If you've ever encountered a cat strolling about Hoo Zoo and pondered, "How did it get in here?" or admired one, thinking, "Isn't she lovely? I might rescue her and bring her home" (and no, these scenarios aren't hypothetical – some of you have genuinely attempted to take our cats!), then this message is for you! And even if you haven't entertained these thoughts but simply adore cats, read on...

We have 8 cats residing with us at the zoo, and none of them are strays! Each feline has been rescued for various reasons and now enjoys living with us, receiving care and the freedom to roam the zoo, forming connections with visitors like you!

While we've introduced 6 of them (scroll back through our feed to see them), it's now time for a formal introduction to another one!

🐾 My name is Oreo. I was adopted by the Hoo Zoo owners along with my friend, Sheldon, in 2022 from a local rescue. I'm free roaming and am quite shy around strangers so won't often be amongst people but if I am then feel free to say hi 🐾

Tom finally got the shot of our (ironically named) common spotted genet after years of trying... And what a shot it is! 😍

"The funny thing is this little species has been a BIG pain for me to photograph the last couple of years. Being nocturnal trying to catch them out and about for a start is like looking for gold, you have to be in the right place at the right time. Secondly I was starting my to think the species just had something against me" .jones.photography

In the spotlight for our fifth post is the affectionately named Betty Binbag!

🐾 My name is Betty. I was adopted by the owners of Hoo Zoo from a local rescue in 2017 after I'd been found as a kitten rummaging in bin bags (hence my full name - Betty Binbag). I am free roaming but my favourite space is near the play areas. I like to be left alone so please let me approach you as I can tell people off 🐾

Hoo Zoo is home to 8 free-roaming feline friends, and let mus assure you, none of them are strays! Each one has a unique rescue story, finding a forever home with us.

So far we have introduced you to 4 of them (check out our feed for the adorable introductions). But today, it's time to shine the spotlight on another remarkable companion!

🐾 Hi, I'm Raven, rescued in 2015 as a tiny 2-week-old kitten alongside my sister Storm. Abandoned at a local factory, we found solace and love here at Hoo Zoo. While I may not always fancy being picked up, I absolutely love a good fuss! Find me near the Acton barn, soaking in the zoo vibes. 🐾

So, if you've ever wondered about the stories behind the cats roaming free atHoo Zoo, or if you're just a cat lover at heart, this is your chance to get to know us better!

🐾 Hi my name is Storm. I was rescued by the owners of Hoo Zoo in 2015 as a 2 week old kitten after my brother (Raven) and I were found abandoned at a local factory. I love cuddles but will often suckle on fleece jackets! I am free roaming but you'll often find me near the staff areas. 🐾

We have 8 cats living with us here at the zoo - non of them are strays! Each one has been rescued for one reason or another, and now live with us here where they're looked after and given the freedom to roam around the zoo, some making friends with people like you!

We've introduced 2 of them (scroll back through our feed to see them) but now we think it's about time for you to formally meet another!

"Hi I'm Oli and I'm a Savannah cat F7. I was donated to Hoo Zoo in 2019 after my previous owner became ill and could no longer look after me. I am very friendly - you might be able to spot me hanging out around the benches by the marmosets!"

Don't forget to grab yourself some animal food from our shop before you venture out to see our animals! You can hand feed our goats, sheep, deer, poultry, llamas, porcupine and wallabies - we have it on good authority you can make friends MUCH faster when food is involved 😉

(Please do not feed our animals anything else as it can make them poorly!)

Last week you met Lilo, one of the many rescued cats living here with us at Hoo Zoo.

Now we'd like to introduce you to Lilo's partner in crime... Stitch!

🐾 My name is Stitch. I was donated to Hoo Zoo along with my sister, Lilo, in 2020 after my previous owner could no longer look after me. I am very nervous so please do not approach me as I will hide 🐾

Both Lilo and Stitch are nervous cats, so please keep your distance if you see them during your visit - usually by the team room.

Stay tuned to meet more of our resident furballs, and find out which ones will welcome a cuddle, and which ones prefer to be admired from a distance 🥰

Come and take a walk through Lemur Forrest with our pretty striped tail friends! 🥰

This walk-through enclosure is included with your general admissions ticket and is one of the best ways to see our amazing residents up close!
