🐾 ❤️‍🩹 Poorly Pommie ❤️‍🩹

Headed back to the vets today as Pommie has still not been herself with a very sore tummy. They ran some bloods again and Pommie has pancreatitis 😞

She has been admitted for fluids and IV meds for the next few days and she is in very safe hands with our lovely vets.

The house feels so quiet without her and we can’t wait to have our little crazy floof back 🥹

Ahh lovely C came in to see us for a dental and is off home with a brilliant bright new smile.

Please don’t forget you should routinely brush your dog’s teeth to keep them nice and clean.

Dental hygiene is very important to overall pet health so if your pet has smelly breath it could be a sign of dental and gum disease.

Untreated this bacteria can have detrimental effects on their health and well being so please give us a call on 01580 763303 and book an appointment to see one of our nurses who can have a look for you.

Poor M was stung by a bee 🐝 and is being very brave ..

It’s always advisable to head straight to the vets especially if the sting is in or around the face, head or throat as this may impair your pets breathing.

In this summer weather bees and wasps can be very sleepy so always keep a look out.

B the lovely terrier was in with us for a dental procedure - please keep an eye on your pets teeth and breath.

If your pet has pungent bad breath and yellow or brown teeth, it isn’t normal and can be sign of dental disease.

This can lead to pain and discomfort when eating, excessive drooling and inflamed gums which can result in an abscess when the bacteria gets under the gum line.

If you have any concerns book in to see one of our nurses who can advise the best treatment and show you how to brush your dogs teeth.

Just a quick reminder that all to have their cats microchipped by June 10th 2024.

Any that aren’t microchipped by the age of 20 weeks will have 21 days to comply otherwise owners may be fined £500. Chief Veterinary Officer Christine Middlemiss said “Microchipping is by far the most effective & quickest way of identifying lost pets.

Those who are microchipped are more than twice as likely to be reunited with their owners”.

We are offering 10% off microchipping and we can microchip your cat here quickly & easily.

If you are unsure as to whether your cat has a microchip please pop in and we will happily “scan” them for you to check & if you are confident that your cat has been microchipped please bring them in so that we can help you confirm all the contact details are correct.

March is so we just wanted to highlight what this can look like as pets can show their anxiety in a number of ways including:
• panting
• over grooming
• inappropriate toiletting
• whining
• destructive behaviour
• shutting down

This anxiety can be triggered by a number of things from:
• travel
• visiting the vets
• loud noises
• hoovering
• new situations
The list goes on .. BUT there are things that can help from making small changes, adding supplements to their diet or in more extreme cases seeing animal behaviourists.

At Heronden we have a range of supplements including Calming Care which is simply added to food or water to help your pet and if they are nervous coming to the vets you are welcome to call us and discuss ‘familiarisation visits’ which will help with their anxiety.

To support this aim for the whole of March/ Pet Anxiety month we are offering 10% off our healthcare supplements.

P is a gorgeous Cocker Spaniel who is in with us to have her ears flushed.

The ear canals are warm, moist and dark so a very easy place for bacteria and yeast to flourish which causes pain and discomfort. Floppy eared breeds of dog are also more prone to ear infections.

Signs to look out for are:
- sensitivity to touch
- shaking the head
- inside the ears may be red
- there may be a strong odour coming from the ear canal which can indicate infection.

If you are at all concerned about your dog’s ears please give us a call on 01580 763303 and book them in so we can have a look.

Lovely B the came in today having just eaten some rat poison☠️

Firstly, if your eats any poison or you think that they may have ingested poison please take them straight to the vet and if possible bring the poison and the packaging with you.

The treatment type will of course depend on the poison type - rat and mouse poisons are the most common along with foods ( raisins, grapes, chocolate etc.) but treatment will also depend on ingestion time and how long ago it was.

After being assessed, treated & monitored the good news is that B successfully brought everything up and went home feeling much better ..

Gorgeous little D is now 11 weeks and has popped in to see us for his vaccinations.

When puppies are first born, they completely rely on the antibodies provided in their mother’s milk.

However, this protection fades over time, meaning they will become vulnerable to catching infectious diseases.

So it’s important that the right vaccinations are given at the right age so that they will help prevent your puppy from developing any of these diseases or infections.

If you have a new puppy or one arriving soon please get in touch and we can get everything scheduled in for you and you will have peace of mind
