I always cherish these quite moments with Darling Dog Spas senior dogs, a nice after groom sleepy snuggle. I've groomed beautiful Matia for over 10 years now, she's such a special girl and despite ageing and loosing her sight she is still such a good girl and never complains about anything ( although her owners beg to differ 🤣) When you groom a dog every 6-8 weeks throughout their whole life you become so attached and create a lovely bond. Knowing what the dog your grooming likes and dislikes. Beautiful Benji the Jack Russel is a prime example of this. Being a typical terrier ( my own terrier is the same!) they absolutely hate the hairdryer. When I have the hairdryer on full blow with the nozzle on Benji automatically gets upset and his sole purpose is to attack that hair dryer. Now could I muzzle him and crack on to get the job done quickly? I could.... But I won't ever push a dog into their stress zone, I find a way to get the job done in a manner the dog is comfortable with, even if it takes alot more time and work. So I take the nozzle off the dryer, turn it down and as you can see in the video Benji tolerates it well and we get the job done whilst Benji is comfortable. When I say at Darling Dog Spa it's the dog grooming experience your dog deserves, I truly mean that. After working in a busy salon for 14 years with multiple dogs and groomers, I knew that I wanted to really strip everything back and focus on what I feel each dog deserves and needs. So I created a purpose built dog spa, my dream became a reality! Having only 1 dog in at a time really gives me a chance to get to know your dog, their likes and dislikes, create a bond and literally give them the dog grooming experience they deserve . Now we know dogs would rather be at home than getting groomed so I wanted to make it my mission to try and make each groom as enjoyable as possible. If your dogs are nervous and needs space and quiet time - I've got you. If your dog loves to play - we add play time at the end of the groom.. If they are food orientated - we reward them with treats. Your dog is old - I work around what they are comfortable with. The list goes on, because every single dog is different and I'm here to listen to their needs and preferences. Is it hard? Of course it is! Physically and mentally it can be super tough and it's not as easy as playing with dogs all day but do I love it? Absolutely..I literally wouldn't want to be doing anything else. Some times you've just got to stop grooming, have a cuddle and a dance! Little Billy has some anxiety when it comes to having his feet touched. Sometimes he can get over stimulated. So when I see his ques for this starting I move onto something else to distract him and calm him down. It's such a lovely bonding moment and it's so important to have moments like this.
