Hi everyone as some of you know I volunteer at The Max & George Trust to groom the dogs in rescue waiting to find there forever home they are currently looking for the following if you can help please either message me or the trust directly

TOWELS & BLANKETS, Blitz kitchen roll & disinfectant NEEDED 🐶

Due to the worsening wet & cold weather, we are in need of more old towels & blankets to help keep the rescue dogs dry & warm.

Please have a rummage around in the back of your cupboards for any old & unwanted towels & blankets.

If you have any to donate, please send us a private message letting us know your address & preferred pick up days/times & we will organise collection at your convenience.

Alternatively, you can leave them in the donation bin on the driveway, at any time.

⚠️ Tip for summer ⚠️ A pinch of science why not to clip down your double coated long hair dogs ⚠️

This doesnt just Include your larger breeds, this includes smaller breeds like pomeranians and applies to smooth coated long hair like long haired chihuahuas.
If your not sure what type of coat your breed has, spare a couple of minutes to research or feel free to ask a dog professional.

Asking your groomer to clip down your dog for hotter weather will not make your dog cooler. It actually does the complete opposite.

Dogs sweat through their eccrine sweat glands found in their pads and through panting. NOT through their skin. However their skin has many appendages which play a vital role in how they control their body temperature with many other functions.

Clipping the coat damages the 3 stage cycle of the hair. This can kill the coat, cause it too grow back thicker, cause clipper alopecia, damage cells and functions of the skin and hair.

Also double coated breeds have more delicate skin, removing the coat leaves your dog exposed to cuts and abrasions but most importantly exposure to the sun. Dogs have Langerhan cells in the outer epidermis layer of the skin which generate immune responses and help protect the skin from bacteria and viruses as well as fighting of Injuries such as scrapes and cuts. These are destroyed by sunlight.

Dogs also have a mini muscles called arrector pili muscles which contract to lift the coat away from the skin or let it lie flat, meaning taking the coat too short effects the functions of these muscles and looses its ability to do this and help regulate its body temperature.

This does not mean you can not have a good tidy up of your breed, of course you can.
But please do not have your dog clipped or shaved down to the undercoat. Unless advised by your vet for a medical condition.
There is a science behind why they have the type of coats and different textures that they do.

And the heat is back I am trying to get to all customers booked in but the health and safety of the dogs must come first the heat in the van gets very hot air conditioning is in the van but does not work as effectively as should as the out let hose needs to be going outside so have to have door open slightly so does not give full effect

That phrase dogs die in hot cars goes for vans also so if I feel it’s to hot I will have no choice but to reschedule
