The following organisations also showed their support by proudly sponsoring the classes and dog activities Coombefield Veterinary Hospital 💚 Walpole Dunn Chartered Certified Accountants 💚 The Minster Veterinary Practice 💚 Blackdown Hills National Landscape 💚 SMS PC & iPhone Repair 💚 Debonair Dogz 💚 Verm-X 💚 Yarcombe Woodland Products 💚 Alro Services LTD 💚 Wiggle Tails Dog Paddock 💚 Pawsome Fun Paddock 💚 Tail Mill Tail Trail 💚 ADPR 💚 Heavenly Views Dog Park 💚and Jam 💚

Huge thanks as well to Su-Bridge Country & Pet Store who kindly sponsored the rosettes and Suzie from Suzanne McFadzean Portrait and Wedding Photography and Craig from www.beautifulmonsters.co.uk pet photography for the wonderful images from the day.

The annual moulting cycle of chickens typically occurs in autumn, coinciding with shorter days and cooler temperatures.

While the precise timing varies by location, the moulting period generally spans from August to November.

The peak of this feather-shedding process usually takes place during the latter part of September and throughout October.

Verm-X® Poultry Zest, formulated with all-natural active ingredients, supports your birds’ swift recovery post-moulting and is safe for year-round use.

Since it contains no synthetic chemicals, you can also confidently consume eggs from your hens without interruption. 🥚

Dietary requirements for our pets can often be intricate, and some dogs may be more sensitive to purines. This is most common in Dalmatians, who may possess a gene mutation causing elevated levels of uric acid.

Numerous other breeds might also experience this issue, including Russian Black Terriers, Bulldogs, Münsterländers and Spanish Water Dogs. These breeds may require low-purine diets to maintain their wellbeing and contentment.

In a recent Facebook event, Dr Nick Thompson discussed purines and their potential effects on your dogs, which we've summarised below.

Dietary needs for our pets can often be complex and some dogs may be more sensitive to purines, most commonly Dalmatians, who can have a gene mutation that causes high levels of uric acid. Your guinea pig is a fantastic communicator, but do you know what his sounds and noises mean? From Wheeking to Chutting, your little friend has developed a language to express everything from happiness to hunger. Let’s look at some:

Wheeking - this sounds like it is spelled. It is a noise exclusively used to communicate with humans and is usually associated with hunger or wanting food.

Purring - a unique low constant sound, not like a cat’s purr. Purring is usually associated with being happy. A male guinea pig will use a similar sound when he is wooing a female to mate, and it is often accompanied with strutting and wiggling his hips.

Growling - growling is the sound of distress, usually from being threatened by something nearby. It sounds like “drrr, drrr”.

Teeth Chattering - can happen when a rapid streak of squeaks is released and it usually means they are angry, unhappy or agitated at a certain situation.

Chutting - another repeated streak of sounds, like wheeking this sounds like it is spelled. Not all guinea pigs make this sound, but for those that do it happens when your guinea pig is relaxed, happy or content.

Shrieking - when your pig senses immediate danger or is feeling pain and discomfort. It’s important to immediately attend to the situation and figure out what caused such a sound.

Whining - like a high-pitched moan. Used when being disturbed is unwelcome or to tell us if we are doing something they don’t enjoy.

And here are the two runners-up from our Summer Photography Competition 📸

For the adult category, we received hundreds of entries, making the judges’ job extremely difficult!

The judges noted the technical ability showed in this gorgeous photo of Ottylie.

: “A straight-line retrieve in a dark environment is really tough, and this is incredibly well shot - super sharp in all the right places, beautiful bright eyes, perfect moment of stride and a lovely layered image taken from the floor level, drawing us right in. I couldn’t let it go past without a mention, it’s really well captured!”

We were delighted with this photograph of Tina Hustler’s flock and so were the judges.

: “There is SO much personality in this photograph! The composition is brilliant with the middle two chickens looking directly at the viewer which draws you in, and then you want to spend time looking around the scene. Even the washing line leads your eye downwards and towards the chickens. It really is a fantastic visual story.”

Why do we include Milk Thistle in our Verm-X Organic Dog Food Topper: Active & Working Blend? 🌱

One of Milk Thistle’s major actions is as an antioxidant. Antioxidants are required to neutralise unstable molecules called ‘free radicals’ which are produced during metabolic activity – something the liver does a lot of.

The liver is the ultimate multi-tasker, involved in almost all body processes, including the production of essential proteins, immunity and nutrient storage. It is also a powerhouse when it comes to toxins, removing and neutralising harmful substances from the circulation.

A liver under pressure is more vulnerable to the effects of free radicals, at a time when it is likely producing more of them, which is why our organic blend of herbs, spices and botanicals can work as a restorative after an active day.

This Organic Dog Food Topper is the perfect accompaniment to a raw food diet, blending into your dog’s meal easily, but can also be mixed into wet food or turned into a paste and added to dry food (simply add a teaspoon of water).

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Pigeon racing became popular in the UK during the Industrial Revolution, a sport which combines animal husbandry with the natural desire for competition.

Working-class men, particularly miners and factory workers, first took up the hobby as an accessible form of entertainment.

The sport has royal connections too - Queen Elizabeth II was a patron of pigeon racing and kept her own racing pigeons.

There are various race types, including sprint races and long-distance endurance events.

The Royal Pigeon Racing Association has organised many of these competitions in the UK since its inception in 1897, “We can look back with the satisfaction of knowing that our sport has stood the test of a century of time, and look forward with the knowledge and confidence that the fanciers who follow us will enjoy the sport of pigeon racing into the next century.”

The addition of our Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, which is said to aid digestion and improve the absorption of nutrients and is used by many to aid in joint support and mobility in dogs, means even more health benefits.

Is there such a thing as ethical dairy farming? This is a complex and often hotly debated topic.

With recent news stories about plant-based milk falling out of favour, particularly among Gen Z, many are choosing to return to whole cow’s milk.

Whilst there’s no universally agreed-upon definition for ethical dairy farming, some practices are generally considered more moral than others.

The Calf at Foot Dairy approach, cultivated by dairy farmer Fiona Provan, springs from a deep well of compassion and wisdom.

Modern dairy cows usually produce far more milk than required to raise their calves, so sharing that milk, when done fairly, isn’t detrimental to their young.

This method also recognises the important bond between mother and child, allowing calves to remain with their mothers until they’re ready to be weaned.

It seems to benefit the mothers too; the RSPCA notes that keeping cows with their calves may reduce their risk of mastitis, a painful udder condition.

Do you feed your dogs and cats a species-appropriate diet?

At Verm-X, we’re committed to providing our pets with the most natural and nutritious diet possible.

Many pet owners, including our team members, opt for Biologically Appropriate Raw Food (BARF) for their cats and dogs.
