🎄 Our top tips for managing your dog's routine this Christmas 🎄
Christmas is a hectic time; work parties, nativities, shopping, visitors, and shorter days might mean that your dog's normal routine may be disrupted and you have less time to dedicate to them. But we have some tips to help your dog cope.
🎁 Stock up on some long lasting chews and enrichment toys. Prep and fill the toys ahead of time so they're ready to go when things get busy.
🎁 Stick to regular mealtimes. If you can't be there, make sure someone in the family can feed the dog at the right time and knows exactly what they are fed.
🎁 Invest in some night time dog walking gear - a bright head torch for you, a light up collar and lead for your dog and some reflective clothing so you can still get them about in the dark. Regular walks are good for both of you!
🎁 Keep some yummy treats in a place where they are easy to grab so when you find yourself with 5 minutes to spare you can have a fun impromptu training session or a find it game - both are excellent brain work outs and highly rewarding for the dog!
🎁 Look ahead in your calendar and arrange now for someone trusted to drop in to your dog if you know they are going to be alone for a long time. Even better, arrange a playdate at their friend's house and be sure to return the favour when their humans are out for the night!
🎁 Find a calming playlist specifically for dogs on YouTube or Spotify so it's ready to be played for those times where your dog may be along.
🎁 If you're having visitors be sure that the dog has somewhere quiet, warm and comfortable where they can retreat to if it all gets too much and be sure to make guests aware to leave the dog alone if they are in that space - that's especially important for children to understand!
