We started a story recently with Casper’s snoot, all ready for booping.
We are more than happy to say that since that photo was taken, he has been treated, made a full recovery and is back to his usual mischievous self!
Unfortunately his mischief is what created the problem in the first place as he had been eating things he shouldn’t……
When Casper came in to see us, he was unable to keep either food or water down without being sick and a firm “something” could be felt in his abdomen, where there shouldn’t BE any “firm somethings”.
An X-ray confirmed a blockage, surgery to remove the offending item went like a dream and Casper was home again the next day.
We still haven’t been able to work out what it was he ate though?! Any suggestions???
Isn’t Truffle just picture perfect??
She came to see us for some surgery recently and we still can’t over her amazing eyebrows! 😍
Mylo was angelic when he came in for his vaccination this week, and was more than happy to strike a pose too! 😍😍😍
UPDATE - REUNITED
⚠️ MISSING CAT⚠️
Trinity has been missing from the Trench area of Telford since Tuesday.
She is black and white, microchipped and wearing a grey collar and her family are very worried about her as she never usually strays far.
Please keep a look out for her and contact the practice if you see her.
Her family desperately want her home.
Good morning world!
Here’s hoping you have your day planned out like Kitkat today 🙌🏻
⭐️ Maisie ⭐️
Cute little Maisie came in recently for the 2nd part of her puppy vaccination course. This means she is protected against lots of nasties, including Parvovirus, Distemper, Hepatitis and 4 strains of Leptospirosis for the next 12 months.
She was very excited to be here and happy to give lots of kisses and cuddles to anyone who wanted them. 🥰
We're looking forward to seeing more of Maisie as she grows
⚠️MISSING⚠️
Please share so we can get Giles home
Giles (Stripe) is very special to our receptionist Evie and is missing from Oakengates
Neutered male, Maine c**n cross, is microchipped but no collar. Black & white with white stripe down his nose.
Please keep an eye out for him and contact the practice via phone or here ASAP if you see him or have any sightings.
*Computer issues*
We are currently experiencing a computer system fault
If you have any emergencies please continue to call us on 01952 270115.
We hope to be up and running shortly but please bear with us.
Strudel got to have his first snoozy/snuggly cuddles with the WHOLE team last week.
Safe to say we’re all looking forward to having more with him over the years. 🤗🥰
That yawn says it all!
As a very affectionate yet inquisitive little kitten, Merlin looks like he’s going to be one to watch!
Do you know how to spot blue-green algae?
Exposure to blue-green algae can cause long-term health problems in pets and can even be fatal. By drinking from or swimming in contaminated water, pets are at a high risk of becoming seriously ill.
Contact your vet immediately if you think your pet is at risk of blue-green algae poisoning. For more information of what to look out for and how to protect your pet, read our advice article here: https://bit.ly/3LqTmA4
It’s been an awesome week for puppy cuddles and photos this week. So much so, it’s been hard to choose the best pics. Well let you decide which is Wilma’s ‘best side’ for us instead. 🥰

Don’t forget to Boop the Snoot!
Casper has an interesting story to tell, all about the mischief he has been up to!
Watch this space!
When your operating week ends with a spay on a dog as lovely as Doris, what else could you ask for??
Over the summer, our vets see a lot of dogs who have issues because of grass seeds. It is important to contact your vet immediately if you suspect your dog has an injury caused by a grass seed.
If walking your dog in long grass or woodland areas, we recommend checking your dog over and brushing away any grass seeds after the walk is done. Pay particular attention to paws, ears, eyes, and armpits.
To learn more about grass seeds, and our four simple steps for dealing with them, read our helpful advice article here: https://bit.ly/3zAdaOP
And the answer is…..
Hedgehog!
Give him a High Five!
Here’s Rory and Binky!
Although Binky wanted to photobomb her brother at every opportunity (see Thursday), we still think they took a lovely photo together, don’t you??
Quiz Time!!
Want to try and guess what species this paw comes from??
Answers next week!
Do you have questions about neutering your cat? It's something we strongly advise as it has many benefits for them and helps to tackle the number of stray cats in the UK.
Female cats will benefit from reduced risk of unwanted pregnancy, certain health conditions and even certain types of cancer. For male cats, neutering reduces their urge to fight other males, lessening the chance of certain diseases, and it also means they are less likely to mark their territory around your home.

