SNAPPY previously had amnesia infection called Toxoplasmosis.
Toxoplasmosis is an infectious disease caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii. This parasite can infect many warm-blooded animals, including red foxes. 🦠
Even though the toxoplasmosis parasite can be treated; the damage left to the fox’s brain is irreversible. ❤️🩹
This deficit prevents the fox from being able to perceive dangers and/or threats in their surrounding environment.
This negatively impacts their abilities to hunt for prey and it also inhibits their capabilities of keeping themselves safe from predators.
Also, once infected with Toxoplasmosis, the fox is unable to be released as Toxoplasmosis affected foxes need testing regularly as the disease can remain dormant and reactivate silently causing unknown further damage to the fox and their cognitive abilities.
Snappy is tested every six months as a preventative measure. This is in order to try and catch any disease progression at the soonest opportunity.
Snappy is INCREDIBLY friendly. She even purrs when you give her a little stroke. 🐾 ❤️
When Snappy was first admitted, Buddy the resident cat (then kitten), instantly wanted to go and introduce himself 🤎

Mange kills them! It is a very slow and unnecessarily painful experience for a fox to die from organ failure as a result of mange.
I was sent the last image earlier today and I just had to share with you how amazing Barney looks!!
He still is visiting most days and is being supplementally fed small amounts every other day incase he does need a little help still.
His red coat has FINALLY started to come through boldly
and beautifully, just as we hoped in time for winter.
Without Lucie’s help, I don’t doubt Barney wouldn’t have made it to see the winter as he was so very tiny and vulnerable.

🦊🫶 Do you remember Barney? A little blonde coloured cub in cowplain? We supported him and his fox friends, lilo and stitch earlier in the year… Devastatingly we lost both Stitch and Lilo to road traffic accidents shortly after they completed their treatment. They were both collected and buried with love, respect and dignity by our lovely Victoria 🌈 🧡🦊🧡🌈. 🦊 Barney being the only one left but seemingly doing remarkably well, suddenly had another case of mange that seemed to have advanced so quickly! 🦊 🔊 🎥 LUCKY SEEMS TO BE ENJOYING HIS LITTLE LATE NIGHT SNACKS ACCORDING TO ONE OF HIS GUARDIAN ANGELS NIGHT TIME CAMERA 🦊 🥹 We rescued Lucky at the beginning of July as he was very lethargic and fatigued and suffering with a mild case of mange. He was checked at the vets and admitted to Steve. Toxo tests were taken and luckily were negative. As he became better, he became less tolerant of human presence but initially he was so compliant we had to rule out the chance of toxoplasmosis being present. His mange was treated, he was given plenty of rest and rehydration and improved so quickly!! Lucky was returned to the wild at the end of July after a short stay in rehab at Second Chance Fox Rescue and Rehabilitation 😻♥️🦊 He was super reluctant to leave the carrier on release, so as an additional measure we popped a kennel in an unused section of a fox lovers garden for incase re-establishing territory’s for lucky was difficult in any way. We have been regularly checking in on him for updates. It seems he has reunited with his fox dad as he is constantly the shadow of a a very large fox (looks like a dog fox due to size). We had three separate occasions of attacked and deceased cubs in the neighbouring properties - which made us extra concerned about re-releasing him back to his territory.
