As we’ve gained so many lovely new followers recently, we thought it was about time we wrote a proper introduction for the page! 🎤

For anyone who doesn't already know us – we are Hannah and Clive 👋, the husband and wife team behind A2B Groomers at Paw Central. 🐾 We are highly skilled and insured, professional dog groomers with a wealth of experience in working with dogs of all breeds, ages and sizes. We welcome new and existing clients to bring your dogs to Paw Central, our Crookham Common base or we can come to you with our A2B Groomers mobile unit. 🚘

We believe in a holistic approach to grooming and take the time to get to know each dog, building long-lasting relationships to ensure they feel happy and confident in our care. 🫶 We assess each dog as an individual, addressing any areas of concern before moving on to the aesthetic aspects of grooming. 🪮 ✂️ Our top priority at every appointment is your dog’s health and well-being first and foremost.

Hannah in particular is highly qualified with over a decade of experience in the professional dog grooming industry. With her advanced certification in canine behavior, she also specialises in working with anxious or reactive dogs. Hannah’s expertise and Clive’s naturally calming influence on every dog ✌️sees us successfully grooming many dogs who had previously been turned away elsewhere.

Hannah also has a background in veterinary nursing 👩‍⚕️ and is a canine first aider so you can be confident that your dogs are in safe hands with us!

🐾 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝗶𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘆, the adorable Poodle puppy who just had his very first grooming session with us! 🐩✨

Sidney had come from a lovely breeder and was super relaxed throughout the process. However, I noticed that he was a bit too calm, almost shutting down, so I focused on helping him stay relaxed but also more engaged. His owner and I agreed that our goal is to encourage him to interact during grooming rather than just sitting still, avoiding the risk of learned helplessness.

With the UK currently experiencing a heatwave 🌞, it's crucial to be aware of the dangers this poses to our furry companions. 🔥 Pavements can get scorching hot, burning your dog's paws, and the risk of heatstroke is 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 real.

𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿, 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗹𝘆.

We want to remind everyone that missing a walk 🐕 won't harm your dog, but the heat could. Opt for early morning or late evening walks when temperatures are cooler and always check the pavement with the back of your hand - if it's too hot for you, it's too hot for them.

When it’s not possible to walk, choose enrichment games ⚽️ to keep your dog entertained instead. Things like lick mats, hiding treats and other training activities at home can be just as stimulating as an outside walk for your dogs.

Let's protect our furry friends from the heat everyone. Keep them cool and hydrated! 🐕🌞

Respecting a reactive dog’s limits ✌️

He can be a bit ‘vocal’ and does ❌ NOT ❌ allow his paws, legs or underbelly to be touched. 😳 So I work 🪮 ✂️ around what he tolerates, while he sings 🎶 to me. 😂 He quite enjoys it these days… although still regularly swears 🤬 at me! 🤭

This was his first groom since January and it’s not the neatest job because he reacts constantly during a session. But it serves its purpose with both the type of groom he receives and the way it’s carried out, putting his welfare firmly before aesthetics.

⚠️ 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗧 ⚠️ 𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱

Hannah is having to unexpectedly take the day off to rest due to a severe migraine that is affecting her vision and leaving her unable to drive the mobile unit today. 😔

She has already been in touch with her morning clients 📲, and a friend will be contacting the afternoon appointments shortly to reschedule on her behalf.

𝗪𝗔𝗧𝗖𝗛 𝗢𝗨𝗧! It’s grass seed 🌱 season!

We’re seeing lots of dogs 🐾 visit us complete with sticky balls and grass seeds in situ at this time of year! ☀️ It can’t be helped but it is important to be vigilant about the risks they can pose to our pooches.

Owners should thoroughly 🔍 check ears, in-between pads and tops of paws where they often hide, removing rogue foliage as you go! 🌿 Left, they can cause your dogs a lot of discomfort, not to mention infection and abscesses or worse, if they travel up inside. 😳

📸 Use fingers to open up the toes from underneath and feel along the inside to check for anything that shouldn’t be there.

🐾 Meet the lovely Chester! 🐾

Hannah has been working with Chester in 1:1 behavioural sessions recently to focus on streamlining his response to nail trimming. 🐶

After 3 week to allow the quick to recede, it was time to trim his nails again to reduce the length even further. Last time, Chester preferred getting his nails done whilst lay down, but this time, he was comfortable standing up and letting me trim his nails with his paw up or on the ground. And the best part? We did it all without any restraint, giving him the choice and control throughout the process. ✔️

It’s really important to listen to each dog. With Chester, I needed to work with him inside his own home as he has such a fear of vehicles. Working in his own environment was more of a challenge for me as I had to find a way to build his work ethic up for brain training games, as well as trust.