When someone is trying to take a photo of your brother, but that’s just not good enough!
Stay tuned for the final photo at the weekend….. 😎
‼️‼️‼️Brief Service Disruption‼️‼️‼️
The practice is having some essential electrical work done this morning (new meter) and so we will be without any power for around an hour, starting late morning.
Please be aware that during this time the practice will be closed for consults, medication collections, and phone calls.
All calls will diverted to our Shrewsbury Hospital who can still assist while our phones are down, though we are promised that the down-time will be less than an hour.
Please bear with us until we are up and running again. 👍🏻
When you wear your heart on your nose, instead of your sleeve, but still have the potential for total mischief too. 😍😍😍
Meet Rocky!
It’s important to keep your pet hydrated all year round as it delivers lots of benefits to your pets health, but especially during the warmer months. Cats and dogs both sweat through their paw pads, so as they’ll do this more now it’s hot, they will need to be provided with more fresh water. 💧
Read our tips below on keeping your pet hydrated and how to spot the symptoms of dehydration in your dog, cat or rabbit.

This applies to pets too.
Please let’s not have any heat stroke cases this week 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Fluffy, cuddly, sweet. What more could we ask for?
Pets can develop skin allergies at any age, so it's important to make sure you know the signs and symptoms. Dogs may start scratching excessively, whereas cats may start licking their belly, back, or behind their legs more than usual.
The most common skin allergy is called atopic dermatitis, and although it's a lifelong condition, it can be controlled and managed, meaning your pet can lead a normal and healthy life. Treatments may include medication, supplements, or even newer monoclonal antibody treatments.
Read more about atopic dermatitis and how your vet can help here: https://www.medivetgroup.com/pet-care/pet-advice/skin-allergies-atopy/
The law is changing - from 10 June 2024, cats in England must be microchipped and registered on a database by the time they’re 20 weeks old. The penalty for not microchipping your cat could be a £500 fine. A microchipped cat has a much higher chance of being reunited - please microchip your cat. We're offering a 25% discount of microchipping until the end of June. Book an appointment today. https://www.medivetgroup.com/vet-practices/
What better way to participate this year’s than to spend some time with your pets?
This year’s theme, Movement: moving for our mental health, encourages people to move in a way that suits them. Whether you’re taking your dog for a walk or playing games with your cat, being physically active is great for our minds and bodies. It's also a great way to bond with your pet.
Increased physical activity is not the only mental health benefit of spending time with your pet. Read our article on the six other mental health benefits of being a pet owner here: https://www.medivetgroup.com/pet-care/pet-advice/six-ways-pet-ownership-benefits-your-mental-health/
Dogs can pick up kennel cough multiple times throughout their lives, but in most cases, they can recover in a few weeks.
During this time, you should encourage your dog to rest and avoid collar and lead activity as it could put more strain on their respiratory system. You should talk to your vet if your dog’s cough persists, or if you notice any changes in behaviour such as a reduced appetite or less energy.
Our article on kennel cough explains more about the infection, what to look out for, and how to treat it. Read more here: https://bit.ly/44CKnV0
Is your rabbit protected against Myxomatosis? This highly infectious viral disease has a very high mortality rate and can leave your rabbit prone to other infections.
The best way to protect your rabbit is to vaccinate them, especially as there is no cure if your rabbit becomes infected. There's also ways to reduce the risk of your rabbit catching the virus.
You can read more about them, and Myxomatosis, in our advice article here: https://bit.ly/4blrPLu
Whether the sun is out or hiding in the clouds, your pets will want to be out in the garden this spring. Did you know there may be some hidden dangers in your garden that can injure or poison your pet?
Pets can develop allergies to certain plants, pollen, and insects. If you notice any hay-fever like symptoms, such as itchy, watery eyes or sneezing, contact your vet for advice. They can help you identify the causes and ease your pet’s symptoms.

