Common Objections & How to Handle Them
1. “That’s a bit pricey.”
You:
Totally get it — it’s a big deal trusting someone with your pet and your money. I price my service to reflect the fact that I’m fully insured, trained, and treat your dog like they’re my own. It’s not just a walk — it’s proper care, safety, and peace of mind.
You could add:
I also do updates and photos, and I always show up — rain or shine! A lot of cheaper walkers aren’t insured or experienced, so you’re not always comparing like for like.
Follow-up if they say "But someone else is cheaper":
That’s fair — and I know it’s tempting. But I’d say just check what they include. I cover all the boring-but-important stuff like insurance, pet first aid, and security — so you don’t have to worry.
Quick reply for texts/calls:
"Totally get it. My rates reflect experience, insurance, and guaranteed care — not just a walk, but someone you can rely on."
2. “I’ve got a friend who can do it.”
You:
I hear that a lot! Friends can be great — but sometimes life gets in the way, or there’s a bit of awkwardness if something goes wrong. With me, it’s all professional, reliable, and no weirdness — just proper pet care with all the right cover.
You could add:
And if your plans change, or your friend gets busy, I’ve got backup cover and flexible scheduling — so you’re never stuck.
Follow-up if they say “I trust them more”:
Of course — it’s about what you’re comfortable with. I’d just say: if you ever need someone a bit more structured and reliable, I’m here. Happy to start with a short trial too.
Quick reply:
"Friends are fab, but I offer structure, reliability, and insurance — no favours needed, just stress-free support.
"
3. “My dog doesn’t like strangers.”
You:
Oh bless them — honestly, I work with lots of shy or nervous dogs, and I always go at their pace. We’d start with a relaxed meet-and-greet, and I never force anything. It’s all very chilled and positive.
You could add:
I use kind, reward-based methods — no harsh handling or rushing. And I’ll always keep you updated on how they’re getting on.
Follow-up if they say "What if they don’t like you?":
That’s okay too! It’s a two-way thing — if it doesn’t feel right for you or your dog, no pressure at all. But I usually find that, with time, even the nervous ones start to enjoy their time with me.
Quick reply:
"No worries — I take it slow, kind, and on your dog’s terms. Happy to do a no-pressure meet first."
4. “I’m not keen on someone coming into my house.”
You:
Totally understandable. I’d feel the same. I’m DBS-checked, fully insured, and I’ve got a few lovely clients who’d be happy to vouch for me if that helps. I treat every home with respect, and I’ve got clear key-handling and access policies so you’re never left wondering.
You could add:
Also happy to log entry/exit times or give a quick “I’m here” message each visit. I want you to feel comfortable, always.
Follow-up if they ask “What if something goes wrong?”
Honestly, it’s rare, but if it ever did — I’m insured, I’d be in touch straight away, and I always keep a record of visits and notes
Quick reply:
"Totally get it. I’m DBS-checked, insured, and respectful of your home. It’s all part of building trust with you."
5. “I don’t think I need it — I walk the dog myself.”
You:
That’s brilliant — I always say owners know their dogs best. I’m not here to replace you — I’m just here for the days when life gets hectic. Whether it’s work, appointments, or just needing a break, I’ve got your back.
You could add:
Even one or two regular walks a week can help give your dog extra stimulation, and you a bit of breathing space.
Follow-up if they ask “Even once a week?”
Absolutely! That alone can help with behaviour, boredom, and gives them something to look forward to. And you get a break without the guilt.
Quick reply:
"I’m just your back-up — here when life gets busy. Even one walk a week can make a difference."
