I cannot agree more!
Even more so after having had a dog walk out in front of my van a couple weeks ago because owner had them on one of these… Thankfully I saw the retractable and slowed right down beforehand otherwise, it could have been a very different story 😔

As I hear of another case of a dog losing his life due to extendable leads I really must take the time to write another post to highlight the dangers these leads hold.

I think it's one of those things where we think "oh it won't happen to me and my dog" but trust me, it does happen:

* They happen to be unlocked when the dog lunges into the road after something like a leaf blowing in the wind.
* They get dropped when the dog suddenly pulls to get somewhere then gets chased by the cassette.
* The locking mechanism fails when you need it the most.

I KNOW they're convenient. I honestly know that. I'm not denying they're much easier to use than actual longer lines especially in these wet months. We think we are giving our dog more freedom whilst keeping our hands cleaner.

But when you're using an extendable lead by the road you're not only putting your dog's life at risk but you're potentially going to put other people's lives at risk if a chain accident is caused. I literally cringe driving by dogs on extendables by the road because more often than not they're way up front, or behind on the path and could so easily move into the road suddenly. In fact yesterday Adam and I joked that the dog was still in the next village along, the lead was THAT LONG and RIGHT BY THE ROAD as cars were zooming past. But it wasn't really funny.

I don't say this to be a spoil sport. To be a drama queen. To be a lead snob.

I say this because a dog not only lost his young life, but a family lost their best friend, and another family lost their innocence having accidentally killed someones pet for simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It's devastating all around all because the wrong lead was used. An extendable lead was trusted when it absolutely shouldn't be.

Please, please, please.... short leads by roads only. Please please please 🙏🏻

The sunshine after the rain ☀️ ☔️
We have had a blast this week with games of chase, peanut butter licky time, super scented sniffaris and bottle brain games.

Whilst I’m here I would also like to thank my wonderful customers for being so supportive whilst I’ve not been feeling my best this week! It really is appreciated and I most definitely have the best job 🥰

Wow..what a week and it’s only Wednesday!

Monday they said a months worth of rain in one day…and boy did they deliver! Yesterday, blue skies and cool breeze and today.. showers and clouds?!

Whatever the weather, you can rely on Canine Company to do what’s best for your dog!
Rain does not phase us, or the dogs (except the Basset…he’s not a fan! 😂)
Their furry friends, toys and sniffari sessions are wayyyyy more important than the weather!

Rain or shine, we are here for you and your pups 🐾

Scentsational Seafood Sniffari 🦐🐟
This week the pups have enjoyed a mix of dried shrimp, dried salmon and whitefish kibble to get those nifty noses into gear and exercise those brains…judging by these smiles I think they have enjoyed it!

🦐 Dried shrimp are an excellent source of protein, minerals, omegas, essential fatty acids and vitamins
🍣 Salmon contains omega-3 to support immune system, a good source of protein and promotes healthy skin and coat
🐟 White fish is an easily digestible, lean source of protein, perfect for sensitive tummies

Yesterday the pups tried out their new splash pad!

Perfect for those with little legs, the tray only has a small lip, much easier than clambering into the paddling pool!
Fingers crossed for more good weather so everyone can have a go! ☀️

Super sniffari! ⭐️
We’ve had all of the enrichment toys out to create an even more challenging sniffari for the pups and I think it’s safe to say they have thoroughly enjoyed it, judging by those smiles! 🥰

Fun in the sun ☀️

We do love blue skies and sunshine but…. it can be dangerous for our pups! To stay safe we have enjoyed early starts, calm activities and plenty of water play to keep cool 🐾

When a pups been away for a while and the group welcome them back with open paws 🐾🥰

Just like us humans, dogs miss their friends when they are in a routine of seeing them once, twice, three times a week. It’s always lovely to see their enthusiasm when someone is back from hols or been off poorly 🥰

There are some dogs that really do thrive in the company of their own breed, the “Poo” is one of these!

Cockerpoo, Cavapoo, Golden Doodle, Labradoodle, Jackapoo… and many more, they love nothing more than another “Poo” to play with!

Sweet, loving, friendly and very intelligent, these cheeky pups have great fun at our Group Play sessions!
Their play styles are quite unique, usually involving a lot of chase, spins and “bum bumping” (if you know, you know!)
