As well as being a vetted trainer and provider or services for Fear of Dogs , as well as dog safety. I am now thrilled to be recognised as a provider of "KAD- School Dog Training" to sit alongside the work I already do with Therapy Dog Training UK as a School Dog and Therapy Dog assessor and trainer working with partnerships towards certification. My work with KAD means I am highly skilled in supporting partnerships achieving the relevant standards to be a Certified School Therapy Dog and the work of TDT UK to assess train and certify makes Peaceful Paws a leading provider for the South West.
If you would like to know more please ask.
I am not working currently as I am awaiting urgent surgery but will be up and running with a new look and focus from September. .

Peaceful Paws Training and Therapy is currently on hold whilst I wait for Urgent surgery. I am sorry we have been quiet here.
However, I have taken this time to continue to study. I have a few ongoing Dog centred courses. I have also taken time to extend my learning beyond canine learning and wellness.
Meditation and Mindfulness has been a practice I have been undertaking for many years and deepened my practice over the past 3 years.
This has included engaging Lola and Ronnie too, they both enjoy synchronising stillness and breath. I also often add soem aromatics which we select together.
Today I completed an online Meditation Diploma, which I am so proud to have done. It has tested my brain power currently and also encouraged me with my own practice.
Hopefully in the future I will be able to use this learning for adults and children and dogs too.

Wow. The engagement between these two is beautiful. I feel the horse is offering such lovely energy to the dog. The dog really wants to engage but it feels “odd”. It reminds me of a lovely dog Rufus Jordan. He was my first Reiki practice. He knew me well. Was a bit cautious but ok. Till I offered the energy then he leapt up with a “wtf”!

We are changing our focus for our work. After some time to explore the emotional needs of Guardians , their dogs and the Professionals who guide them I realised that there was so little to support this. Indeed a survey recently carried out found that there was an overwhelming need for a service focussing on emotional and physical wellbeing for all partners.
So here is the Blog to start off this venture. Please let me know what you think and what other support you may need.
I am excited to be able to help. Keep watching we will launch soon.
Review of "Dogs Behaving Very Badly" recent episode of Jax, the Belgian Malinois with separation anxiety. It's a long one but it's well worth a read. I don't

This is so important. We always want to stay under the threshold, stay in the Safe Learning Zone.
Rememeber to that this may apply to us too! Especially if our own buckets get full with managing our dogs big emotions and if the environment and situation is stressful too,
Be kind to yourself as well as the dogs!
I have a huge passion for reactive dogs.
They are challenging but SO rewarding. They are complex, challenging and their behaviour can be a puzzle to piece together.
It has been six months since I last shared this post, since then there has been a few thousand more followers....(thankyou to each and everyone of you 😊) and boy...some big names too.
Anyway...this is a post about thresholds, but more than that it is about deciphering body language and that is so important when working with reactive dogs.
I hope you find it helpful if you have a reactive dog or need help deciphering some body language in your own dog.
What doesn't help with anyones clarity, is everyone has a slightly different interpretation of what a threshold actually is. So this is my interpretation.
What is over or under threshold ?
For me, there is a point where your dog is either so hyper focused or reactive to whatever trigger it sees that it will now no longer listen and distraction is almost impossible.....OVER threshold.
If your dog is calm and relaxed, it is UNDER threshold.
Why is this helpful?
Knowing the signs of when your dog is starting to show its discomfort is KEY. If you can see the signs of stress rising (BEFORE) your dog goes OVER threshold....you can keep your dog from getting to the next level....where distraction becomes difficult and in some cases ...impossible.
So the key to thresholds is to work out those subtle signs that ALL dogs have...
The happy dog you know may be loose, bouncy and its tail wags in a certain way.
Your stressed dog behaves in a completely different way, it stiffens, may stare intensely, its tail may stiffen or "flag"....and there is a point that you can STOP the escalation...and that's why thresholds are important. So you can recognise (and STOP) when your dog is soon to go OVER threshold.

I have noticed recently a sense of overwhelm amongst Canine Professionals in all services. FB can be a great place to share this but also has its drawbacks, as many of us have noticed recently, there is a risk that we can garner unhelpful responses and these are the ones we take to heart. Generally life seems very pressured as well and this impacts our resilience in our Professional world (especially when so much is online or in the public eye.) Over the past few weeks, via seminars and general posts there have been some posts from other Professionals expressing concern and sharing some great support . For several years I have been privileged to have been asked for just this kind of help from both professionals and guardians . So below is an information gathering form to help me to understand if this is a service that would be helpful. If you could take a few minutes to fill in as detailed as possible I would be very grateful. Debby has given approval for this. I look forward to hearing from you. ALL replies are confidential and will only be seen by me. If you would like to PM or email me separately please do so .

With the focus on being the very best we can for our dogs it can feel really pressured to " get it right ". We all have a "problem" from time to time and its easy to feel judged when asking for help. Sometimes our own needs are overlooked in the process of changing the behaviour to the one we want. Things are changing though as we recognise that Guardian feelings can really impact the dogs needs as well as their feelings impacting our needs. with that in mind we are looking at creating a brand new support service to help with unpicking the emotional side of being a dog guardian.
Atttached is a short form which unpicks a little of this. Please take a few minutes to complete and return. Many Thanks Mandy