Chester has done so well, we're thrilled with his progress and so proud of how far he’s come! 🐶✨ He will now move on to monthly maintenance visits to keep those nails in perfect shape. 🐾❤️

It’s a hard job being this scrumptiously fluffy, but somebody’s gotta do it, ‘eh Yoto? 🥰

We caught up with handsome older gent Yoto 🐾 recently for his regular groom. 🪮 Look at all that fluff that came off his beautiful thick coat! 😧

Yoto 🐕 doesn’t like leaving the house, but that’s no problem when you have an A2B Groomers mobile unit! 🚐

But you don’t ❌ have to be a Shih Tzu x Bichon to get the special treatment here! 🥰 We pride ourselves on going the extra mile for 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 pampered pooch who sits on our grooming table, giving each individual dog the TLC they need during their appointment with us. ❤️ We treat them all like our own, we chat along to them during every groom, constantly reassessing their comfort levels and adjusting as appropriate throughout so that they feel at home with us. 🫶

It’s been SO hot 🥵 this week, that I decided to brave shorts today! 🫣 (Despite my own legs looking in need of a groom!! 😂)

𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 ✋ during this hot weather everyone: no one ever died from missing a walk 🐕 but plenty of dogs suffer from heat stroke, or burnt pads 🐾 from walking on hot pavements.

While our mobile grooming unit is equipped with air conditioning ❄️ , extremely high temperatures can still pose a risk. If it’s too hot to safely groom your pet, we’ll work with you to find an alternative time, including offering early morning or later evening slots when temperatures are cooler. We’ll always communicate any changes with you as soon as possible and work to find a suitable alternative.

We know this may cause some inconvenience, but we appreciate your understanding. Your dog’s health and safety are our top priorities, and we want to ensure they remain comfortable and happy throughout their grooming experience.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 ‘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗲’ 🫣 - 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲, 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝘄𝗲? 😆

Has your pooch ever had to wear one before? An Elizabethan collar is often used around a dog's neck to stop them from chewing, licking, nibbling, or scratching wounds while they heal but I’ve yet to meet a dog who enjoyed wearing one. 🙈�

It’s really important for both your dog’s comfort and the well-being of others, that you let us know ahead of your appointment if your dog has been unwell, injured or received veterinary treatment recently.

𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗳 you don’t feel it’s relevant, just a quick message to let us know so that we can be extra carefull and accomodating during their appointment goes a long way to help your dog. ❤️

We have put the brushes 🪮 and scissors ✂️ down and are taking a short break away to recharge! 🪫

𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 - 𝟭𝟱 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 ⏱️ 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗴, 𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴? 🐕 🐾

You know it’s been a good behavioural session with a dog, when a client sends you a photo like this! 🥰 But it also perfectly demonstrates why these sessions are limited to a MAXIMUM of 40 mins each. ⏱️ Although not as physically demanding, the mental engagement of training sessions is equally exhausting. It’s for this reason that when I’m working with behavioural cases, I make sure we take frequent breaks within a session and closely observer the dogs for any signs that they might be feeling overwhelmed.

I have been working with handsome Great Dane ‘Arthur’ for several weeks now and the change in him after just a few short sessions is incredible! 💖

Grooming for welfare ❤️ over aesthetics 🪞
Before and after 📸 with golden oldie Basil

Sweet Springer spaniel Basil is an older boy who has sadly lost his sight but he copes really well. He likes us to chat away to him during a groom so that he knows what’s happening and loves a good pamper to keep him comfortable. 🪮 ✂️ 🛁

When Basil came to his appointment this week, he had obviously been to the common 🍃 and was full of sticky balls and undergrowth; he must’ve had a great walk!

Is this an ‘insta’ 📸 worthy groom? Nope 👎
We’ll be the first to admit that the ‘styling’ isn’t spot on in this groom. Partly because there were knots that had to be cut out but also because Basil will suddenly move his head when doing his ears (or anywhere really!). So you really have to take your time with him. We also used treats for focused stillness in tricky areas and whilst the groom isn’t ‘insta-ready’, we achieved all that was needed and most importantly, Basil had a really positive experience. 💖

Do you own a 𝐋𝐀𝐑𝐆𝐄𝐑 dog? 🐕

Sadly, mainly through human fear and misunderstanding, there is often a stigma around extra large breeds of dogs 😔 which can lead to their mistreatment. Something ‘Arthur’ 🐶 knows about all too well.

A2B Groomers at Paw Central 🐾 are pleased to work with dogs of all breeds and sizes, treating each one with great care and understanding, according to their individual needs. 🫶 Just like the dogs we work with, we don’t judge.

Meet gorgeous Great Dane, Arthur, who I have had the pleasure of working with recently. 💕 We had such a positive first session and his hooman, Sam, was kind enough to share her experience with us for the page!

