Mary Dickin and her care for animals welfare shaped the welfare of those pets in families with no money and gave them the ability for them to receive veterinary treatment. What a fantastic woman and fantastic charity, still going strong over 100 years after being founded

An incredibly eye opening experience working there but also so full of hope and the love people had for their pets...I was witness to the alleviated suffering of vunerable animals...I met some wonderful people and pets during my time there and still have some fantastic friends I worked with all those years ago.. ✨️🐾✨️🐾✨️🐾✨️🐾✨️

"If you want something doing, do it yourself!" was PDSA founder Maria Dickin's motto.

Working as a social worker in London's East End, Maria witnessed the extreme poverty families were experiencing at that time. This, along with the devastating loss of her beloved dog, inspired Maria to make it her life's mission to ensure pets didn't have to suffer due to their owner's inability to afford treatment.

On this day, 108 years ago, Maria Dickin founded the first PDSA Pet Hospital in a cellar in Whitechapel, London.
