Hi all,

I'm getting quite a few enquiries so thought I'd pop an update on.

I'm not trading at the moment as a coach. Life got very busy and sad last year and I've taken a step back from a few of my responsibilities to let myself get back in my own head space.

I am however always happy to come along on social runs and help people out.

Hope life's treating everyone kindly! B xx

Hello,

I just thought I'd update everyone and appologise for not being super present on the phone or in the centre recently.

Unfortunately on the 20th of May our Grandfather (Gags) passed away after a few weeks in the hospital. We spent as much time as possible visiting him and popping in on Granny.

I'd like to thank everyone for their patience and their kindness at this sad time. We said our goodbyes on Wednesday and now aim to get back to work and day to day life. (Albeit probably a slow process.)

Special thanks to our whole family who pulled together beautifully to keep eachother going and to Ryan especially for helping to keep the hydro going while we were distracted.

Love to everyone. Please let me know if you need me for anything or if I've missed anything over the last few weeks. Thanks for bearing with us. B xx

Shropshire Canicross is all about the dogs.

If you're looking for advice on -

🐾 Correct harnesses and Belts.
🐾 Gait analysis and your dogs suitability for the sport.
🐾 Wanting to understand more about what fatigue looks like for your specific dog.
🐾 Warm ups and cool downs to keep you and your dogs safe.
🐾 Suitable distances and terrains.
🐾 Basically anything dogs because I'm obsessed.

We're your girls. If we don't know the answers we'll find them or find someone who does to point you at.

Kahli hound is a wonderful mentor for other dogs. She loves to play but she takes her job seriously too. She can help encourage other dogs to pull out front. She can provide an example for other dogs to follow and learn from.

We're a friendly pair. Drop a message if you're interested in learning about Canicross!

B and Kahl xx

Welcome to our '8 Key Cues to Train for Canicross' series, starting with 'Go On'

You can use whatever cue you like to train your dog but if you're going to be canicrossing with your dog, you do need to teach them to pull on cue πŸΎπŸ•πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

A pull cue is something all of our coaches will be able to help you to train and is one of the most often missed verbal cues when people are starting out because it's assumed a dog will know to pull when they run!

If your dog is clear about what you are asking of them, it will make it easier to train the difference between pulling for canicross and walking nicely πŸ€—

A throwback to when Mr Bails was still enjoying himself an evening trott.

Bails is now 12 years old and ticking along happily despite his arthritis and various joint problems. He might join us for a canihike session one of the days. πŸ’œ

Some dogs don't want to pull out front on runs and that's fine. We use slightly different equipment and just enjoy being out and about with them. 🧑

Bails adds the extra cute factor cause he always likes to hold the line when he trots. 😍 He's got me and I've got him!

In this series of posts we will be giving our Top Tips for Canicross, but also what you can expect if you attend sessions with any of our Certified or Qualified Canicross Coaches.

Top Tip #3 COMMANDS OR VOICE CUES. As our canicross dogs run ahead of us they need to be responsive to a series of commands, or voice cues. Whether you use traditional sled dog cues such as Gee and Haw or Left and Right, is up to you, but you will need to teach these, along with those associated with changes of pace. Our Canicross Coaches will help you to establish these, and give a number of strategies that can be used both in sessions and at home to consolidate.

Top Tip #1 WARM UP!. Right at the very start of Canicross Coach we included Warm ups in all our sessions, for both dogs and humans; an essential part of avoiding injury. They prepare the human and canine body for the work ahead. Our coaches will match the warm up activities to the focus of the session, so you might find yourself doing agility ladders ahead of a technical run!
