Opportunist boarders and daycare providers are popping up more frequently on social media in the Telford and Shropshire area. I’m having this conversation more frequently with potential customers about licensing.

Please, please remember that whoever you use to care for your dog they MUST have a licence and show it to you on demand. We all have a unique licence number so feel free to ask for it and then check with your local council that it’s a valid and in-date. If they can’t provide this it’s a red flag 🚩 🚩 and you should avoid at all costs! They are boarding your pet illegally and should be reported to the Council.

Equally, don’t be misled by being told the provider isn’t running a commercial business. This only applies if they earn less than £1000 a year. It doesn’t take a genius to work out that unless they’re charging £1 per dog that figure will be exceeded very quickly.

It’s my wish that dog owners should be as informed as possible on the legality’s of dog boarding and daycare. It puts you in the driving seat, allowing you to make the right decisions over who you choose to care for your beloved pet.

Life at ‘Chez Phillips’ over the last couple of days. There’s been playing, there’s been sleeping and a lot of love and cuddles in between😁

It’s with completely broken hearts that Tony and I want to let you all know that our beautiful girl Binky went to sleep today at 11.47am, 17th Feb 2024 aged 7 years old.

She was diagnosed with lymphoma early Feb and while we knew we didn’t have long with her, she took a sudden downturn this morning and left us much sooner than we expected.

She chose her Daddy’s 48th birthday to leave us so she wanted to make sure we’d never forget, as if we ever could.

Binky came to us at 8 months old and was our ever-patient, good natured helper. Mama to all the pups that came through the door and the loudest snorer ever. Boy am I going to miss that noise!

Thank you everyone for your lovely words over this past few weeks. We are blessed to have a houseful of other people dogs to care for and not an empty home, which helps to soothe mine and Tony’s shattered hearts. 💔💔

I’ve put up some photos of Binks for you to smile over, doing what she enjoyed doing the most; sleeping, napping and dozing. ###

Our Story

Kerrina’s Canine Care is me Kerrina, and my husband Tony. This Company was borne out of a love of dogs (we’ve had dogs of our own for over 20 years) and we thrive on caring for their needs.

We are proud to be a small family business providing hands on, safe and loving care for your pet. Our speciality is in providing a fun, home-from-home environment with 24 hour care. We only take on a few dogs at a time to give them our full care and attention. We are particularly experienced at dealing with puppies and elderly dogs who have additional health requirements.

We are proud to be licensed and 4 star rated by Telford and Wrekin Council – licence No. BTWAWL022 and passed an audit on 8th November 2019 proving we meet the strict standards of DEFRA’s Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations governing providers of dog home boarding.

Tony holds a certificate in Canine First Aid, and I hold an AIM Level 2 qualification in Canine Welfare and Behaviour. DBS checked.
