‘At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them.’ - The Fallen, by Robert Laurence Binyon.

On this Remembrance day, we remember all those, whether they be human, equine or other service animals, who've given their lives in service of their country.

A simple half wrap or figure-8 wrap using a soft bandage, scarf, or Thundershirt can help your dog feel more secure and calm by giving gentle, reassuring pressure 💕
The figure 8 wrap for dog anxiety works by applying gentle, constant pressure to the dog's torso, which acts as a calming "hug" and stimulates the release of endorphins, or natural calming chemicals, in the brain. This deep pressure stimulation is a technique used in both animals and humans (similar to swaddling an infant or using a weighted blanket) to help soothe the nervous system and reduce stress responses to triggers like fireworks.
Try it before the noise of fireworks, storms or the Christmas shenanigans begin, to help them settle safely no matter what the trigger 🐶✨

With Bonfire Night just around the corner, now is the time to prepare for a stress-free time for your rabbits.

To help keep them calm, ideally your rabbits should be inside the house with you, but if that isn’t possible then please make sure to soundproof their outdoor housing.

Adding extra bedding straw and covering the enclosure with blankets or tarps (available at garden centres) can help reduce noise and block out any flashing lights that might frighten them.

Providing your rabbits with extra activities and toys can also help keep them occupied throughout the night.

If you're hosting a bonfire party, remember that rabbits can get really nervous around unfamiliar humans, especially where there's lots of noise and bustle. Plan to move them to a quieter spot, such as a garage or an unheated room, where they'll be shielded from unfamiliar sounds and smells.

Don't forget: pumpkin is toxic to hedgehogs! ⚠️🎃🦔

You might think to leave your leftover pumpkins from Halloween on the ground in gardens, parks and green spaces for animals to eat. While not harmful to birds or squirrels, they can be incredibly dangerous for hedgehogs.

Hedgehogs tend to eat anything they find, including discarded pumpkins. But once eaten, pumpkin can cause severe diarrhoea, which will lead to dehydration and even death! Discarded pumpkins can also attract rats, smother wild plants and grasses and lead to the growth of invasive plants.

✅ Instead of leaving your old pumpkins in your garden or local park, dispose of them properly by placing them in your food recycling bin or your own personal compost heap. Alternatively, you can turn them into pumpkin bread, muffins or soup, or roast them and turn them into pumpkin seed snacks for bird feeders.
