The Crazy Cat Sitter

The Crazy Cat Sitter 😸 Hi, we're Sophie & Joe & we offer professional cat & small animal sitting services around Tadley😸 I am located in Bramley and more than happy to travel.

About Me

Hi, I'm Sophie and I am a very proud kitty parent to my beautiful Olive & Milo and two degus, Kramer & Jerry and am very passionate about animals. I have lived with furry friends including cats, hamsters, gerbils, degus & fish. My little ones are my absolute world and I completely understand wanting to make sure whomever is caring for your little ones is going to give them all the love a

nd attention they need. I have 20+ years experience caring for all sorts of animals & have experience with some exotic & rescue animals from volunteering at a local rescue. Visit Information

I offer once daily or twice daily visits and overnight stays. I charge 20p per mile for journeys further than 3 miles from me (charged once per day regardless of the number of visits). Visits are approximately 45 minutes. During peak times, or for a last minute/emergency drop in, visits may be reduced to a very minimum of 20-30 minutes but I will always aim to make up additional time on other visits. Overnight stays are usually from dinner to breakfast, approximately 11-14 hours, but we can arrange other timings as well as lunchtime visits if desired. Nothing is too much trouble so please don’t hesitate to ask! I'm more than happy to accommodate any other requests such as watering plants, putting bins out, opening & closing curtains & windows, feeding other pets/birds, medications, vet appointments etc. Why Me? I have a Level 3 Diploma in Feline First Aid, passed with 99% distinction. I carry a full first aid kit along with a spare cat carrier, food, water, bowls, litter scoop, bags, toys, treats, brush, cleaning items - everything we could possibly need and more with me to all visits, so you can rest assured I am fully prepared for all situations. I am happy to administer injections and have experience caring for diabetic cats. If you would like any advice on food/nutrition and enrichment for your cats please do not hesitate to ask. I offer a free meet & greet for all my new kitties so we can run through everything before the big day and I will send you daily updates and pictures throughout. All visits include food & water, litter change, setting cat flaps/letting in & out, playtime, cuddles & brushing (if your kitty likes!), tidying up of cat areas & any other bits by request. I also carry auto-timer feeders so your little ones can have a lunchtime meal if that's part of their routine. See What I'm Up To

πŸ’‰ Did you know we can administer injections? We look after several diabetic cats, and cats needing immunotherapy treatments, and love being able to offer injections as part of our visits, as it can be very tricky to find someone able to administer them whilst you're away. Here's Lulu being a very good girl for Joe whilst she has her twice daily insulin injection, followed of course by a treat and big cuddle.

Cats almost exclusively develop type 2 diabetes and it is pretty similar to how humans experience type 2. Most cats will require their insulin injections every 12 hours, often a certain amount of time after having their meals. Luckily Lulu appears at meal time, but if your cat is an explorer they may need to be indoors to make sure they get their injections on time (or you might need to have a reliable tracker).

Risk factors for diabetes in cats includes obesity, advanced age, inactivity and steroid medication use. Male cats are more at risk of developing diabetes than female. This is another reason we highly recommend a quality cat food that doesn't include sugar and grains - cats shouldn't have sugar at all and grains also contain carbohydrates. Cats are obligate carnivores and don't need carbohydrates (although some may have health benefits in very small amounts). If in doubt, leave it out! When looking for a food make sure the main ingredient is a named meat/fish source (not 'derivatives'), over 60% meat/fish and no sugars/grains 🧑

We have a cuddle train! Olive isn't a fan of other cats at the best of times but allowed Eddie a little cuddle, and even licked him! There's hope yet 😹

Always miss our babies when we're away! Eddie is nearly 6 months! He's definitely reached the 'challenge the hierarchy' stage, much to Olive and Milo's distaste.

