WBGC was founded in 2008 and is now run and managed by Allan and Sue Hender, breeders and triallers of German Wirehaired Pointers and Cockers. From day one, interest in the club was phenomenal and now regularly attracts 30 or more handlers every month. Handlers range from hard and fast gundog enthusiasts to pet dog owners. Initially most of the club members that came to training had Spaniels and R
etrievers. The club expanded its working side to include Hunt Point and Retrieve breeds (HPRs) when Allan and Sue joined. Both Allan and Sue have many years experience of working dogs successfully in the field as well as in competition. Their knowledge and extensive training skills with not only HPRs, but also Spaniels and Retrievers, took the club to another level from a pet and treat training club to a 'true' gundog club. The club now provides training with purpose and direction. We do not practice 'treat training', our ethos is very much based on praising your dog, praise being a fundamental part of the training process. There is no substitute for bonding with your dog and the earlier you get that bond, by virtue of praising him during training, the quicker you will move through the different stages of your training together. All our trainers are extremely knowledgeable and experienced and can take you and your puppy or dog to whatever level you are able to maintain. Whether your goal is to enjoy an obedient companion, a shooting dog, or to compete, our trainers will help you to achieve this, whilst at the same time having fun with your dog. Please note that West Berkshire Gundog Club is not affiliated to, or has any association with any other regional gundog club. If you would like to benefit from the experience that Allan & Sue have accumulated over their combined years in the field, testing and trialing please contact them directly.
