Yes Sophie's back!! The last practical workshop went so well we are doing it again!
Are you interested in helping your horse to feel freer and more relaxed?? Come along and find out how to check for muscle pain and learn some techniques in release.
This workshop by Meldrum Vet Physio will include practical anatomy, muscle palpation, basic stretches and some massage techniques.

Sadly we said goodbye to Luke today. He had been a fabulous horse for the riding school since he arrived in June 2021, and was one of our Stage 3 jump horses, but after extensive veterinary treatment for a number of lameness problems the vets said that there was nothing more they could do to get him sound.
Even on painkiller he was noticebaly uncomfortable in the paddock so we made the difficult decision to let him go.
This never gets any easier for me no matter how many times we lose one of our beloved equine team, but the decision is made on consultation with the vets and with the horses' welfare in mind.
RIP Luke. Run painfree over the rainbow bridge 🌈💔🐎

ROAD CLOSURES!! From July 22nd the roads around us will be closed for essential gas works. The stables can be acessed from The Avenue and Motts Hill Lane. (restricted access road).
Access from Hurst Lane is not affected and we can be accessed from Chequers Lane but not through the village. This work is due to take 6 weeks.
Road closures will change during the 3 phases and we will update you. This is phase 1
Please refer to the map and leave a litle bit of extra time to get to us. Thank you

We’re sure that many of you have noticed we've had a mild and wet winter, and the spring grass is now making its way through 💦 As horse owners we need to be vigilant so that we spot any signs of laminitis as early as possible, especially in any horses or ponies who are prone to the disease and those who might be carrying that extra bit of weight after the winter months 🐴

Well, maybe, just maybe better weather is on the way 🤔. The clocks will go forward soon with lighter evenings.🕐 Meanwhile Jason is coming along beautifully with his schooling against the background of a gorgeous sunset.
Thursdays evening pub rides will start the beginning of May and we still have some spaces on the Easter Bank Holiday ride. Pony Club Easter holiday activities are on the website.

🌧️MUD FEVER🌧️

As our fields have become wet and muddy this winter. A very common problem around this time of year is pastern dermatitis aka Mud fever.

Mud Fever can be caused by lots of different things:

Most commonly it is caused by commensal bacteria that are able to invade the skin due to constant wetting/abrasions of the skin e.g Dermatophilus congolensis, Staphylococcus spp

🪳Leg Mites - chorioptic mange
🧫Ringworm - fungal infection
🦠Folliculitis - deep infection of hair follicles with Staphylococcal bacteria
🧪Contact with irritant chemicals
☀️Photosensitisation/sunburn associated with liver disease or certain plants
🧬Immune mediated disease of the blood vessels

To treat mud fever properly the infectious agents, need to be eliminated to break the cycle of inflammation. We advise:

✂️Clipping the legs
🧼Washing the legs
💨Drying them thoroughly
🧴Applying our mud fever cream daily

This evening we said goodbye to Shannon after an injury in the field. Box rest and pain management was not effective and a fracture was suspected so no other option. Run pain free Shannon over the rainbow bridge 🌈 You were such a fabulous school horse!💔🐎

PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU ARE COMING TO THE RIDING CENTRE FROM EPSOM VIA EPSOM LANE AND KINGSWOOD ROAD, THE ROAD IS CLOSED.
Diversion will take you via Preston Lane and Tadworth Street and is not very well signed and quite a long way around!
