A couple of weeks ago, we had the very sad and unexpected news that the lovely Bow had passed away. We had the pleasure of looking after her for the last 7 years. Bow had the gentlest nature, always ready for a belly rub or a treat, and if she found the perfect sunny spot for a nap, there was no moving her! 😂
Rest in peace Bow, we will miss you dearly ❤️

☀️ Pupdate: Hot Weather This Week 🌡

Due to the extreme temperatures forecast this week. For your dogs comfort and safety, we strongly advise that dogs only attend daycare if 100% necessary — particularly on Tuesday and Wednesday when it will be its hottest

We’ll be sticking to keeping calm and as cool as possible indoors, with quick toilet breaks — no running around in the heat

If you decide to keep your dog at home, there is no charge for cancellations — their health and safety comes first, just please let us know.

Stay cool, give your dogs an extra cuddle from us 🐾

⚠️ Hot Weather Alert ⚠️

This week we are expected to have some warm sunny days ☀️ Heatstroke is always a risk when the weather is hot

Here are some tips of keeping your pets cool in the hot weather -
✅ Make sure they always have fresh clean drinking water available
✅ Make sure they always have access to a cool shaded area (both indoors and outside)
✅ Exercise them early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid the hottest part of the day
✅ Take water with you on walks
✅ Offer them a paddling pool under supervision
✅ Provide adequate ventilation
✅ Apply an animal friendly sun cream to pale dogs’ noses and ears (Dogs more susceptible to sunburn include Boxers, Dalmatians, Dobermans, French bulldogs, Greyhounds and Weimaraner)

Remember -
❌ Never leave pets in a car or hot room such as a conservatory or caravan on a hot day
❌ Hot pavements can burn paws (If you can’t hold the back of your hand on the pavement for 5 seconds it is too hot for dogs feet)
❌ Do not walk them at the hottest part of the day
❌ Do not leave them out in the sun for a long period of time

Heatstroke is an Emergency and you should contact the vet immediately if you think your pet is suffering from it

With the weather set to be hot this week please spare a thought for your dog!
No dog ever died from not going for a walk but lots do from heatstroke.
This chart gives a guide to help you assess how hot is too hot…..it’s cooler than you think.
Bear in mind our dogs don’t wear shoes, pavements burn as does artificial grass. They also have fur coats and can’t sweat to cool themselves.
Don’t let your dog ‘sunbathe’, they can soon overheat.
Remember black/dark dogs absorb heat more quickly.
Giving them an odd ice cube is ok, but too many will make their internal organs think they are hypothermic (too cold) and the body will try and heat up making them hotter (this is why us drinking cold drinks does not cool us as we think it will).
Dogs can collapse and die very quickly from heatstroke. The best course of action is to dunk as much of their body as possible in cool water. Do not put wet towels on them as they will absorb the heat but very quickly start to heat the body. If you can’t dunk the body, pour cool water over them. Get them to the vet as soon as possible to monitor if they need extra support.
