Dogs are naturally selfish creatures who would most likely be protecting themselves or a resource.
Labelling dogs as this or that isn't really helpful in understanding how they think because news flash it isn't the same as humans. This can also be the same as any behaviour taking place is the dog stubborn or is it just lack of clarity.
This is know as anthropomorphism

We get a lot of questions regarding Socialisation in puppy classes but what is good quality Socialisation?
it's not about flooding them and having to meet every dog or person we see, its about the quality of that Socialisation.
Nothing is cute or cool about having a dog jumping all over another dog and learning really unwanted behaviours. Puppy classes are not just a chance for your puppy to free for all but to learn skills and educate puppy owners.
No, we don't walk our dogs every day. There are reasons for this, but on their days off, we make sure they get some enrichment in other ways. Using their noses, paws and brains to locate and snag their share of the goodies

There’s two caveats to this:-
1. Don’t do this if your dog isn’t super tactile and doesn’t enjoy physical opposition. I wouldn’t do this with my spaniel cross for instance, because he’d hate it. If your dog loves a rumble this is probably for them.
2. Keep it loose and silly (if you feel a little bit like a twat you’re doing it right) if it starts to get serious on either side, it’s probably a good sign not to play this game. You should be your dogs favourite villain, think more “Disney” less “James Bond”

obviously, if your dog has to toilet outside (you live in a flat, they don't go in the garden), then use your common sense. also, if you live near a body of water they can dip in and out of, then you're probably fine, but we're talking about long, hot pavement walks. It's probably best to just let your dog sit it out until it cools down

Trying different types of lure with probably our least motivated “least worky” dog to help her be a bit pushier in training. She did really nicely and we were able to add lots of movement in - considering her seasonal allergies are pissing her right off. On that note, if your dog is struggling (for whatever reason) don’t ask too much, keep sessions really short. This was probably about 4 mins total
