‼️ RAFFLE FOR OUR NEW KENNEL HEATER! ‼️

One of our kennel heaters unfortunately gave up the ghost last night and so now we’re looking to replace and also upgrade to a more efficient heater. The heater must be industrial for our main kennel block which houses 20 dogs and after looking at a few different options, we’ve decided on a kerosene hot air heater. The heating unit, ducting, heating oil and installation sadly is quite costly and will be around £5,000.

We’ve set up this raffle to start the ball rolling thanks to some lovely Christmas prizes donated once again by Julie Burgwin.

“I'll be home for Christmas," a song so sweet,
Yet in chapo’s world, no home to meet.
Eighteen months old, he waits alone,
A tale untold, a heart to be shown.🏡 🎄

No fireplace warmth, no festive cheer,
Just the longing gaze of eyes so clear.
Chapo dreams of a place to rest,
A home, a haven, where he is blessed. 🤍

But time is fleeting, a hurried race,
He needs a home, a warm embrace.
So, hear this plea, with love untold,
Bring Chapo home before winter's cold.

Chapo is an 18 month old bully cross. He was saved on his last day in the pound. He is a light framed, leggy boy who loves everyone he meets - dog or human. Due to Chapo’s dimensions he may fit into the XL Bully criteria, so it is really is urgent that he finds a home by 30th December.
We will cover the costs of the exemption process for any willing owner.
Chapo seems to be good with other dogs but is still being assessed. He needs a cat free home.

He only gets one chance at success and we don't have enough time to make proper introductions to additional family members i.e kids and other pets, so we can ONLY consider homes with:

We will cover the costs of getting a Certificate of Exemption for these dogs, waiver the adoption fee, and provide 3 years of free routine vet checks, non-emergency surgery and cost price medicines with our vet at the Liverpool rescue. We will of course support you to support them for as long as you want us to.

About the XL Bully Type Ban

For us, on the 31st December the XL Bully Type Ban will prevent us all being able to move or rehome dogs that meet the broad criteria put forward by the Government.
**We have just 5 SHORT WEEKS left to get forever homes for at risk dogs Moose, Dexter, Sonny and Aura – we have glimmers of tentative hope at the moment for Aura and Dexter but no back up so still enquire for them please.

The current official position is unconfirmed that rescues will be allowed to exempt and keep the dogs in sanctuary. Until we hear differently, we cannot risk assuming that we can. If the option is confirmed, this would still be a poor outcome for the dogs as it a very serious well-being issue for them, as we are not set up with the facilities we would expect for lifelong sanctuary. A kennel is no substitute for a proper stable home. It could also put 4 kennels out of action for around 10 years, resulting in a real risk to life for the hundreds of dogs that we’ll need to turn away as a direct result.

Vets and vet nurses do not want to put healthy dogs to sleep, this will go against everything they have studied and trained for. The government have put the whole profession under immense pressure, both with the short timeline for neutering and the Bully "scrappage scheme"

The XL bully ban presents unique challenges – particularly in situations where vets may be called upon to euthanise an otherwise healthy XL bully-type dog in certain circumstances, and we’re concerned about the emotional toll of this on our people.

“Under RCVS guidance, vets cannot be compelled to euthanise a healthy animal, and all vets have the right to refuse to conduct a euthanasia in those circumstances if they choose.

“All our vets and vet nurses are always supported in their decision-making for each individual situation.”

We will go to bed at some point tonight broken and in despair. We just cannot keep up.

5 puppies dumped today and 7 others we had to take as emergencies, and we’ve been begged for help for 3 litters totalling 27 XL bully pups born in the last week.

The ban was announced in September. Breeders have had time to make plans. How can we keep trying to pick up other people’s mess in these numbers? Why is no one taking responsibility? What do people think will happen when unneutered male and female dogs are left together?

We are also still seeing breeders online still trying to make money from their puppies. We don’t even have the energy to say what kind of people they must be.

We will help any dog we can. We will always prioritise the most vulnerable. But we can’t work miracles. We are absolutely distraught. Our staff are in pieces. Please just STOP 😔 Take responsibility. These babies and their mums do not deserve this and we can’t save them all 💔 they are not your possessions to use and discard. We can’t keep fixing this. Where do we go from here 😔💔