“Arthur came to us at 2 1/2 yrs old from a Great Dane rescue charity. He was treated so badly and is people and dog reactive. He is such a lovely and caring chap who finds it so difficult to trust people! He loves a good tickle of his ears, which are so expressive with his parachute ears 🥰 We have always struggled with any attempts at nail care, despite all ideas he has needed to be under anaesthetic to cut his nails so we thought maybe it was time to find an alternative solution. We found the lovely Hannah who explained what would be happening and we were hopeful it would work for him.

I was quite apprehensive for the first session, he gets so scared and anxious, but Hannah was so fabulous that he responded better than we could have hoped! I am so excited to see where this journey takes him! It will not only mean nail trimming for him, I hope it brings so much more than that. 🥰” ~ Sam, Arthur’s owner

At A2B Groomers at Paw Central, we take huge pride in providing the very best care for your pups. 🐕🪮✂️🛁 We love what we do but as those of you who are also self-employed will understand, sometimes the struggle to keep our heads above water whilst we do it, is just so hard. 🥺

Being self-employed means every appointment, every interaction, and every cancellation matters deeply. As well as being our passion, this is our business and to be able to continue to provide the service that we do to you and your beloved pets, we need your help in understanding this.

We book out slots for people who either don’t show up or cancel last minute. These are appointments, that had we known, we could have filled. Yet in the last month, we have lost HUNDREDS of pounds in cancelled appointments. 𝗪𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲𝘀.

We understand that life can be unpredictable, and plans may change at the last minute. That's why we offer flexibility within our cancellation policy:

🐾 Cancellations made with 72 hours or more notice will incur no fee.
🐾 For cancellations made within 48-24 hours’ notice, a fee of 50% of the grooming fee will be applied.
🐾 Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice will incur the full grooming fee.

Please don’t be offended if we have to ask you to pay for your next appointment at the time of booking if you have cancelled three consecutive appointments, it’s not personal. ❤️

This policy isn't meant to penalise anyone but we 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 reinforce it to ensure fairness and sustainability for all parties involved.

We’re moving all our old paper based 📔 systems over to a snazzy online one, which includes a new booking system where clients will be able to select and book their own appointments using the Fresha app.📱

But step 1 before we get ahead of ourselves ✋ is launching our new online client registration forms.

Awww, we really do have the BEST clients! 🥰

I had such a lovely start to my working day 🐾 yesterday when a new client arrived for her dog’s second appointment with me. She told me how grateful she was to have found us and how much her beautiful dog has changed since her last visit!

When we first met, this poor doggy was so uncomfortable with irritated paws and ears. She apparently has been much happier since and I was excited to see how she coped with the grooming process this time - she was totally different! She wasn’t shut down or as touch sensitive. She was engaging and interacting really well with us and the process. 💖

Then owner came to collect and handed me these! 🥹 💐

I have a great deal of experienced in working with dogs who are reactive or have phobias and find it so rewarding helping them through positive reinforcement techniques. 🫶

A2B Groomers ✂️🛁🪮 – the mobile service from Paw Central 🐾

As many of our long-standing clients will know, it’s been quite an ordeal for us since that fateful day when a bin lorry took out our professional grooming trailer! 🙈 Two years on, the insurance claim still hasn’t been settled and we continue to find ourselves at a loss through no-fault of our own. 😩

You may remember that we bought an older van to convert ourselves once we realised we would be off the road for awhile, but sadly old vans come with lots of old problems. 🔧 When that went bang 💥, we didn’t have the funds to fix it and really did find ourselves in a bit of bother! That’s when a fairy godmother 🪄 stepped in and an incredibly kind client gifted us an old touring caravan to enable us to continue our mobile grooming services that were so in demand. 🪮 ✂️

A touring caravan behind a 4 x 4 truck might not be as slick looking as our professional grooming trailer was and we appreciate our mobile service may not quite be what you’re expecting when we first arrive at a new client’s address! 🫣 It also has some extra space 📏 considerations that need to be accommodated for when booking your appointment. With a total length of 13m, we do need to be able to park the same side of the road as your home to allow us to plug 🔌 our extension lead in for power without vehicles running over the cable.

But we just want to reassure new and existing clients, that inside this converted touring caravan your dogs still receive the same top level of professional grooming TLC they always have. 🫶 Here are a few behind-the-scenes photos 📸 of the inside of the caravan below to give you all a better idea of what to expect.

Do you know the best bit about our job, working with dogs? 🐶 The dogs don’t care! 🤷🏻‍♀️ They don’t care that we turn up looking like we’re dragging our house 🏠 behind us, what they care about is how we make them feel and they all respond positively to the calm environment we’ve created inside, putting them at ease for their grooming 🪮 ✂️ or behavioural training sessions. 🥎

If space at your address is a consideration, then we also welcome you to bring your dogs to our Paw Central 🐾 base at Crookham Common where we groom dogs in-house. (Plus - it’s a little bit cheaper too as there’s no mileage fee to pay on top of the grooming price! 😉)
