This is just your Easter reminder that 🐇

Unfortunately in todays society rabbits are now associated with Easter, meaning that many people this time of year will go out and buy a rabbit as an Easter gift not understanding the special care that they require. Many of these rabbits then fall into the hands of a rescue or sold online once the novelty has worn off, often left with health issues, not vaccinated, spayed or neutered. Rabbits are already facing a real crisis at the moment as it is without more people buying them as Easter gifts.

Please understand that rabbits are a 10+ year life long commitment and are delicate beings who need special care. They need a suitable diet, a constantly supply of fresh hay, enrichment, companionship of their own kind, suitable housing requirements (being kept in small cages and hutches is not enough), specialist care with a specialist vet, yearly vaccinations to prevent them from deadly diseases, regular grooming and the list goes on.

It’s also important that if you are serious about opening up your home to rabbit that you adopt and not shop. Rescues will make sure that all rabbits before leaving are up to date with vaccinations, have been neutered or spayed and have had health checks. Pet stores or any kind of breeders who try to sell and make profit from individuals do not have their best interest in making sure that rabbits are vaccinated, neutered or spayed before going off to their new homes, and often send them off in unsuitable enclosures.

We still have many rabbits on our waiting list that we have had to put a halt on at the moment because we just don’t have enough funds. Again, many of them are uneutered/spayed, unvaccinated and are likely to have other health issues going on. With the costs going up we have been able to help less rabbits, but have been trying to help the best when and where we can. It would be IRRESPONSIBLE of us to take on more than we can when we are already struggling with funds.

Please understand the importance of adopting. It is places like breeders are pet stores who are the root cause for many rabbits and other animals who are suffering right now. This needs to stop and it MUST stop.

River became a mummy and had a perfect birth earlier this morning to 3 tiny little boys! ❤️

I wanted to use little Felix as a opportunity to remind owners to please be open when you send your bun to a rescue to be bonded!
Please be open to trying other bunnies if the first rabbit you try doesn’t work out.
Please don’t feel discouraged or give up completely.
Rabbits aren’t always going to fall in love with the first rabbit they meet! Give them a chance and let them choose who they come home with!

Felix met little kimmie initially, and it was absolutely neither of their fault that they didn’t bond, they just simply didn’t want to be freinds!

We then tried Audrey with felix, and it was love at first sight!❤️

And although felix’s second attempt did work, please know that sometimes it takes multiple. sometimes 3 sometimes 4 and sometimes more different attempts with different bunnies. No rabbit is ever unbondable, you just need to find the right bun!
Every bunny deserves somebunny! 🤍🐰

Hutches were designed over 1500 years ago for the sole purpose of meat rabbits. There isn’t enough room for them to move around, therefore easier to “fatten up”. Yet still, in 2025 we are still receiving applications for rabbits to live in them.

Hutches subject rabbits to a really miserable existence and we are huge advocates for rabbit welfare here at Jackson’s and that’s why we would never re home rabbits to any less than the RWAF guidelines (3m by 2m) for a pair of rabbits.

We rescue rabbits from hutches, we would never allow them to go back to that life 💔

Cynthia had a very successful spay and lump removal on Tuesday! All removed through the one incision!
Naomi doesn’t think the lump was anything nasty but it is being sent to a lab anyway to confirm 🙏🏼

Cynthia Is recovering amazingly, and if lab results come back with good news she will be available for adoption and ready to bond in 7-8 weeks time 🥹❤️

Her vets bill was pretty significant, we payed off the rest of her main bill today, however we still need to pay roughly £200 to have her lump sent to the lab, and we would be very very grateful for any donations towards this. No matter how little I promise it goes a long way!

When it rains it pours! 😞
We did our weekly health checks on the sanctuary pigs yesterday and 3 of our girls had to see Naomi today.

First up we have sage, sage has an ear infection, she’s got a noticeable head tilt, an ear filled with discharge and she’s also got a very ulcerated eye. Naomi is fairly confident she’ll be able to save the eye as we caught it early and hopefully we can get on top of the infection and her head tilt will get better 🙏🏼
She’s very uncomfortable at the moment and is on antibiotics, pain meds and also eye drops.
Sage is going back to see Naomi in a weeks time, hopefully she’ll have improved by then and otherwise we will discuss the next course of action.

Next is lila, she joined us some time ago with her sister from an unfortunate situation, they’re two oap girls who needed a retirement home of their own and so they joined our sanctuary herd. Whilst everyone in the herd are usually very peaceful Unfortunately it seems lila has been picked on recently, two of her small bite wounds have resulted in abscesses.
She’s having these cleaned twice daily, she is also on pain meds and antibiotics. And again will see Naomi next week to re-evaluate.

Last but not least is river. you may recognise her! She came to us in January within a group of 11 piggies from a very big animal hoarder.
River and the other girls were living with boys and so they have been on pregnancy watch since they got here. River is on day 57 of being with us, typically Guinea pigs are pregnant for 59-72 days and she is very almost ready to pop. ❤️‍🩹
Unfortunately river has acquired hay poke and this has left her with a little ulcer, she is on some eye drops for this and hopefully we will see it clear up in a few days!

River is so far the only girl out of the 6 who has visible signs of being pregnant, and hopefully she is the only one!
We don’t know anything about river, we don’t know how old she is but all we can hope for is a smooth delivery and in the end a healthy momma and baby’s. 🙏🏼

In a few weeks the pregnancy watch will be over and the other girls will be finally ready for their forever homes ❤️

Trios and groups for the win! ❤️🙌🏼

I’ve started bonding Togs with Ned and Roger and I thought this would be a great opportunity to advocate for trio’s! Trio’s are much preferred, by me, than pairs.

Pairs of rabbits are the most overlooked in rescue and this is a reflection by how many pairs we always seem to have available to adopt.
