Well this continued sunshine is a very welcome treat for us hoomans! But it's important to monitor your pets even more than normal during these warmer spells, to ensure that they are hydrated and not overheating. There is lots of advice around when to walk dogs for example (no one would want to walk in the 20c+ midday sun wearing a fur coat with bare feet on black tarmac..!), and we can help with advice for all pets to help keep them comfortable and safe. We also stock a range of cooling items to ensure your four legged friend isn't a *literal* hot dog 🐾

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT - It is National Take Your Dog To Work Day (like we needed an excuse 😍) AND it's National Dachshund Day. Obviously we don't like to do things by halves... Matt and Jason regularly bring their dogs into the office here at the store - they help with barketing, pawblic relations, and cleaning (of snack crumbs), as well as being super cute, cuddly and the best company. Your dogs are also welcome to come and visit - we have treats!

We had a brilliant evening yesterday, hosting our first ever dog first aid course. It was a great opportunity for dog owners to learn vital skills (and also earn a certificate) - lots of laughs as well as brilliant learning and lots of very happy, confident, newly qualified people.

Do you know your legal obligations with regard to collars and tags for dogs? The law (Control of Dogs Order 1992) states that your dog must wear a collar and a tag when in public, and that the tag must have your name and address on (but including your telephone is also a great idea).

We have been asked a few times recently if we can supply tags and the answer is yes! Standard tags are £8.99, large are £10.99 and they can be engraved on both sides (engraving included in the price). We have all the kit in store to ensure your four-legged pal is compliant and can be returned to you easily if they should happen to go missing.

Today is World Parrot Day - an opportunity to educate the public about the unique traits and habitats of parrots, how to care for them at home and also how we can protect them in the wild. Here at Yorkshire Feed & Country Store, we have some absolutely beautiful Green-Cheeked Conures who are super friendly and love nothing more than getting up close and personal!

Anyone considering adding a bird like this to their family is very welcome to ask us for tips, advice and of course to come and visit ours. Kobi, pictured here on Matt's shoulder and Jason's head, will never be for sale because we simply adore him, but he loves being in the shop to meet people, kiss his housemate and show off his stunning colours. We do have others available though, who are looking for their perfect forever home.

It's looking like another warm one this weekend and it's important to keep an extra close eye on pets to ensure their wellbeing. You'll see lots of posts on social media about not walking dogs at certain temperatures and so on, but very little is said about all the other animals we know and love!
