🐾 Building work progress 🐾

A quick update to show you the consulting rooms under construction and what will become the dog waiting area.

A separate cat waiting room will be available to keep our feline friends happy 🐈

🐾 In the last three weeks the building work at our new premises has been progressing very well 🐾

The walls for our cat ward, ultrasound and lab area have been put up which creates a corridor and separate doors to each room. Cat ward will be far enough away from dog ward so that the cats can be cared for in a peaceful environment during their stay with us. Dog ward is taking shape too, the ceilings in most areas are being striped down and rebuilt again according to our plans.

Our reception area and theatres are also underway. Theatre needs to be a sterile environment and easy to clean after each procedure so the beams will need to be covered.

In the same area as theatre will be our new CT scanner which is a very exciting addition to Arthurs Veterinary Specialists 🥳 we are really looking forward to being able to offer this service to our patients when we open next year.

🐾 We have some VERY Exciting News! 🐾

The work has now started on our referral hospital in Nether Heyford and the plan is to be open in Summer 2025 🥳

Currently, some of the internal walls are being taken down to give us the space we need for each clinical area.

We could not be more excited about what is to come and please continue to follow our page for more updates about how the renovations are coming along.

Case: Rex, a 7 year old Chihuahua.

He recently presented to us with severe left hind lameness and was diagnosed with simultaneous cruciate rupture and patellar luxation (dislocating kneecap).

This can be a very difficult condition to treat successfully and requires delicate and accurate surgery.

We have operated on many dogs with this unusual problem;
in fact, Gareth Arthurs is giving a lecture on this uncommon condition this weekend at the European Society of Veterinary Orthopaedics and Traumatology.

Rex had combined TPLO and tibial tuberosity transposition surgery with us 2 months ago.

His surgery went very well and he has recovered without a problem.

⭐️ We are pleased to introduce Chris Seymour, a specialist in veterinary anaesthesia, who helps us deliver gold standard care to our patients.

⭐️ After postgraduate training in anaesthesia at the University of Liverpool, Chris worked in general practice for many years, in Essex and Bedfordshire, before returning to anaesthesia.

⭐️ Since 2006, Chris has worked at the University of Cambridge, Royal Veterinary College, Davies Veterinary Specialists and Hamilton Specialist Referrals, but now works as an occasional locum.

⭐️ Chris's areas of clinical interest include all aspects of perioperative medicine as well as supporting learning of both undergraduates and postgraduates (not only in the UK but across the world).

⭐️ Chris enjoys pottering about in the garden and walking his three Jack Russsell Terriers in the beautiful Shropshire hills.

This is Molly, she is 14.5 years old! We performed bilateral TPLO surgery last year.
As you can agree, she does not look her age and is enjoying being able to get back to her normal exercise…

Becky has been veterinary nursing for 15 years 😃

One of our specialist Orthopaedic surgeons, Gareth Arthurs, travels to Ireland to perform Total Hip Replacements.

Here is an x-ray of a patient he performed staged (two separate surgical events) Total Hip Replacement on.

This is something Arthurs Veterinary Specialists will be offering in the Future.

⭐️Update post⭐️

It’s been wonderful to hear back from Belle’s owners recently.
Belle had pancarpal arthrodesis with us last year.
She has made a great recovery and is now back to running 5 miles with her owner. 😃

This cute puppy is Milo. He was referred to us from a local veterinary practice with a fractured hind leg.
Milo surgery marks our first pro bono case.
As you can see he is recovering really well at home after his surgery.

🎈🎉Coco marks a milestone in AVS history - she is our 500th surgical case 🎉🎈.
Coco came in to see us to have TPLO surgery and we are glad to hear she is recovering very well at home.

This handsome chap is Henry. He had TPLO surgery back in September. As you can see, he has recovered from his surgery and is doing very well. 🙂
