We are a traditional privately run practice that has excellent links within the local community. We visit local schools and clubs to talk about our work and encourage people to see what goes on ‘behind the scenes’. At Kingfisher Vets we are proud to have a strong team of dedicated small animal vets and nurses. We will care for you and your pets in a friendly and professional manner and because we

Today is National Kitten Day 😻😻

Getting a kitten can be an exciting time 😸
Kittens are incredibly cute and a lot of fun to be around, but there's a lot to think about prior to bringing a new kitten home 🏡

💔To avoid any heartache consider:

🐈‍⬛The kitten's home/living environment - is it clean?

🐈‍⬛ Can the kitten be seen with their mother and/or siblings? If so, do they seem relaxed around people and well cared for?

🐈‍⬛The kitten's age - they should not be homed before they are 8-12 weeks of age

🐈‍⬛Does the kitten look healthy? Clean eyes, nose, ears, bottom? Normal weight? No diarrhoea?

🐈‍⬛Has the kitten been properly socialised with humans and other animals? (depending on the new home environment)

🐈‍⬛Has the kitten been habituated to household noises/appliances such as washing machines, vacuum cleaners, televisions, door bells etc?

🐈‍⬛Has the kitten been given preventive healthcare such as vaccinations, flea and worm treatment? Can you see their vaccination or health card/documents?

👏Many breeders and rescue centres will microchip kittens (kittens will need to be microchipped by law from 10th June 2024). Some will also offer 4 weeks of free insurance too.

🐱Depending on the kitten's age, they may also be neutered. Some rescue centres will cover the cost of neutering too.

Lastly, it's important to remember that although there's no denying how cute kittens are, there are thousands of adult cats in rescue centres looking for loving homes too ❤️🏡

Sadly a brown and white whippet has slipped their harness and ran off from kingfisher vets Martock. He is very nervous, please do not approach but contact the vets with sightings, so the owner can be informed and approach him. Please call 01935 825199.
