Proofing recall for reactivity is a game changer. We dont need to be pulling the dogs left to right and lifting the dog in the air to stop them lunging, as lunging can be self reinforcing for our dogs. It’s about communication and communication starts with relationship building and of course repetition in environments that your dog has clarity in.
So before we start all this we start on the foundations first of course. In our session with Zico today it was all about proofing the recall and giving him that clarity. In our session we used a helper dog, our very own Kady, and it was beautiful to see Zico have more space to engage with the environment and explore where Kady has been as this a great way for your dogs to learn from one another. (its like a Facebook for dogs 😆) we took away any pressure and any form of barrier frustration and proofed our recall and worked to Zicos comfort level.
