave Brice. Always fab to network with new and old faces.
The highlight however was ⬇️!! Over 50% of dogs have noise sensitivity! This exercise was building courage and resilience; if I run towards the scary noise the noise stops and I am rewarded for bravery making confidence grow.
Little P did me so proud yesterday 🥰
My lesson plans for Young puppies will be tweaking on the back of this weekend. If you want to be part of it check out my website for further information.

A bit of Hoopers fun with Penny 🤩
Stop 🛑
Puppy plus nailing their remote sits. It’s a safety cue we teach our dogs to at distance stop in a sit so we can return to our dogs, keeping them safe.
MIDDLE! What uses can you use middle for?
What is good Socialisation?
Firstly what’s not good socialisation!…..
Don’t think of it as play with as many dogs as possible for your young puppy. Play dates with older and calmer dogs is good but 2 or 3 puppies in a room or a park, what can go wrong??
Bringing a puppy into the world you want to shape your pup into the adult dog you want them to grow.
Over exposure can result in a negative experience where you pup can learn to be a bully or learn to be terrified of dogs for the rest of their life. Over exposure can cause emotion of extreme excitement, frustration or fear.
Yes it can go well too but you need to be there to step in, to protect them so they can look to you for trust that you will keep them safe.
Listen to your pup. Don’t make them say hello if they don’t want to, reward choices, reward interactions that go well and heavily reward disengagement.
Don’t pull them away but in a light tone say their name and give them a treat for coming away.
Just let them get on with it and they will sort it out for themselves? NO NO NO!!! What is this teaching your pup? You aren’t there for them when they need you? That dogs are scary!
Socialusation is good at a level of exposure that your puppy can cope with. This goes not only for other dogs but people of all description, wearing hats 🧢 holding umbrellas ☂ carrying boxes 📦 with children 👶 on bicycles 🚴 cars 🚘 at a safe distance, sounds, smells, different textures underfoot, everything and anything but ALWAYS at a safe level your puppy can cope with.
Socialisation is a critical period in every puppies life and you get one chance at getting it right.
If you bring home a Rescue dog then follow the same advice as if they were a pup giving them lots of time to decompress and adapt.
Always be your pups hero 🦸♀️ and you will grow to have the best bond where you pup looks to you for trust and to keep them safe 🐶🐾

Awe baby Bailey demonstrating a really nice form of mental enrichment for meal time. Days over the Xmas period how many different ways could you feed your dog that takes little to no effort from you but that your dog will love doing. Puzzle solving is a great way to tire their mind. Yes there are lots of shop bought puzzle feeders out there but get creative and watch your dog enjoy 😊
Little tribute post to our Rosie 🥰
Late drop in for day 4 tip! But today’s tip is don’t forget to have fun with your dog/s over Xmas. It’s a very stressful time for them let’s make sure they get some of our focus too.
