Day 7: Imaging

This week we’ll give you a behind the scenes look at our brand new facilities, one room at a time. Today is our diagnostic imaging room which is fully fitted out with our digital x-ray and ultrasound scanner. Diagnostic imaging allows us to gain a better understanding of what’s going on inside your pet’s body. Our x-ray can help us to diagnose orthopaedic problems such as fractured bones and osteoarthritis as well as taking a look at internal organs such as the gastrointestinal and cardiorespiratory systems. Alongside this our ultrasound allows us to see moving images of the soft tissues and is often a quicker and easier way of imaging as most animals will not need to be sedated. Used together they give us a powerful picture of what could be causing your pet to be unwell. All of our images are digital and so we can normally show you them when your pet is discharged.

Day 6: Dog Ward

This week we’ll give you a behind the scenes look at our brand new facilities, one room at a time. Today is our dog ward which includes 7 spacious kennels for our canine friends. Our kennels have been specially designed to be a higher height than most, allowing most breeds to be able to stand up properly. The ward also has an internal window so we can keep a really close eye on them whilst they’re asleep. Fully stocked with a range of diets… and plenty of gravy bones… all our dogs seem relaxed and content so far.

Day 5: Consultation Rooms

This week we’ll give you a behind the scenes look at our brand new facilities, one room at a time. Okay, so today isn’t technically behind the scenes but we’re very proud of our welcoming consultation rooms being the first port of call for all our patients. These rooms are where you’ll first meet your vet or nurse and your pets initial examination will take place. This may include a check of their ears, eyes or their vaccination appointments. Our fold up tables mean we can adapt our space easily for all animals, from the biggest dogs to the smallest hamsters, and our cosy nurses room has a softer finish for those quieter moments. 🐾

Day 4: Dental Suite

This week we’ll give you a behind the scenes look at our brand new facilities, one room at a time. Today is our dental suite. Dental hygiene is so important to our pets - it keeps them eating, it helps to prevent systemic diseases such as heart and kidney disease and it makes our lives more pleasant when it comes to cuddles on the sofa! We perform all our dental procedures under anaesthetic in an our dedicated room to stop bacteria from the mouth spreading to other animals and to make sure we have all our equipment at hand. Our dental X-ray machine means we can check exactly which teeth need to be removed and identify hidden problems like abscesses which can cause discomfort. All our dentals are priced as packages… meaning there’s no nasty surprises when it comes to the bill at the end 🦷

Day 3: Cat Ward

This week we’ll give you a behind the scenes look at our brand new facilities, one room at a time. Today is our cat ward which is located in a quieter part of the practice. Cats like their space and notoriously aren’t keen on the vets… so keeping them on their own in their luxury glass-fronted kennels means they’ve got space to relax and maintain their normal behaviours. This is a key part of our bid to become a cat friendly clinic. Along with our quiet cat corner of the waiting room and cat friendly techniques we can help to keep our feline patients calm and stress-free. Don’t forget to grab one of our Feliway scented blankets whilst you wait.🐈‍⬛

Day 2: Operating Theatre

This week we’ll give you a behind the scenes look at our brand new facilities, one room at a time. Today is theatre, our designated space for sterile procedures under general anaesthesia. This is where we perform all our operations from routine neutering through to emergency surgeries. Behind our amazing glass doors is a clean space with our operating table, piped oxygen and anaesthetic gases and specialist monitoring unit - ensuring all our patients are kept safe and stable throughout. In the future we’ll hopefully be joined by some travelling specialist surgeons who can perform orthopaedic and advanced soft tissue procedures in the practice so your pets don’t have to leave the village!

Day 1: Prep Room

This week we’ll give you a behind the scenes look at our brand new facilities, one room at a time. Today is prep… the hub of the practice. Here we would get animals ready for anaesthetics, undertake minor procedures such as blood tests and ultrasound scans as well as it incorporating our laboratory. Having a full suite of lab machines means we can run almost all blood samples in-house, meaning we’ll get your results quicker. This is also where the whole team work most of the day, meaning it’s normally where the tea round gets delivered to!

Meet Our Team: George Martyn (Practice Manager)

George grew up in Tarporley before moving to Exeter for university, graduating in 2013. Having spent seven years in London working in various business consulting roles, he moved to Tattenhall with his wife Sophie in September 2020 to escape the city and get back home.

As an observer of the veterinary profession from the outside, he has seen the rise of the corporate veterinary groups and the impact they have on their staff. Over the dinner table a week after their wedding, the plan was hatched to open an independent practice run by people in the community, for people in the community. His aim is to help develop a first-class service to those in the local area, delivered by a team that lives in and cares about Tattenhall.

Being married to a vet means only one thing – a house full of animals! Having moved back from London with only a cat, one pet quickly became three after Sophie rescued an injured terrier from a previous practice and then found it impossible to resist a labrador from a litter of pups in Milton Green.

George is sports mad, being able to watch any sport going on in front of him, although rugby is his real passion. Whilst no longer playing, he is just as happy at a big international game as he is on the sidelines watching the 2nd XV at Chester RUFC.

Thank you to Eden Veterinary Referrals for a fabulous night. We loved meeting other independent practices for support and advice across the county 🐶

Quick snap shot of a great evening with some of our local vet practice owners! 💙

This was the first (of hopefully many) ‘get to togethers’ EVR hosted for other local independent vets to have a nibble and a natter!

We aim to create a supportive community of independent practice leaders in our local region. Since this photo was taken, two of the ladies pictured have gone on to open their practice in Market Drayton!

We will be hosting more evenings in the new year so if you couldn’t make this one, don’t fret the invite is in the post! 🐾
