As I’m sure most of you know by now, I have made the extremely difficult decision to close Bark Club at the end of February (our last day of work is actually Wednesday 1st March). All appointments up until then will be honoured and we still have plenty of space for anyone wanting their pups groomed before we close.

From the bottom of my heart, I can’t thank all of our loyal customers enough. Your generosity, support and trust with your dogs over the past 5 years has been nothing short of life changing. If anyone needs recommendations for a new groomer or would like to cancel their appointment, please send us a message.

With the soggier weather coming please try to rinse off your pooches paws after being on a muddy/sandy walk (especially those long haired breeds!).

When grit or mud dries between pads it holds onto the hair and creates rock hard clumps which can be painful for your doggies and affect how they walk. (Similar to us walking around with big rocks in our shoes😣). This took us 5 minutes per foot to remove today as the dog was really uncomfortable with it.

Had the most magical weekend with our loved ones and doggies and I’m now a married lady!💍

Had the pleasure of grooming Teddy, the puppy yesterday. What an absolute dream he was - his parents have been doing a great job with him by getting him used to the bath, hairdryer and brush at home and boy what a difference it makes when they come to the groomers!
He was super happy, chilled, confident and playful. Exactly what we are aiming for with young dogs in the groom room!

And how CUTE is he?!😍

Everyone loves our de-shedding treatment 🥰 we use specialist casting products along with various tools, drying & brushing techniques for optimal hair removal. This treatment helps to reduce shedding by assisting in removing dead & stuck hair, making your doggos coats healthier, shinier and smoother! (and leaving you not having to hoover up every day 😉).

What’s included? A double wash, blow dry, brush out and de-shed, nails clipped, ears cleaned and cologne to finish!

Hello you lovely lot! As most of you may know by now, both Jacqueline and I are getting married this year (not to one another 😅🤣) which we are so super excited for!

This does however mean that we have a lot of time off this year - between hens, weddings and honeymoons - we really encourage you all to block book up until July. We have a whole 3.5 weeks off in June which means some grooming schedules may be a few weeks out from their usual.

We will do our best to fit everyone in and work around this but we do operate on a first come first served basis and can only do so much if people don't make their next few appointments in advance.

We will be working through messages, emails and phonecalls over the next few days so please give us a wee message and we will ensure your doggies are popped in the diary for the next few months🐾.

I just want to begin this by stating that we have never used a cage dryer/box dryer/drying cabinet at Bark Club and we never plan to but please read on 👇🏻..

Very sadly I'm sure you've all read somewhere by now that a 9 month old Cockerpoo puppy died of intussusception (I’ll explain what that means in a sec) earlier this year and it just so happened to happen following a visit to his groomer in Glasgow. The puppy became unwell whilst in the groomers care and the groomer did everything by the book to make sure the puppy was treated correctly by calling the owner immediately and advising a visit to the vet.

Intussusception is when a part of the intestine telescopes or folds in on itself. It can occur in dogs of all shapes and sizes and around 80% of affected animals are less than a year old. It can be caused by an intestinal blockage or a bacterial infection. Neither of these things can possibly be caused by a visit to the groomers.

Devastatingly the dog couldn’t be operated on because his blood wouldn’t clot and there are many, many reasons that this might happen but largely it is an inherited disorder.

Unfortunately because the groomer stated to the vet in her report that she had used a drying cabinet, the vet mentioned that the blood thinning could have been as a result of heatstroke (the same would have been said about a handheld dryer). Although there is absolutely no evidence that this was the cause and despite that the vet then in fact went on to say that the death of the puppy COULD NOT be attributed to the visit to the groomers, the media have picked this up and are running with it.

The Mirror, The Sun, The Daily Mail, LadBible, The Express… (the list goes on), are all running with the headline that the puppy died as a result of the use of the drying cabinet used in the grooming salon.

