Whilst it accepted that there may well be some hyped-up information being circulated with regards for the need to achieve net Zero within the next few years, it cannot be disputed that humans have, and continue so to do, damaged the planet with over-doing certain activities.

🧀🐴 How are equine biosecurity practices and Swiss cheese linked?

Recent research from the University of Guelph draws an interesting comparison between equine biosecurity measures and the Swiss Cheese Model.

🔹Researchers use the Swiss Cheese Model as an analogy to explain equine biosecurity, illustrating how multiple layers of biosecurity measures are necessary to effectively prevent disease transmission.

🔹Each slice of Swiss cheese represents a different biosecurity measure, with the holes symbolising the vulnerabilities or gaps in each individual measure.

🔹Just as infectious pathogens can 'pass through the holes in a single slice', relying on one biosecurity practice alone is insufficient.

🔹 Instead, by layering various measures such as vaccination, hygiene practices, and quarantine protocols, horse owners can create a more robust defense against diseases, minimising the risk of outbreaks.

This approach emphasises the need for a comprehensive and proactive strategy in equine health management.
