A body condition score system is a tool that is used to assess a pet for excess or inadequate body fat. Regular weight monitoring is good practice, but breeds may vary in sizes and shapes, so an ideal weight is not always accurate.
An ideal body condition is a visible waist (from looking above) and a tummy tuck (from the side). Ribs should be easily felt with a small covering.
The ideal score is 5 for cats and 4-5 for dogs. Each condition score over 5 is associated with a body weight increase of 10-15%.
Here is one of our nurses, Claire, doing a body condition consult with our lovely patient, Demelza. ๐ถ

As you may be aware, on Monday 10th June it became a legal requirement for all cats to be microchipped. Owners must ensure their cat is microchipped before they reach the age of 20 weeks with their contact details stored and kept up to date in an approved pet microchipping database.
Here is a video of one of our nurses implanting a microchip into our lovely patient Felix. As you can see he is tolerated it very well! He also enjoyed some treats afterwards, and from the picture you can see exactly how big (or small) the microchip actually is!
If you require an appointment for a microchip, please contact us 01253 858665. Alternatively, you can email us at [email protected] or WhatsApp us on 07449477931..
It doesnโt get much more worrying than your feline friend going missing. The best way to avoid this nightmare is by making sure your cat has a microchip, so if they do get lost, injured or stolen, it increases the chances of you being reunited quickly. Speak to your vet about having your cat microchipped ahead of the new compulsory microchipping law ๐ฑ
It will be compulsory for cats to be microchipped from 10th June 2024, so if you require an appointment, please get in touch ๐
Can anyone identify this creepy crawly that was found hitching a ride on our of our patients?! ๐ท