Let me start by saying that I do not have one in my salon for the simple reason that I have never used one before. But the drying cabinet can be great for many dogs.

For dogs that don’t like the loud handheld dryers, the drying cabinets are absolutely ideal. Old dogs, anxious dog or even dogs who struggle to stand for periods of time are ideal candidates for drying cabinets and I've personally heard from many groomers that dogs typically enjoy sitting in there. It’s often a struggle to get them out!

Groomers up and down the country have been through the ringer this week following these headlines and questioned over the use of their equipment.

Please just let me say this. Of all the pieces of kit in the grooming salon, the drying cabinet is one of the least dangerous when used correctly. We use razor sharp scissors on every wriggly dog we groom and they can do a heck of a lot more damage than a dryer. The best thing we can do to combat this is by bringing your dog on a regular schedule so that they are relaxed, stress free and have a great trusting relationship with their groomer whilst in their care.

Whilst every one of us in the grooming community are sad to hear that a family tragically lost their puppy, we also have to stand up for ourselves. We do this job because we love it and we would never intentionally put any dog at unnecessary risk.

🐾 Price Increase 🐾

Hi everyone & Happy New Year!

With increasing costs from suppliers and general running & maintenance costs of the salon we've had to raise the price of some breeds to reflect this. I've notified as many of you as possible at your last appointments but this is just a wee notice for those of you who may have missed it. Prices will be raised by £2-5 depending on breed, style, grooming schedule, temperament, time taken etc. If you'd like to know your pups new price before their groom just pop us a message. We understand if this increase is not feasible for some so if you wish to cancel any future appointments please let us know.

Working our way through Facebook & Instagram messages tomorrow before getting back to work on Monday. We will answer any missed calls and text messages next week as the work phone is in the groom room.

And that's us pampered our final pooch of 2021!

We will be back to work on Monday 10th January but until then we will be chilling out, eating alllll the chocolate we've been kindly gifted, walking our doggies and spending quality time with our loved ones. Our reply time will be slow during this period but we will get back to you at some point.

Yesterday's beautiful babies. We had 8 spaniels through our doors! So as you imagine it was a day filled of craziness and cuddles 🤪🥰.
Hachi the Japanese Akita and Indie the German Shepherd also popped in for a bath and blowdry. And of course, little Viggo has to make an appearance somewhere in the photos ❤

Reluctantly gave my own wee man his first big boy haircut today!! Now I understand how you all feel after the first proper puppy clip... I love it, it's a lot more maintainable, he will dry quicker after walks and be less mucky in general BUT I miss his scruffiness so much already 🥺. I guess it'll just take some getting used to. But hey, at least we now have a real looking Miniature Schnauzer 🤣. Viggo says hi everyone!👋🏻❤

Poppy appreciation post 🤩

This little lady is a dream to groom even though she's still a pup! She comes in and behaves perfectly in the bath and on the table, gives us loads of cuddles & kisses and then proceeds to play with Viggo until she goes home. Win win as it means Viggo is nice and tired for the rest of the day 🤣.

Can't wait to see her after her big girl haircut next time!💓

As an owner of one reactive dog, I understand this all too well. If you see another dog coming towards you on lead, please be considerate and put yours on too. Not all dogs are friendly or want to play with other dogs!

It really doesn’t matter if your dog is friendly or not.

What matters is that you don’t take the choice away from another owner (and their dog) as to who they interact with.

There can be so many reasons why a dog and their owner need space from you and your dog.

Please allow them that choice 💙

Everyone, meet Viggo! Our own little Miniature Schnauzer has joined our family. We've been super busy since getting this wee man on Thursday - I forgot how much of a 24 hour job having a puppy was 😅. I aim to get back to all messages by tomorrow night but please bear with us. I'm not ignoring you, I'm just preoccupied with putting a stop to toileting in the house, our shoes being chewed to bits and sleepness nights 😴🤣. Ha! Wouldn't change it for the world.