This is so so sad. Please read if you use, or are consider using, self cleaning litter boxes - the name is a bit of a gimmick as they still need cleaning of course (in my experience more than regular boxes and they're much more hassle, plus the several 100 pound price tag)

We have a cute cube unit to house our litter box which disguises it πŸˆβ€β¬›

You may have read some recent news stories reporting on how several cats have been killed when using certain brands of self-cleaning litter trays πŸ˜”

Unfortunately, this seems to be true. The cats have become stuck in the opening of the self-cleaning tray, which then rotates and closes off the opening onto their head or neck. This is absolutely tragic, and my sympathies are with anyone who had lost their cat in such a terrible way, I'm so sorry for your loss and that you've been through such a horrific ordeal πŸ˜ΏπŸ’”

Whilst some self-cleaning litter trays do not function this way, and are therefore deemed safe, I would still not recommend them to caregivers because:

πŸ‘ŽThey can be noisy, which can frighten cats and prevent use, making them more prone to house soil or develop stress-related cystitis.

πŸ‘ŽMany are quite cramped and small - experts recommend that a litter tray should be 1.5 times the length of a cat from the nose to the base of their tail.

πŸ‘ŽThey are very expensive - you can buy a shallow storage container from your local supermarket that costs Β£5 and makes a great cat litter tray 🐱

If you are not sure what type of litter tray to buy for your cat, head over to the International Cat Care website for more information πŸ‘‡πŸˆβ€β¬›

This is the amazing rescue we got our Eddie from. They are absolutely inundated with requests for help and poor animals being abandoned or hurt. If you can foster or adopt please consider helping them, and always adopt don't shop 🧑

The vets that were fostering Eddie had so many beautiful kittens and older cats, some of which needed special care and are likely to live the rest of their lives in cages. Please help if you can 🀍

Dear All. Our foster homes are full and we are turning animals away every day which is heart breaking. And then yesterday five 4- week-old kittens were dumped in a bin at a bin store to a block of flats. So what do we do? Turn a blind eye? Say we can't help and leave them to die? Of course not, we've picked them up and they are being bottle fed and encouraged to wean. Now we need to find the mother cat who apparently, we discover today, was subsequently thrown out by the owner. She will be full of milk and calling for her kittens. Also the day before somebody with an 8 week old kitten she didn't want said she would put it out on the street if we didn't take it. So we have that kitten as well.
Please please if you have a spare room and love cats would you consider fostering for us?

Here is a picture of the kittens last night after rescue. Safe from harm. Not a great picture I know but there are 3 black/black and white and 2 tabbies.

😺 Eddie update! We had to purchase a Sure Pet Care microchipped feeder for little boy to make sure he's getting his calories in (yes kittens eat more than adults!). He's mostly interested in the bigguns food, despite it being the exact same food just in kitten 😹 This stops Milo the chonk eating his leftovers and also helps keep it fresher. We might get one for Olive for the same reason! Eddie is a grazer currently, unlike the other two.

The feeder was super easy to set up and he went straight for it no issues. We're going to get the matching cat flap at some point - at the moment we're having to let bigguns in and out and try and keep Eddie in. The flap lets you programme who can go in and out, but I forsee issues with them learning it 😹

Here's the microchipped feeder. Sadly I can't find one that is both a timer and a microchip, just one or the other, and Olive can break into our timed ones πŸ˜–

We got ours from Pets at Home - it's on sale and as we're members of their VIP club we got another 10% off our first kitten shop. It's expensive but handy if you have cats who need medications or set foods and you don't have to buy as many bowls. We love it so far!

🧑 Eddie and Milo are now great friends and play together. Our plan to get Milo a friend so he leaves Olive alone worked perfectly, he hasn't gone after her once! Eddie is very cute copying how Milo sits. He's seen the outside and very much wants to explore - we will let him out next week after his vet check up.

We have finally perfected the cat proofing 🀞 so bigguns have been out exploring. Milo spends the whole time trying to escape and failing and getting mad 😹

Bank holiday fun! Can you guess what we're doing? In other news Eddie has now explored the whole house and hung out with Olive - she did some hissing when he got too close and lots of staring, but overall a great success! She tried to eat Milo when I got him so I was expecting far worse πŸ₯°πŸ˜»
