We have been informed by KCC that Pembury Rd will be closed between 9.30am and 3pm for the first 3 days of next week - access will be given to residents and our clients only 🐰 🐶 🐱

From Friday 26th April at 6pm to Monday 29th April at 8:30am, our out of hours service will be held at the Eton, Tonbridge branch. Our specialised out of hours team will remain the same and will continue to provide care for your pet with the Tonbridge facilities💙

We are lucky enough to share a database across all branches so all vets will know any extensive history needed to treat your pet.

Please continue to call your normal branch number which will then divert to the out of hours service at 12pm.

This November, for the second year running, the veterinary sector is coming together to run the Antibiotic Amnesty Campaign which encourages pet owners to return out-of-date and unused antibiotics for safe disposal to help tackle the growing issue of anti microbial resistance (AMR), and help prevent environmental pollution through inappropriate disposal.

The spooky season is soon to be upon us, this means we need to be mindful of some of the dangers that can be posed to our pets.

🎃 Sweets, chocolate and raisins - Halloween treats often contain lots of poisonous ingredients for our pets including chocolate, raisins and xylitol (commonly found in mints and chewing gum and is also known as birch sugar)

🎃 People in costumes - This unusual situation may cause stress for your pet as they aren't used to seeing people in masks and elaborate costumes.

🎃 Pumpkins - Candles inside pumpkins can catch a wagging tail or a curious kitten out and cause a burn injury. It's best to opt for a battery powered candle where possible.

🎃 Fireworks - There has been growing popularity around fireworks at Halloween which can be very stressful for pets.

🎃 Decorations - Fake spider webs look scary but cats often like to hunt the spider who has made an appearance in their home and many a puppy has confused a decoration for a chew toy. Ensure your pets are kept away from decorations or get them involved by choosing some halloween themed pet toys or creating a haunted house for your cat from a cardboard box.

It's best to prepare a den for your pet to hide in before halloween and fireworks night. Cats love cardboard boxes in high places that make them feel safe, whereas dogs like a crate or darkened room.

For the benefit of our pets, people and the planet from today new regulations come in from the RCVS regarding prescribing prescription only medications The new guidance requires that a physical examination of the pet has to be performed every time any antibiotics, antifungals, antivirals and antiparasiticides are prescribed. This includes topical preparations such as ear and eye drops, and all prescription flea/worm/tick products. The aim is to reduce the veterinary impact on the wider issues of global antibiotic resistance and decline of insect populations.

This should have little impact on you or your pet for long term prescription medication that is not an antimicrobial/antiparasitic, our usual policy of requiring an examination every 6 months (or every 3 months in some less stable or more serious cases) continues to apply. However please understand that for some repeat medications that include antibiotics we will need to see your pet for an appointment, or a regular check for prescribing flea and worm products.

The full guidance can be found on: https://www.rcvs.org.uk/.../under-care-new-guidance/...
