R.I.P. Bob ๐Ÿ˜ข
Today we lost our beloved boy Bob, AKA Bobble. Found Bob this morning, very poorly and called the vet immediately. Bob was diagnosed with urinary calculai and could not be saved.

Bob was a fantastic boy, played ball, loved a cuddle, gentle with us and looked after his group.. We will miss him terribly, everyone loved Bob ๐Ÿ’”

Hey this is new! Those tree surgeons that came and took our photos have left us a present. We did pose very nicely for them though!

Fencing contractors arrived on Friday to start the new billy paddock. By Monday fencing was almost up. 4ft high Tornado horse netting with high tensile wire on top is the fencing we use throughout our paddocks. Very strong and means their horns do not get stuck in the wire. Additional gates to go in and we should be finished by Wednesday. Rocky and his boys Teddy, George and Henry will soon have a 50m x 25m paddock to run around in, instead of their temporary area.

Keeping Goats in the UK....... we are often asked about keeping goats as pets, so here are a few pointers to get you started and to ensure you are legal. It isn't like keeping a dog or cat. Once you are past the red tape the FUN begins!

๐Ÿ You must register with the Rural Payments Agency and obtain a CPH number (county parish holding) You will be asked where the goats are being kept and the number will apply to that area. You must do this even if you are only keeping one or two as pets.
This CPH number must be provided before any purchase/sale of goats can be undertaken.

๐Ÿ๐Ÿ You must register with the Animal & Plant Health Agency (APHA) to obtain a herd mark. Every goat has to have 2 ear tags the breeder will do this initially with their own herd number, if your goats lose or damage their tags you will need to have them replaced..... we use Dalton Tags.

๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ŸLivestock Information Service (LIS) when a goat is sold the breeder has to notify the LIS that the animal has been moved off from their holding number (CPH) and onto the buyers CPH number. This can be done online or paper format.

We all love our pygmy goats and like any farm animal it is important to be able to trace their movements so that we can prevent and contain any disease.

I hope this has given you a small insight into how to start on your journey towards being a goat keeper, don't be put off, its well worth all the effort when you get back so much from these fabulous animals, joy, calm, well being, an awful lot of laughs !

Until next time ........xx
