I never would normally post something like this but I feel it's so important to speak about your experiences in these situations for if anyone else go through the same situation (I'm aware that every situation if different but still)
On Saturday-Sunday morning I was sleeping on the sofa (too my alcohol!) with my two dogs downstairs with me. At 3:30am my 11 month old dog (A) woke me up scream/crying in what seemed to be in pain and ran around the room and then upstairs to Mantas still making the scream/cry noises, I was still trying to work out what was happening when Mantas shouted for me panicked as A was having a fit for upto 5 minutes as we were both having a panicked conversation about what to do and me trying to find the vets number, he then came to but he was extremely confused and barking/scared of us and didn't know who we were, he then ran/fell down the stairs scream/barking and sat in front of the front door and would not move. He was clearly extremely distressed so we decided to go in the living room and shut the baby gate as being honest we had to think of our other dog safely and ours while making sure A felt as secure as he could. After trying to give him treats and call him over he would not move so we left him alone. After about 20-30 mins he came and sat at the baby gate door but if we spoke to him or tried to go towards the gate he would give a gentle growl so we gave him space again and tried again 15 mins later in which A was taking treats from Mantas and was seeming to come round and become more aware of us and where he was, we then let him in the room and he seemed more himself from then, he wasn't 100% himself until this morning which I researched that was normal. The advice we were given during all this and was
- Turn off more of less all the lights and turn the TV off (we didn't do that as if the house is too quiet knowing A that would make things worst so they advised to turn the sound right down which we did)
- Do not to cover him in anything or hold him as he could over heat or hurt us from being confused and scared
- Make sure there is cool air (they wanted us to take him outside but he wasn't responding as I said so we couldn't do that) so lastnight we left the back door open just incase he overheated in the night
- To continue as normal and not make a fuss, using soft tones and try not to show him you're worried.
When he was having the fit there was alot of stuff coming out of his mouth and he pooed himself, in the panic I thought he was choking but realised it was a fit and we moved him to a open space so he didn't hurt himself further as there was lots of hard stuff around where he was. DO NOT move them if you can help it.
We are going to take him to the vets just to be sure it's nothing underlining etc.
Very scary experience in which I hope never happens again π’
β Obviously I am not an expert and call your out of hours vets immediately!!!! β
This is just our experience and advise as you are so panicked so it might help someone. π
