Lovely classes today today. Some hunting in crops and cover for the spaniels with some great flushes and some steadiness followed by some technical retrieves from the HPR’s and the retrievers!

Bob aka has hit 6 months and I’m loving training him and his brother Gonzo aka I didn’t choose to keep two from the litter. It’s hard work and I don’t recommend it. Now progressing their deliveries and tidying it up and building their hold. I love this photo by showing Bob retrieving a 1/2lb endless dummy from I’m very patient with the sizes of dummy that I use with the pups. I build their confidence and make sure they’re consistent and tidy and physically capable before increasing dummy size and weight.

Lovely 3rd week to the puppy class today! Really building on the placeboard and loose lead walking. All the dogs have a brilliant retrieve drive so we are adding that into the mix incorporating lots of different exercises. Also extra special having these puppies in the class. They are all siblings and they are out of Gore

3 great classes today followed by Basics refreshing as we are mid way through the shooting season nearly and it’s important to keep on top of the basics followed up with some dummy launchers marks and distractions for the retrievers.

I often get asked about and their use in dog training and why I use the board from I think there is a big misconception about the placeboards and using them. The biggest thing I hear is ‘I don’t want to drag them out shooting!’ Well guess what…neither do I. You’re using them to target a specific location and to know that it’s a positive place to be. Eventually you eliminate their use, although you can always top up and keep using them once you don’t need them specifically. They’re easy to use and more importantly easy for the dog to understand what you want. I love the fact that they’re not wood so they don’t soak up water, they have independent feet so you can use them on uneven ground and they’re complete stable! Check them out. You can get them from

Cracking day at Rickneys gundog Training Ground in Hertfordshire today where we really pushed the dogs and handlers with plenty of long distance marked retrieves as well as distractions, water retrieves and much more. Everyone upped their game and worked hard
