Do you ride Bridleways, or other routes within Taunton Deane?

We're looking for new Committee members to join us.

The Committee meets once a month remotely to review our ongoing issues log, as well as to discuss new issues.

We work alongside the local authorities to try to keep rights of way for horses open, and useable.

We also aim to organise events which support our members, local riders, and raise funds which go back into local routes.

Please DM us if you can support us and join the Committee in completing this valuable work.

Please join us in saying "good luck and bon voyage!" to our Treasurer and Queen of Trec Dominique who is leaving us at the end of April.

Domi has been an integral part of the Committee for over 5yrs.

As well as taking care of the finances of the Association she could often be seen with her camera taking beautiful shots at our events, or with some kind of garden tool clearing a fun ride route or waving a clipboard around.

We wish you all the best for the future, and are thankful for your contribution over the years!

We'll miss you so much.

There seems to have been a spate of high profile road incidents recently.

Do you have the BHS Horse i App?

It's easy to download and keep on your phone.

It's important to report incidents, not just road related.

What counts as an incident?

Any unplanned incident that has:

* resulted in a rider or handler feeling concerned
* resulting in a horse being unsettled in any way
*the potential to cause injury (even if it hasn't this time)
*already caused injury to rider, handler or horse

Why is it important to report incidents?

The reports build up a data source which can be used as evidence when called upon on local matters of access, and reasons to install road safety signs, or maintain bridleways.

As the largest and most influential equestrian charity in the UK, we make a real impact to the lives of horses and people who care about them by working to improve education, welfare, access and safety

You may have seen posts today publicising the move by Forestry England to remove the requirement for permitted riding in most of their woodland.

In the local area King Cliff is the only designated area for informal riding in a woodland without a permit listed in their website for our local area.

We’re not sure that’s much of a change but it’s nice to know officially it can be ridden!

https://www.forestryengland.uk/kings-cliff/horse-riding-kings-cliff?

Horse riders are welcome to explore Kings Cliff, where tracks wind their way through a diverse and beautiful range of habitats. There is also a bridleway running from the east to the west of the forest. We recommend OS Explorer 128 for public rights of way and forest roads. You do not need a permit....

How are everyone's bridleways doing this winter?

The committee are planning areas to focus on at the moment and as always we're eager to know where our funds could be best spent.

If you have any issues please let us know.

We are able to manage enquiries and issues via ROAM for association members.

As we head towards the end of winter, our fields and pastures are feeling the strain of wet and cold weather. 😓 If your land is looking a little worse for wear, we’ve got the perfect opportunity for you!

Join us on 3rd March at 7:30pm for an online event with Agronomist Adam North of Pearce Seeds. Learn how to optimise your land for better grazing and forage production this spring. 🌿🌸

We’ll cover:
✅ Soil & nutrient requirements
✅ Choosing the best grasses for your pasture
✅ Managing toxic weeds safely
✅ Mechanical aids for pasture recovery

Whether you manage land, own a property, or are training for your Stage 3 Care Assessment, this evening will have valuable insights for you. 🙌

💡 Bonus: This event counts as 2 CPD points for BHS Accredited Professional Coaches! 🏅

Note the changes to parking at Great wood.

We’re trying to ascertain the expected arrangements for horse riders - so if anyone knows please share here!

From today we have a new parking system at Great Wood. Our new system uses automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology and will allow us to operate more efficiently.

You’ll still pay for your parking when you arrive, but you don’t need to display a ticket anymore as your vehicle registration will be captured on your way in and out of the car park. The machines can accept payment by card or contactless, no need for apps or phone signal.

Forestry England members, please make sure your vehicle registrations are up to date in your online account as we aren’t checking your window sticker anymore https://boxoffice.forestryengland.uk/ClientRequiredFallback.aspx?view=Login&next=~%2fCrmDetails.aspx

The money from your car parking charge is essential for us to maintain visitor facilities, such as walking, toilets, and the car park. Thank you for your ongoing support

Wind Down Woods
We are happy to announce that Wind Down Woods is now officially re-open!

The current storms and wet weather have made the clear-up operations challenging. Please note that there are still some fallen trees across some of the smaller tracks, which we will endeavour to clear when we can. For now, enjoy your local woodland once again!
