These South American Cichlids are a stunning fish, and very personable.

They can get up to 12" so a 6 foot tank is ideal. Aggressive and very territorial, tank mates are very limited. Research is important. Good filtration is a must as they are very messy.

Peaceful bottom dwellers. Like little hoovers keeping the fine substrate clean. They grow up to 3" and should be in shoals of 6 or more.

Temperature between 22 and 27°c

They breath air so a gap above the water line is important.

Beautiful as a feature fish. These elegant fish are a member of the Cichlid family, so can be a little nippy especially with small fish.

Minimum aquarium size should be no less than 48" with at least 18" hight. They do grow large, so it's a good idea to read up on these before buying.

Omnivours that are quite easy to keep.
