⚠PREPARING FOR FIREWORKS - How to prepare your dog on the night.
Here are some tips for helping your dog cope with the fireworks on the night.
🐾 Create a safe space - This could be in their crate with a comfy bed and their favourite toy. You could also use a lick matt or kong toy with their favourite treat/food to keep them occupied. If you don't have a crate, you could leave them alone in a single room with the curtains shut and the radio on.
🐾 Have the TV or radio on loud - You could also play music on Youtube and set a playlist of calming music.
🐾 Walking your dog before it gets dark - Make sure you take your dog our early before it gets dark to avoid them being scared of the fireworks whilst outside. It is also ideal to have them on the lead in case they get spooked by fireworks set of early.
🐾 Give them comfort - Make sure to reassure your dog whilst also giving them space to hide if they want to.
🐾 Ensure your house is secure - Make sure all windows and doors are locked to avoid any dogs escaping.
⚠️HOW TO PREPARE FOR FIREWORKS NIGHT - Medication and pheromone therapy.
PLEASE NOTE - Any repeat medications will require 72 hours for them to be ready. You can order medication online at https://www.rowevetgroup.com/services/click-collect
🐾 Pheromone Therapy - We recommend getting a plug in pheromone diffuser in the room your animal is most likely going to be in during when the fireworks are running. The synthetic pheromone is designed to mimic natural feelings of comfort and safety similar to pheromones expressed by their mother. Ideally, this should be done a few weeks before. For Dogs, we suggest the Adaptil calm and for Cats Feliway Optimum. It would also be worth having the spay to use on their bedding and spraying this 3 hours before dark.
🐰 For rabbits, guinea pigs, birds and rodents, Pet Remedy is a essential oil spray which can be used to help reduce signs of stress and can be used on bedding, carpet and soft furnishings.
🔹 Supplements and Over the counter medications There are some over the counter medications such as the Vetpro Stress and anxiety range which can be prescribed by over the counter and therefore do not need an appointment with the vet. These are uniquely formulated capsules which can be sprinkled onto their food once a day and is effective within 1-2 hours of administration.
💊Prescriptive medications -
Sadly, sometimes our furry friends need a bit more of a sedative to get them through this stressful time which is when we can prescribe medications specifically for them. There are many different drugs which help as an anti-anxiety however you would need an appointment with a vet before these can be prescribed. We would still recommend having a combination of medications and other therapies to help during this time.

🐶Preparing for Fireworks Night - Desensitisation sounds 🐱

The lead up to any celebrative evenings with fireworks can be a very daunting time for many animals and their owners. The loud bangs and flashes often can be very freighting making the animal very stressed and unhappy.
The Kennel club have designed a Spotify playlist which is specific to some of the sounds your animals may hear during these evenings. Here is some advice when using this playlist.
🐾 Firstly, settle your pet in a quiet room perhaps with their favourite toy. Start by playing the firework noises very quietly that you should only just about be able to hear it. Ideally, this wouldn't cause your pet any stress.
🖐 If any of the following signs occur such as panting, licking lips, pacing or pinning their ears back occur, stop the music, move them to another room and do something different. You may have to do this several times.
🐾 When you animal is settled again, play the music quietly and reward them with treats if they continue to be calm. You want your animal to associate the noise of fireworks as something positive.
🐾 Gradually build up the volume and play the sounds just a few minutes at a time and stop if they begin to show the above signs of stress. Ideally this should be done a few times a day, every week leading up to Bonfire Night/New years.
