🐶 Easter Safety Alert for Puppy Parents!

I want to make sure you and your pup have a safe & happy Easter!

Common Easter treats like:
🍫 chocolate
🍇 hot cross buns (raisins)
🍬 sugar-free sweets (xylitol)..can all be toxic to dogs – even in small amounts.

Here’s how to keep your puppy safe:

Keep treats up high & out of reach 🙈

Watch little ones – kids love to share, but puppies can't have these snacks 🚫

Remind guests not to sneak food to your pup (no matter how cute the puppy eyes!)

If your pup gets hold of something they shouldn’t:
🚨 Call your vet
📝 Note what & how much was eaten
📦 Bring the wrapper if you have it – super helpful for the vet

Let’s keep Easter fun – and vet visits only routine!

Happy Easter from me and my pack to yours!

🌿 Stay Safe Outdoors: Tick Bite Prevention Tips! 🌿
Heading outside to enjoy nature? Let's make sure you protect yourself from ticks and the diseases they may carry! Here’s how you can stay safe:

✔️ Cover Up: Wear long sleeves, trousers, and light-colored clothing so ticks are easier to spot.
✔️ Use Repellent: Apply a tick-safe repellent with DEET or permethrin to your skin and clothes.
✔️ Stay on Trails: Avoid brushing against tall grass or shrubs where ticks love to hide.
✔️ Do a Check: After your adventure, inspect yourself, your clothes, and pets for ticks.

✨ A little prevention can go a long way to keeping your outdoor adventures worry-free. Stay safe, stay tick-free! ✨

🐾 Let’s get outdoors responsibly! 🐾

🐶 Is your dog barking a bit too much? Let’s turn down the volume! 🐾🔇

Barking is how our dogs communicate, but sometimes it can get a little too loud/disruptive. If your dog is barking excessively, here are some simple tips to help:

👉 Understand the reason: Is it attention-seeking, fear, excitement, or boredom? Identifying the cause is the first step!

👉 Use the “Quiet” command: Train them to stop barking by rewarding calm behaviour. Consistency pays off!

👉 Keep them busy: Regular exercise, mental games, and puzzle toys can work wonders to reduce unnecessary barking.

Take a look at our Scent Work Course, ideal for that mental stimulation!

👉 Stay calm, consistent & patient: It takes time, but with patience, your dog will learn when it’s time to be quiet.

Remember, it's not about stopping barking entirely, but about managing it! 🎯🐕

What’s your dog’s most common bark trigger? Share with us in the comments! 👇

🐶 Understanding the Canine Ladder of Aggression 🐶

Dogs communicate their discomfort long before they bite. The Canine Ladder of Aggression helps us recognize early warning signs and prevent escalation, if you see any of these subtle/early signs gently remove yourself and your dog from the situation, before they feel the need to escalate.

🚦 Stages to watch for:
✅ Subtle signs: Blinking, Yawning, lip/Nose licking, turning away
⚠️ Escalating signals: Growling, showing teeth, ears back, stiff body, tucked tail
🛑 Final warning: Snapping, biting

Recognizing these cues can help us respond appropriately, ensuring a safe and positive environment for our dogs.

📌 Tip: Never punish a growl! It’s your dog’s way of saying they’re uncomfortable. Instead, find out what’s causing their stress and help them feel safe.

🐾 Calming Signals in Dogs: What Are They and Why They Matter 🐶

Did you know dogs have a unique way of telling us when they’re feeling stressed or uncomfortable? These subtle signals are their way of asking for space or showing they need some reassurance. By recognising these calming signals, we can help advocate for our dogs and help them feel safe and understood. 💙

Here are some common calming signals to look out for:

👅 Licking Lips: Your dog may lick their lips when they’re feeling uneasy or nervous

🐾 Yawning: Dogs don’t just yawn when they’re tired! Yawning can be a calming signal, often seen when they’re in a stressful or overwhelming situation.

👀 Avoiding Eye Contact: When your dog looks away or avoids eye contact, it’s their way of saying they’re feeling anxious or don’t want to engage.

🐕 Turning Their Head or Body Away: If your dog turns their body or head away from a situation or person, it’s a sign they’re trying to de-escalate and avoid conflict.

🌟 Slow Blinking or Soft Eyes: Soft, squinty eyes and slow blinks can signal that your dog is feeling relaxed and comfortable in their environment.

🛋️ Lowering Body Posture: A dog that crouches or lowers their body might be showing submission or trying to defuse a tense situation.

Being aware of these calming signals allows us to step in and support our dogs when they need us the most. It’s a way to build trust and ensure they feel comfortable and safe.

Keep an eye out for our next post discussing the ladder of agression which helps illustrate why understanding these signals is so important!

Taking full advantage of baby having a nap to get Saturdays graduating puppy class goodie bads ready!

Sadly my canvas bags haven't arrived yet, but thankfully I have paper bags from previous events 😁

Each graduate gets a certificate, rosette, some yummy treats, thanks to for the amazing puppy taster packs. I love their food/treats, as does Fergus, he is a sucker for their twisted fish skin jerky, and as he is a poo eater, I love them too and am very grateful to have them as a dental stick!

Oh and can't forget a little bag of human treats and a voucher for a discount off the next course too, as they worked just as hard as the puppies 😊

So proud of this class, they have all done so well!

Anyone who has been in one of my classes will likely have heard me harp on about Scatter Feeding.

Scatter feeding is a method of feeding your dog without using the traditional bowl. You simply 'scatter' the dry food in the house or garden for the dog to search. If you feed wet food/frozen thawed, save your yogurt pots and add a little to the pots and hide these instead.

It's a favourite of mine, especially in the summer when I can slowly scatter a little at a time while I enjoy breakfast outside! So beneficial for dogs, really utilising that natural sniffing instinct!

Getting a natural dopamine hit when they sniff, this method of feeding really helps enstill a level of calm and happiness for your dogs.

I love to do a scatter feed if I have a busy day ahead, keeps my dogs calmer and more settled while I am running round getting bits done!

Have a try yourself and see how you get on! Any questions drop them in the comments below.

While on my maternity leave, I have been working on some exciting things 'behind the scenes'!

Been away for a while as was off having my little baby boy!

Hes now around 5 months old so time has come to start up classes again 😊

I am starting slow with just puppies, fully booked for Jan/Feb, but new courses in March going live soon.

I have a lot of exciting plans for later this year so watch this space!

If there is anything you want us to look into as a course or workshop get in touch 🐶

Sadly I no longer offer agility as it was just too physical for me to manage while pregnant and too tricky logistics wise with the baby, but very happy to recommed a club if anyone is looking for one!

About Us

I am a full member of the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT) as well as being a recognised trainer with Scentwork UK.

I offer training classes for puppies up to adult dogs, including the Scentwork UK level 1 course. Training is beneficial for so many reasons from socialisation to building a bond between you and your dog, to body awareness and helping to keep your dog mentally as well as physically stimulated.

My classes are held on a Tuesday evening in Seale Village Hall and Saturday Mornings in Bentley, near Farnham. I am also hoping to offer midday classes later this year.

I also offer pet care services from dog walking to cat sitting as well as workshops for specific training such as recall, lead work and tricks!