Puppy Blues
You have waited for your new pup, done the shopping. It’s a thing, right? All those cute toys and pretty leads, every kind of treat and multiple beds? The videos of him playing with his family are heart melting.
You are ready! You plan the journey with great care, crate, toys, p*e stops, someone sitting with him to reassure. You get home and this is it! So much excitement!
Fast forward 2 weeks. You’ve had hardly any sleep for 14 days and nights. Your back has seized from the sofa bed. Your house looks like a bomb dropped and has a lingering smell of p*e where you cant quite find every one of the puddles.
Your hands look like you’ve fought with a shark. your clothes are a little misshaped. You haven’t p*e’d or showered without a chorus of “Don’t Leave me”.
That’s when it hits… “what in earth was I thinking?”, “what have we done?”, “will I ever sleep again?” “I’ve tried EVERYTHING, nothing works”.
Here is a Message to all puppy guardians, all these problems are a normal ride for puppy families in the first few weeks (or months). Its also perfectly normal to regret your decision to add a puppy to your family. It IS tough.
Just like parents say about a new baby (and this is really what they are) we forget the hard bits once we have the wonderful bits in our memories.
Puppy Blues doesn’t last long usually, especially when we get some support. Emotional and practical support for the human family and some practical learning for helping the Puppy understand your world can make all the difference to our own emotional experience and the puppies!
This is when a great Holisitic puppy trainer is invaluable. One that starts from day 1 (or before) with support before formal “training”. But often they are busy when we need that emergency emotional help. You can get a brilliant session or class and a plan for learning and training the behaviours you want, but sometimes get left to your own devices and feel a bit alone.
What if there was a Puppy Support Nanny ? Someone to hear your puppy blues. Listen to the problems you encounter? Help you to understand what you can do for your own sanity? Working alongside or with your puppy trainer if you have one, or being your first support before Puppy classes begin?
Mandy at Peaceful People & Peaceful Dogs can help! You are not alone.
Offering an electronic one stop shop for those first few weeks and months to support the Human side of Puppy Learning. You will have access to a closed Facebook Group full of resources and general support, curated from the very best positive and kind canine specialists worldwide. You will get an opportunity to chat via phone, zoom , email or Whats App within working hours. We can put you in touch with the best trainers for the practical training for your puppy. We will get together small groups of Puppy families for get togethers and chats .
We offer an initial 15 min free Emotional First Aid call for instant help and reassurance and ongoing support bespoke to needs.
I look forward to hearing from you.

KAD - Kids Around Dogs
Fear of dog protocol.
This little boy is very worried about dogs. It’s impacting the family because he couldnt go for tea or sleepovers and hated the park and walking to school.
In just a few (zoom) sessions his confidence has soared and he’s planning a sleepover!!
I got this message and this story this evening
“thank you Mandy for all your support so far. I see that he is more positive about dogs and he always looks forward to his sessions with you”.
If you would like to know more about Kids Around Dogs, Fear of Dogs and our zoom sessions please send a message to see how we can help.

Proud to say I value every one of these. I’d add some. One is confident to refer to a trusted ethical team. Also dog centred WHOLEistic care- understanding and using the relationship between all aspects of a dogs existence. I’m sure there are more!

As you know Ronnie is a new puppy. Only 13 weeks. This is an ideal time to get him engaged with having fun. Those games often have a learning purpose.
Here is our first go at a “rattle pot recall”. We played a rattle and reward game so he knew what happened when he heard the sound and then this is his first session.
Raw. No editing!
Just him me and Lola too having some fun. I’m not looking at obedience with my tiny pup just him enjoying being with me and getting real life responses. It can be smartened up when and if it needs to be.
Rattle pot recall is a brilliant way to cut through distractions. It takes baby pups a second or two to process if they are engaged elsewhere - like Ronnie in his pool but he soon clocked what I was waiting for and he came flying.
enrichment fun
enrichment fun
It’s so hot today. So I took advantage of some leftover meat and veg to create some enrichment and training food. The training today was around boundaries for duration and also the distractions of the garden ( in the shade). We have pesky pigeons and some barking dogs. This is a massive distraction. Once this is secure our next step is turn taking.
Heidi has brilliant focus ! She is learning to think and work out what to do. She has done so well for her second week with us at DogSchool !
A brilliant first go at learning the first steps for “peekaboo” or “middle “. This is only the second time Charlie has been to DogSchool - great work !
Peekaboo with Rhubarb
More peekaboo ! Well done Bainesy.
I love helping out with Hilton Dogs Puppy School. This week I learned how to teach “peekaboo” ( aka middle) and the wonderful puppies and their people did a fabulous job in just a few minutes. Training anything is best learned in 2-5 min sessions followed by play and sleep. We know our pups sleep well after our classes! Hope you love their great work!
Some of our work in the engage disengage game last week in Magic Monday’s. Just amazing focus around other dogs.
Peggy joined our Magic Monday’s a little later. She had a little catch up to do and her over excitement was evident at first. Her mum however made up time by working extra hard and boy it is paying off. 🙌🏻. Her worry and excitement of other dogs being near has decreased as her focus on fun has increased. Her focus is brilliant even with other dogs close by. Well done guys.
Beautiful Luna and her mum Sue. Sue is a great focused trainer. Luna has a strong sense of protecting her personal space! She also had the challenge of losing a doggy family member causing her whole family some grief. But through their commitment to this fun games based learning they have both become optimistic with an even closer focused working partnership which is helping Luna to shrink her personal bubble. A brilliant outcome. Keep it up !
Huxley struggles with dogs being close by just a few weeks ago. Today he was focused and enjoying working together with Amanda. Well done both of you. You have put so much into practice. I look forward to seeing your adventures!
Bella focussed in her Magical fun!
After 5 weeks of amazing dedication and commitment today two of our class for dogs with reactive behaviours got to work together. In each other’s eyesight. It was inspiring. It was only the weather that prevented the other two having a similar experience.
Max was very reactive to dogs and is a strong boy. Style the rescue greyhound was reactive to most things that move and out of her previous experiences ( most things) she was a little shutdown in other ways and struggled to learn or play. Today she is really still and ambivalent because she wants to play with the toys we had!
Well done Style and Karen and Rachel and Sam and Max. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🦄🦄🦄
