Here’s receptionist Lou’s super brave terrier Rebel, who came in to be spayed recently, recovering at home with her snazzy zebra print and an ice pack 🤒
Medical Pet Shirts aren’t just highly fashionable, they’re also a great alternative to traditional buster collars for many dogs and cats post-operatively, so please ask us whether this would be a good option for your pet after their surgery!

Gorgeous Frank and Martha came in to see vet Selina this week for their first Dumbledore visit.
We were all so excited to welcome them, as they have very special pawprints to fill 🐾 🌈
This first check with one of our vets is SO important - it’s not just a chance for a health check and first injections, but also an opportunity to talk about nutrition, early behaviour and training, parasite control options, breed specific neutering advice and for you to ask any other questions that you might have about your new arrival(s)!
If you have lots of questions to ask us about your newest family member it’s really worth jotting these down before your appointment, to make sure that you don’t forget to ask us when you come in 🐝

In Memory of Boomer 🐾

It’s and today, at his mum’s request, we are sharing Boomer’s story with you to raise awareness.
Boomer sadly passed away recently, as a result of blue green algae poisoning. He was a much loved visitor to and he is hugely missed by us all.

Blue/green algae can be extremely dangerous to your dog - this toxic algae can be found in bodies of water such as lakes, ponds and streams, and can cause severe illness or even death if ingested by your dog.

Symptoms of blue/green algae poisoning in dogs can include vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, difficulty breathing, and seizures. If you suspect that your dog has been exposed to blue/green algae, it is crucial to seek immediate veterinary care.

To keep your dog safe, always be cautious around bodies of water where blue/green algae may be present. Keep your dog on a lead, prevent them from drinking or swimming in suspicious water and rinse them off thoroughly after any water activities.

As always, if you have questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us!

Excited to have joined up with our friends Castleman Estate Agents for this fun summer competition! Hoping to see lots of our lovely Dumbledore cats pop up in the entries! 🐈‍⬛ 🐈

** The Castleman Cat Competition **

During our valuations and house visits we get to meet so many brilliant pets and we at Castleman are particularly fond of our feline friends.

We have teamed up with local vets Dumbledore Vets (who are just Purrfect!) for a local competition to crown Verwood’s best cat!

1st prize on offer is £50 cash as well as a free vets consult voucher (worth £40) and a large bag of our HPM life-stage cat food. There are also runner up prizes for 2nd and 3rd place.
We will also be making a donation to the local Cats Protection League for every entry received.

Please send your cat photo (one photo per cat) complete with you and your cats name via any of the methods below.

We all love our cats for different reasons and beauty isn’t skin deep so we are happy to receive any wacky or crazy cat entries as well.

We will collate all entries and put the photos out for public voting throughout July.

Entries close : 30th June

Photos should be sent via:

You might win by a whisker but best of Luck!

It’s World Veterinary Day!
Today we celebrate not just our own vets, but also the wider vet community.
This year’s theme is ‘Veterinarians are essential health workers’ and we’ve been thinking about some of the ways in which our vets fulfil this role here at Dumbledore Vets.
Look out for more posts this coming week about our vets and their roles!

This week we have been talking to lots of clients about the campaign, to raise awareness of any dog who might need extra space when other dogs and people meet them…
Gorgeous three month old Bluebell has a yellow lead to encourage people not to approach and distract her whilst her owners are working on her initial puppy training and socialisation skills.
Winnie, the Labrador, finds meeting other dogs a bit challenging, so her owners use a yellow tag on her lead to alert other owners that it’s really helpful if they can re-call even the most friendly of dogs away from her before the dog has the opportunity to approach her. This helps Winnie to meet other dogs at a comfortable distance for her, which will help to build her confidence more and more as time goes on.
If you have any questions about the Dogs in Yellow campaign, feel free to come in and chat to one of the team!

Puppy appointments are one of our team’s favourite jobs, but they’re also a great opportunity for your puppy to enjoy some further socialisation with the team and for you to ask us any other questions that you might have about your newest arrival.
After some treats from Head Nurse Lorna, even our four legged nurse Senny couldn’t resist popping by to check up on how her newest Setter friend was doing!

🐾 STRAY DOG 🐾
UPDATE - Sadly nobody has come forward regarding ownership of our stray dog as yet.
She looks to be a young adult tri-coloured Caucasian Shepherd, found in St Michael’s Road, Verwood late on Tuesday night - she is unfortunately not microchipped.
She is now safe in emergency foster whilst we continue to try and trace her owners - we are unable to share a photograph as she has some distinguishing markings which we hope her owner will be able to describe to us.
Please share this post and if you know anything about her, please contact us at the practice on 01202 070249.

It’s not just veterinary training that happens here! Keeping our team, our clients and your pets safe is always our top priority, so yesterday the team updated their fire extinguisher safety training.
Here’s receptionist Louise demonstrating her skills to the rest of the team (and our neighbours!)

🐝🌻SPRING ALLERGY CLINICS🌻🐝
Whilst allergies can cause problems all year round spring can be one of the worst times of year for pets due to the increasing pollen count and expanding parasite and insect populations.
Call us on 01202 070249 to book a £30 allergy clinic review with one of our vets before the end of April in preparation for warmer weather and higher pollen counts!
This offer can also be used for pets already on regular allergy medications, such as Apoquel and Cytopoint, who may be approaching their next medication review - please call or e-mail us if you’re not sure when this is next due.
You can also book an allergy clinic with our vets online at https://www.dumbledorevets.co.uk/online-booking

🐝CPD INSIGHT🐝
Here’s our nursing team during a training session with learning how we can further expand the in-house microscopy services that we offer our patients with ear and skin problems.
Being able to perform and interpret these tests quickly on-site means that we can often confirm a diagnosis during your visit and send your pet away with the appropriate treatment, without having to wait for their samples to be couriered to our external laboratory. Even for those patients where further external tests are recommended, these in-house tests can be really helpful to plan initial treatment whilst we await further results.
We love to share what we see with you, so do please ask us if you’d like to see what we find down the microscope!

‼️ IMPORTANT - Please read ‼️

As many people know, cat microchipping will become compulsory from 10th JUNE 2024. Cats need to be chipped before 20 weeks of age for young kittens and ASAP for adult cats (if not done so already!) 🐾

It is also really important that the microchip is UP TO DATE with your most recent address and contact details as if your cat is found with incorrect contact details, you can still be fined. Unfortunately, we see this often with both dogs and cats who are brought in as strays, so it is always worth updating! 🐾

We are more than happy to microchip at the time of neutering - this can be done before 20 weeks of age if your kitten is over 2kg & older cats can be chipped at any time before the deadline 🐾

🐾 Missed appointments 🐾

We all know life gets in the way, and we can never expect what it throws at us sometimes! (Just ask any team member who should’ve finished 2 hours ago… 😂)

If you are going to miss your appointment, please give us a call or quick email to reschedule or cancel 🐾 this will mean that we can give your appointment to someone who needs it.

If you think that you will be late (we ALL know how traffic can be! 😂) give us a call and we can see if we can get you into the next available slot.

As more exciting things come in the new year, and the fact that we have many new clients registering, it is more important than ever to make sure that everyone is seen when they need to be ♥️
A massive THANKYOU for the ongoing patience from our clients when emergencies do unfortunately happen 🐾

Thankyou x