Meet Lola ❤️
Lola recently spent the day with us to be spayed and won everyone over with that adorable little face.
It's safe to say that there was no shortage of cuddles during her stay and we're pleased to report that she's recovering well. ☺️
Spaying can be beneficial for many reasons including:
🔴 removes the risk of pyometra; an nfection in the uterus that can be fatal if not diagnosed and treated quickly enough
🔴 reduction in the risk of mammary cancer
🔴 removes the risk of unwanted pregnancy
🔴 Removes the risk of phantom pregnancy
If you have any questions or want any advice on neutering your pets, please call us and one of the team will be happy to advise
Never. Gets. Easier.

😻 Toby 😻
We recently had the pleasure of Toby's company when he came in for castration
Castration in cats can be beneficial for many reasons, including:
🔴 lessens the risk of transmitting diseases to other cats
🔴 reduction in unwanted litters
🔴 can help reduce spraying behaviours in the home
🔴 reduces the desire to roam in search of a female which, in turn, reduces the risk of them getting lost or being involved in an RTA
🔴 reduction in hormones can reduce the desire to fight with other cats
Toby is doing well following his procedure and will be able to return to his normal routine soon.

Please don’t give your dogs bones! Also, please don’t believe anyone who says it’s OK to give your dogs antlers either! Please watch Arlo’s video to find out why!
Tess had been perfecting her catching skills before her visit to us this week. Nothing was going to take her laser-like focus off the snacks! 🤣🤣😻
And that’s a wrap! Merry Christmas everyone, we hope you have a lovely (and Vet-free….!) bank holiday weekend. We’ll be back open again from Wednesday, but if you do need any veterinary help over the weekend just ring our normal number and you will automatically be diverted to our Shrewsbury hospital for 24/7 assistance while we’re closed.
⚠️MEDICATION REMINDER⚠️ Just a reminder to let all our clients know this is the last day to order medication for it to arrive before the bank holiday weekend, please call us today if you’ll be running out over the weekend. Here’s a cute video of Ross taken recently where he was very unhappy about being starved for his routine blood tests due to his long term medication.😅 As always our out of hours practice Medivet Shrewsbury will be on hand Sunday and Monday should you require any emergency treatment, otherwise we will be back here to help you Tuesday☀️ We hope you all have a lovely bank holiday weekend💛
Two of some of our most favourite things in practice 1. The sound of purring❤️ 2. A relaxed and content cat❤️ Little Patty here was so relaxed the whole day with us and spent almost her entire stay cuddled up in her hide sleeping & purring and we LOVE to see it❤️
Although Duncan might be able to send anyone to sleep while he drones on…….🥱 When treats were offered and broke through into his dreams, the angelic sleeping Bailey was still instantly ready to spring into action! 😁
When we did some dental work on poor Shylo, it ended up being more of an overhaul than we expected. We knew there were SOME teeth that would need removal, but the 21 that were extracted in the end surprised even us 😣 The examples in the video here quite neatly highlight some of the exact reasons why we never know exactly how bad the dental disease is just by looking in a conscious patient’s mouth, and why a full dental examination needs to be under anaesthetic. Shylo has already made a full recovery and is feeling a lot more comfortable without these problematic teeth as a result. 👍🏻
We know that people always worry about their pets having an anaesthetic. It’s normal! We always talk about the risks of anaesthetics, and gave to get consent forms signed for this reason. What often gets forgotten is actually how LOW those risks are, how rarely we see complications, and just how routine anaesthetics are. If you’ve ever wondered how pets fall asleep for an anaesthetic, this is Lottie having her anaesthetic induction, ready for her Spay surgery that we shared yesterday. All nice and calm and relaxed, just as it should be. 😊👍🏻😴
We will be taking part in the first Antibiotic Amnesty (18-24 November) and this video helps explain why it is so important. We’ve all dealt with COVID, we’re all looking at Russia/Ukraine to see what happens next, and everyone is feeling the pinch of inflation and cost of living. Let’s not have a new superbug on the doorstep that we could have prevented! 🤯
🔊 volume up for the purriest kitten! Gorgeous little Elvis spent the day with us recently for his castration and microchip 😺 Judging on that purr, nobody told him why he was spending the day with us 😹 Thankfully we were forgiven pretty quickly and he returned to his cuddly self on recovery 🥰 Isn't he just so handsome? 😻
