This is Neville whose caregiver is Nikki who runs the award-winning daycare centre, puppy visiting and dog walking service, ScenterBarks Dog Daycare Centre 🦔
Did you know that any meat-eating animal can benefit from a raw diet? Many people may think these diets are only for cats and dogs, but pets such as ferrets and pygmy hedgehogs can safely consume raw food.
Neville also eats scrambled eggs, cucumber, peppers and strawberries, as well as mealworms. Nikki said: "He is super confident, very clean for a hedgehog and loves exploring. I feed my two dogs a raw diet from Healthy Pet Store, so it was only natural for me that I didn't want to feed my other pets highly processed food. My dogs and Neville are very healthy and happy on a diet of raw meat. It's closer to an African Pygmy hedgehog's natural diet they'd have in the wild. He rushes to his food bowl as soon as he wakes up and he always clear his bowl regardless of the flavour - he loves it!
"Please do your research if you're interested in owning an African Pygmy hedgehog - they aren't always easy pets and require a heated home and regular handling."
Here we are giving a very quick insight into the world of clicker training. This isn’t designed as a tutorial; it’s not the cleanest of sessions and there’s so much more that couldn’t be covered in this briefest of time. If this has piqued interest, there are local trainers who understand and teach caregivers the mechanics of clicker training. Do seek them out if you’re interested in the ultimate hands-off, animal-friendly training method.
We have a great range of colourful clickers – button clickers, profile clickers that prevent accidental clicks, profile clickers with a finger loop, and the handy Clicino ring clicker.
Wolfclip is a very clever quick-release clip invention made to suit all dog harnesses and does away with fiddling and fumbling with trigger hooks. If your dog's harness accommodates a standard dog lead and is a single D-ring harness, using Wolfclip should pose no difficulties!
To attach it to your dog's collar or harness, place the 'u' section over the ring of the harness, then insert the slic pin (provided with your Wolfclip) through the holes in the housing to securely fasten the clip.
Check out this video of Debs for a visual guide on how to attach it 👀
As always during firework season, we encourage pet caregivers to create a safe space or 'den' for their animal.
Debs explains how to do this and why it's so important. In clarification, Debs means feeling safe enough to learn alternative coping mechanisms. Dogs are, of course, learning all the time irrespective of feeling safe or not.

Having a dog willingly stand on scales makes weigh-ins easier. Here's Debs offering some handy tips for weighing your dog. There are many other ways to create this behaviour ~ please let us know what works for you and your dog in the comments!
If you're interested in clicker training, please talk to trainers who understand the mechanics of this type of training to benefit from this powerful learning method.
In learning, it’s normal to use lots of tiny food morsels, and they’re faded out/used intermittently once the dog is proficient.

In the lead up to International Cat Day on the 8th August, we're going to be a shining a spotlight on our loving feline friends - exploring areas such as play, food and enrichment.
Up first, play!
Playtime isn't just a frivolous activity for cats - it's actually essential for their physical and mental well-being.
From chasing feather toys to batting a small ball around, playtime stimulates natural hunting instincts, keeping cats physically active and agile. Plus, it's a great way to burn off excess energy and prevent boredom.
But play isn't just about physical benefits. If set up thoughtfully, it also engages their sharp minds which enhances problem-solving skills and promotes mental stimulation.
Generally, adult cats should engage in play for at least 10-15 minutes a few times a day, while kittens and very active breeds may require more playtime.
Playful paws = happy hearts! Discover our lovely range of behaviourist-approved cat toys (no laser lights here!). Our team can also give some tips about how to tease out a cat's play drive.
