We're sure some of you have noticed by now but we've been using a relatively new product in store recently to give some of our plecs (and other algae eaters) a treat in the form of some fresh veggies!
If you keep plecs yourself and have tried in the past to give them some veg (be it pepper, cucumber or courgette) but have had difficulty weighing it down, the Screwcumber can make that a lot easier. Simply twist your choice of fresh vegetable onto the marine grade stainless steel corkscrew and drop it into the aquarium - once your fish are done, the Screwcumber can be easily retrieved and washed for future use.

We're trying something a little different here at Thornbury - we've put one of the Superfish Scaper Feeding Plates (available in store) in each of our shrimp tanks today to see just how well the shrimp can adapt to feeding out of one of those instead of off of the substrate and quite frankly we think the results speak for themselves!
Check out this quick little video of a variety of the shrimp we have in stock at the moment absolutely chowing down on some of the Gioia Shrimp Food Balls we stock in store and online (you can find them here on our website: https://www.fishkeeper.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/?q=gioia%20shrimp%20food%20nutritional)
The feeding plates are raised off of the bottom of the tank and attached to the glass using a bracket and suction cup - this helps keep the tank a bit tidier and it's much easier to clean any excess food out of them if your shrimp leave any behind!

Feeding doesn't always go according to plan here at Thornbury - we've popped one of our algae wafers in to feed the Cobalt Blue Gobies this morning and while they're certainly tucking into it it seems like the Red Dwarf Rasboras are appreciating the wafer more than them!

Feeding time this morning - check out this clip of our Diamond Tetra (Makunaima pittieri - previously Moenkhausia) going nuts for our Aquacare Pro Colour granules!
Variety in the diet is just as important to the fish in your aquarium as it is to you! Here's some of our Silver Dollars having a bit of a squabble over some Aquacare Spirulina Wafers we've given them.
It may seem like old hat to our more experienced fishkeepers but algae wafers like these can make for really good treats for some of the more herbivorous fish available in the trade - we quite often give some to some of our more boisterous barbs.

Feeding time this morning here at Thornbury and our diamond tetra are wasting absolutely no time in tucking right into the AquaCare Pro Colour food here! Despite being a slightly larger granule food than the Micro Pellet we normally feed them they're chowing down on it quite happily.

Some of our more keen eyed customers will have seen our stock of South American Bumblebee Catfish in store recently swarming all over each other like this while we've been cleaning their tank out.
These catfish are a largely nocturnal species (meaning they're much more active at night) so they appreciate a lot of dark, secluded hiding places to hang out in during the brighter daytime hours. When they're all trying to hide underneath each other like this it can make for a very odd sight in-store!

Watchman Goby
Caught one of our more industrious sand sifters at work today. This one is a Watchman Goby (Amblygobius phalaena) - a species from the Indo-Pacific that will eventually hit 15cm from nose to tail tip!
As with all sand sifters, be a little wary when introducing them to a reef tank - any corals or sessile invertebrates that are situated on the sand bed may well end up being the accidental victims of overzealous sand cleaning.
